Harper should be arrested for Treason - Communist China arrested 2 Canadians on false charges and still has them in prison in order to have this deal signed? and Harper caved to that - this is what it has come to? as for the story , not expats or Canadians will have any protection in China at all, there system is not based on Western legal structure and full of corruption, yet they will exploit all the legal loopholes here in Canada and steal our resources from under our noses thanks to this POS Harper.

Alberta's dumbest in Canada voters have election after election voted
for a government that offers some of the lowest royalties in the world,
and rejected Petrocan - Norway's lucrative national oil company Statoil solution because that would be communism. So they elected the Fascist
DerHarpenfuhrer - the Manchurian candidate who promptly gave them a real commie Chinese military state owned Statoil apparently to be staffed
with PRC Army privates sent in as temporary workers - nice.

In today's corporate fascist state, run by corporations managed by corporate attorneys who couldn't change a tire to save their own lives, with $600B in taxpayer donated cash stuffed in Swiss bank accounts and saved for quarterly bonus, the corporate executive/engineer that proposed an $15B investment in a refinery that didn't generate cash flow for 3 years with a 20% Rate of return after that, would most likely be fired instantly.

Where most of the rest of the world has state oil companies that would build the refineries to benefit their country eliminating the price differential, Alberta has the corporate attorney's on its side. The average citizen of Norway with its state oil company Statoil is a millionaire while Alberta with its Chinese State Oil company model is broke - hows that working out fur em?

To bad none of that $600B that the taxpayers borrowed to pay corporate tax subsidy under the Derharpenfuhrer regime was available to build Canadian Statoil refineries - communism again I guess..

I guess the Alberta voter is getting his just deserts.

As Forest Gump said "stupid is as stupid does"

If Harper can pass laws to manage the Hookers and ignore supreme court case decisions, why can he not pass laws to manage the oil patch?
Does Harper know the difference between a Hooker and a Lawyer?

I don't know which part of this thread this fits better so I'll put it here. Stephen Harper grew up in *Toronto. His Dad worked on St. Clair Avenue when Esso's head office was there. As a child of an Employee his College (in Alberta?) would have been paid for by Exxon. The West Wants In Logo was a Reform Gesture to gather votes as no one would have Elected him if he said *Hi I'm Steve and I'm from Toronto, Vote for ME !!!! " would they? I'm surprised, stunned even, that Exxon would let him Lock in Alberta's Resources for *31 Years to China!! while Parliament is on another Holiday of 3-4 a year they get. But time will tell. Clearly he has to be **thrown out and we have to take back our Democracy and replace all the Lackies who get Pensions for life after 2 terms in office and have so damaged our Democracy and affected the futures of our Kids and Grandkids. Hopefully NOW people will get out an Vote these traitors out. Put them on a Wooden Boat and drop them in the Arctic. He's so interested in that, give him a Parachute.

Norway is a country and Alberta is a province. Apples and oranges

Bear_Code • 9 years ago

Why call Alberta a province I call it a shit hole that has no respect for other provinces, I claim that Albertans and the Conservatives as our enemies, Greedy insane people are the lowest form of life on our planet, it's just too bad we can't jail the whole dammed province until they realize they don';t have a right to poison us to death. Screw Alberta

I heard during the election in the USA that some polling booths where set up in Alberta due to the large numbers of American workers.
I would imagine 3/4 of the Alberta population is just passing trough to pickup a pay cheque.
Yes non of that builds a strong caring society!
I agree with you!

annie_fiftyseven • 9 years ago

"non of that builds a strong caring society!"

Sadly, it seems Alberta has become little more than a "fly-attracting carcass." A couple of cities (Calgary and Lethbridge) have been successful with their "fly swatters," having run the frac'ers out of their communities.

Unfortunately though, it appears Calgary residents will soon find themselves downstream from a new "joint venture," and any subsequent contamination. And I would imagine Harper's 31 year "Chinada" agreement will make it a wee bit tough, and really expensive, for Calgarians to do a thing about it.

"Alberta's Stoney Nakoda First Nation says it has signed a 'huge' deal with a Chinese petrochemical company to develop oil and gas on its land.

The First Nation is located 60 kilometres west of Calgary and has signed a joint venture agreement with Hong Kong-based Huatong Petrochemical Holdings Ltd. to explore and develop oil and gas deposits on Stoney Nation lands.

About 49,000 hectares of land will be explored and developed through the agreement, with Huatong providing all necessary funding — possibly hundreds of millions of dollars — and Nakoda Oil & Gas Inc. acting as the primary operator for the joint venture."

http://news.ca.msn.com/cana...

And I can't imagine that's going to make Calgary more attractive to people.

"... A national survey conducted in May by Calgary Economic Development (CED) found perceptions of the industry outside the city are being clouded by pipeline project delays and environmental rulings, negatively influencing people's decisions about whether to move to or do business in the city."

http://news.ca.msn.com/cana...

"I would imagine 3/4 of the Alberta population is just passing trough to pickup a pay cheque."

Yeah, I don't think many people like their families to sleep where they "crap."

"Confessions of an Oil and Gas Worker: I live in Heaven, but I work in Hell…

... You must be asking why I still work there. I am an addict to oil and gas for my vehicles and my wages. I am slowly breaking away and the first step was to remove my family from Alberta to a safe place like New Brunswick. If Oil and Gas are allowed to run amok here like they do in Alberta, we will be moving again."

Yes 30 years to shut down the trade deal.
The Chinese could empty any resource they may own in Canada. Most mining sites are 25 year operations.
But what if you shipped in 100,000 Chinese miners, they could strip the earth clean, and walk away leaving us RAPED, no other way to say it!

Garfield • 9 years ago

If that refinery? or processing plant is 60 km West of Calgary, that is near the Headwater for the Bow and Elbow? plus water that flows to Lethbridge and Medicine Hat then Regina? A spill into that would be a disaster. The PM is not From there, he's From Etobicoke (Toronto) or East Toronto (Dad worked at Esso HQ on St.Clair Ave.). Aside from having an Indexed pension for life (if we don't get someone to Change that), his University was also paid by them (was standard practice for children of employees). 'Course any conflicts of interest would be declared on the 'Reform' documents wouldn't they?

annie_fiftyseven • 9 years ago

I hear what you're saying Bear Code, but jailing all Albertans (many of whom are as pissed off as you) will do nothing to stop the poisoning of water supplies and communities in BC. The greed has spread.

Heavily frac'd Hudson's Hope issues contaminated water advisory:

Sept. 10, 2014 - "A resident, late last week, observed a substance surfacing into the Brenot Creek.

... The District of Hudson’s Hope is advising its residents not to use the water from Lynx Creek and Brenot Creek for drinking water, for livestock watering, and irrigation.

... Boiling water will not make the water potable.

... Abstain from using the water until further notice.

... At this time we cannot comment on the water quality of water wells that are within the proximity of the contaminated site."

All Albertans, no. Just those that support the PC's or Tar Sands or fracking. Put in shipping containers and send to China labelled no return. Then when that concentrated den of stupidity has been dealt with round up the rest of them in Canada and provide follow on shipments.

Please see my earlier post. Reform Party and some others are from Alberta. The PM of Canada is from Toronto. Those are different Apples and Oranges. People seem puzzled by what gets hidden and what seems 'bizarre' . Most of it is from what is Hidden by the Top where they had promised to Reduce the size of Government. Senate is at record levels another site said, and until we throw those all out and Reform it, it's a Drag on our Economy that will last Decades. That* needs Fixing. This Year** would be good. G./

China and its foreign investors aren't interested in laws only interest appears when it is to their benefit. Hong Kong is facing much unrest from its people for it undemocratic ways and for this Harper rewards China. Way to go Harper, a way to go out. Is there honor among thieves?

Ex-Haney Guy • 9 years ago

I've been saying that Harper should be arrested for treason for at least 5 years. Is there not some obscure law that he and his treasonous cabal could be brought right before the Crown and charged? We will be not a crown colony; not of the Queen, but an economic colony. Why are people not giving a shit about this?!

Great idea! In a more realistic vein, is there anything more we can do beyond reading, spreading the word, protesting, writing members of parliament and printing bumper stickers? Voting doesn't seem to help. Maybe we are doomed to wait for the apocalypse.

My federal PC MP is not running next election. Once I pick a party my subdivision has 330 houses, and two adjacent have about 300 each. I can cover those next year (I'm retired) to make sure at least the voters know how they can recover our democracy from the Reform party disguised as a PC party. Some told me (unconfirmed) the PM is waiting for 'the rapture'... Honest, and wants to be at front of the line when Jesus returns. This is our current government. That Fixed Election stuff might also need to be changed. Too much damage is still possible with a fixed period. /

Companies in Canada pocket some $600. billion in profits every year yet do not reinvest in Canada. Just pass a law that 20% of all profits must be reinvested in Canada each year, and bang no need for Chinese cash.
What in Hell ever happen to Crown Corporations? Why doesn't Harper invest in Canada.
The prime rate is all about printing dollars and lending those dollars to Banks who issue Credit Cards at $28.9% even payday loans gets cash at 1% from the Bank of Canada.
How about Bank of Canada Credit Cards at 5% and cancel the Canadian debt in 14 months, our economy would explode with interest of 24.9% knocked off Canadian debt repayments.
Why the Hell are we begging communists for mafia style Investments.
You greedy small minded conservatives are killing Canada.
Proud Canadian HELL NO!

Dina Jones • 9 years ago

No need for Chinese cash. Great ideas, were too busy giving $ M's& B's to USA for a totally useless plane, that the states wished they had stopped backing yrs ago F-35.
For Alta why did we give up phone, gas & power to foreign entities.Deals were made that didn't happen to make it better for us. We have ATB but why don't we have our own everything?
Trudeau brought in private banking as Federal & printing our money.PET was treasonous, sold Canada down road, now Harper.

Dina Jones • 9 years ago

But JP Morgan is our bank of Canada, so to speak. B of C could pay of our 646+ $B debt to JP Morgan % free and get rid of private bank and compound % giving us huge debt never should of had. Only 4 countries are not subject to this centralize banking scheme, all Middle East. Paul Hellyer knew to get rid of NWO in our banking. Trade = control. We should be investing in ourselves and not be subjected to other countries issues.

Not only is FIPA a bad treaty (locked-in, no exit clause, loss of sovereignty to China, etc.) but by secretly ratifying this treaty in Cabinet PM Stephen Harper has abused his power, royal prerogative and our democracy. By shunning the parliamentary tradition of taking treaties like FIPA to parliament for debate PM Harper shows utter contempt and disrespect for our parliamentary democracy and traditions, for First Nations and for Canadians. Stop FIPA.

JLS • 9 years ago

I would stand by any government that said that Harper was not acting in the interest of Canada and therefore the deal as far as Canada is concerned is null and void,

Canada needs to tell international courts it refuses to honor this agreement and refuses to pay any penalty, if countries want to refuse to do business with us, then lets take those consequences over giving in to extortion.

Valentine • 9 years ago

I seem to recall that a PM can't enter into an agreement on behalf of Canada that exceeds his tenure in office. If there is no 'out' clause, I believe that's what he's doing.

Tango1 • 9 years ago

You recall incorrectly.

“Once ratified, the Canada-China Investment Agreement will bind Canada, including future governments, for a minimum of 31 years. Unlike NAFTA, with an exit clause of 6 months’ notice, this agreement, also called a FIPA (Foreign Investor Protection Agreement) cannot be exited for the first 15 years. After 15 years, either country can exit on one year’s notice, but any existing investments are further protected for another 15 years.”

Harper has some serious problems. He knows that his days in power are coming to a disastrous end and wants to do as much ideologically conceived damage as he can by selling off the country to earn a string of directorships that will beat even Mulroney's.

One of the greatest achievements of the so called "Conservative" governments has been the erection of signs around the borders with "CANADA FOR SALE, CHEAP, COME AND GET IT"

The FIPA is also a proof of the brotherhood between communism and capitalism, with the establishment of ruling classes to exploit and destroy, that became a reality with their beautiful, ass kissing relationship in China, using weapons and imaginary money to conquer and enslave the world..

And, would you like your daily cup of empty white rice with or without water?????

China is a communist country in name only. In reality it operates as a state-controlled capitalist economy/society. The wealth and means of production are not collectively owned with all of the people, nor is decision making shared among the people. Please read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik..., particularily the part entitled etymology and terminology

Ed Deak • 9 years ago

I have grown up and lived under fascism, nazism, communism and capitalism, which means I have had enough experience under all of these fraudulent ideologies. The names mean absolutely nothing. They all promise `freedom`` and they all deliver enslavement under a special interest ruling class,

Rackets I have studied through my long life . .

Rocky Racoon • 9 years ago

To bad you didn't have such experience when you were younger. Tell us what do you believe in? Clearly not what is best in human potential. All the social benefits that we have in this country came from working class struggle they didn't fall from the sky or from a benovelent state but from class struggle and it is this very working class that is under attack still the fascist didn't die off nor were they extinguished Ed they just retreated for a while until the next available crisis to rear their ugly heads. That is what we are fighting against that and a pessimism that declare all struggle is futile surrender to your lords and masters you must obey. or it's your neighbor's fault. any rabbit out of the hat will do in a fix.

Ed Deak • 9 years ago

Rocky, the fascists just change their names, alleged ideologies and their methods to enslave people, whether it is with guns, or imaginary money, the results are always the same.

Although I did have so called education and could have had,all kinds of office jobs, or even become rich by painting the portraits of VIPs I have worked all my life as a tradesman.

As far the working class is concerned they have been and are voting BCLib, Reform and for Harper right across BC. When I had my shop in Vancouver, I was the only one who voted CCF and NDP. All my guys were voting Socred etc,, because, according to them, they were the parties who `created wealth and jobs`.

The history of the world is destruction caused by human gullibility and stupidity.

Ed, what is your definition of communism? And where have you lived that you believe was a communist country? Don't fall for the mainstream media's definition of ism's. They are just trying to maintain the status quo. If you repeat a lie enough times, people begin to believe it as true. This is a good place to start researching other ways of organizing society: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Ed Deak • 9 years ago

Every ';ism, ideology and religion in history has always been taken over by gangs of special interests, and used to enslave people, because people want to believe in something and follow the biggest crooks to their own doom. As we can see it in the world today.

I have seen and experienced how nazism, communism and other ideologies have destroyed and mass murdered people , including my own family.

Marx was a jerk who was begging and living off the handouts by his sponsors and friends, sitting in the British Museum, and trying to get into the pants of the wives of his followers, while .his children were starving to death.

Some prophet to follow.

Please check out some of the anarchist schools of thought Ed, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A otherwise there is no hope. I too am very pessimistic about our human future, but until I am not able, I will work toward creating more public awareness of power structures, colonialism, & capitalism (whether state owned capitalism, corporatism, or just the rule of $) . In Canada we desperately need democratic reform, so that our elected members can do what they were elected to do instead of being trained seals for the PMO. We also desperately need *****Proportional Representation****, so that we elect more greens and NDP. If we did have Prop Rep, parties would not be so inclined to try and appeal to every voter and could focus on what their parties really should represent. We wouldn't have phony majorities or wasted votes and you would be able to tell the difference b/w parties.

Ed Deak • 9 years ago

Proportional representation is an excellent idea as it would prevent so called "majorities".like Harper's with 39% of the votes, to become dictatorships.......... as long as they are not tied to any goddamn isms I have studied and had enough of in my lifetime.

I have been a registered voter in BC and Canada since 1956 and always vote, and vote for so called "social democrats" as the least offensive of them all, even if I have to hold my nose some times. .

Totally agree with you :-)

Other than charging Harper with treason or incompetence, neither of which seems likely to happen, what can Canadians do about this? I've already written to Harper and my MP a couple of times, but they just laugh and put my letters on the fire with the rest. "Trade is good at any cost" is their response.

I've already supported the Hupacasath court challenge. What's next?
