The vigil for the two young people killed was tonight. A few minutes before it was scheduled to start, we saw several motorcycles, again, racing westbound on Burnhamthorpe. One flew by riding up on one wheel which is common to see on that stretch of road. I guess they were most likely headed to the vigil!! Has this tragedy taught them nothing? How many more need to die? These riders just keep getting more reckless every year.

This evening (Friday) while waiting for a bus on Kennedy Rd in Scarborough, I saw something that just made my blood boil. While observing the southbound traffic at the stop, I see this guy and his motorcycle literally breakout from between a group of cars going at a high rate of speed. I just stood there, my jaw dropped and I wanted to yell at him, "are you crazy?" It seems despite the deaths of these two people, others are still NOT getting the message to slow down.

Today while driving on the 401 we saw a guy on a motorcycle winding in and out of the traffic and he was wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt. All I could think was if he fell off the bike he would have been badly hurt (if not killed). I don`t get it.

anyone riding without full leather protection deserves any road rash they get ,, I don't care how hot it is out , when I ride full leathers ,, even at a very slow speed the "rash " can de horrendous

Paper_girl • 9 years ago

I'm with you on this one. I couldn't imagine riding without full protection. Guess it's a personal decision they need to live with when things go wrong.

Rocky Hetner • 9 years ago

Sad it had to happen. Many people abuse the laws and speed limits. All their families will suffer because of their stupidity.

Ian Phillips • 9 years ago

been riding 10 years and have taken safety courses.
In these courses they state
#1 reason for motorcycle deaths is the rider.
#1 reason rider is at fault is due to loss of control.
#1 and #2 reason for loss of control , excessive speed and alcohol

I knew both these kids who died tragically. I spoke with them almost daily and they were decent, good and responsible. Please, refrain from negative comments that come from supposition about how this happened. Let the police do their job and the families grieve in peace without judgement and ridicule.

Two guys were driving down the road on a motorcycle.

The driver was wearing a leather jacket that didn't have zip and finally he stopped the bike to tell his pillion passenger:

"I can't drive anymore with the wind hitting me in my chest." So he decided to put the jacket on backwards to block the air from hitting him.

They set off again but a mile down the road they took a corner too fast and smashed into a tree.

A farmer that lived nearby was first on the scene.

Shortly afterwards a police car pulled up. Surveying the wreckage, the officer asked the farmer: "Are either of them showing any signs of life?"

The farmer said: "Well, that first one was until I turned his head around the right way."

Maybe he had a speedy death

your mother have any children that lived?

Sane Guy • 9 years ago

NO sympathy for dangerous drivers. He caused the death of a young woman.

some people that operate motorcycles think they are invisible
on the street.
This is a sad story

nphelge • 9 years ago

ACB...........What a stupid statement. I think your full of sht. A biker would never make that asinine comment. Idiot.

OntarioObserver • 9 years ago

I am a former Motor cycle owner and a lot of the bikes we see today on the roads are called doner bikes because of the reckless people that drive them...Unfortunately we have far to many dangerous bike riders out there and the numbers show in the fatalities we have had this year...

Nick • 9 years ago

Unfortunately, far too many bikers show little common sense, safety and manners in traffic. I call them suicycles. Wanted one when I was a teen but my brother X-Rayed crushed skulls from the 401 far too often - thanks brother for caring!

nphelge • 9 years ago

Thanks Nick for your incredible insight. You are very insightful.

cantstandlefties • 9 years ago

This is why they are called donorcycles, sold mine years ago....

nphelge • 9 years ago

Eyewitness on news last night said the driver of the motorcycle tried to overtake cars by going into the bus stop shoulder. Awful waste of life. Lets hope other kids get something from this.

Nick • 9 years ago

A deadly move. I once witnessed a bus doing that of all things - total amazement.

a lot of the time it is the sudden stop that kills

I was driving a car that was east bound when this occurred west bound
within about 5 car lengths in front of us. The wife broke into tears. There
were two bikes traveling in the same direction. The one that made it through
was going at a horrendous clip. I cannot say how fast the bike that hit the car
was going but it looked like it had run into a brick wall.

Seeing the young lady curled up in the gutter is a sight I will never forget.

I feel badly for you and your wife having seen such a horrific scene.

Did you think the two bikes were travelling together?

Condolences to the victims' families, but I wish there was something I could say to you Andrew. You saw something no one ever should. Hug your loved ones a little bit more and stay strong sir.

Are you kidding me??!! Did youjust say that? I've met the young man driving and his zest for life and his love for his bike was amazing! He was always smiling and ready to tell a funny story or lend a helping hand. Mistakes happen as do accidents. Unfortunetly 2 lives were lost and 2 families have forever changed. But you to make such an awful statement about people you have never met or about a situation you do not know about is beyond words. Shame on you!!!

mexxitario • 9 years ago

the original story had a witness saying they were" going at a horrendous clip" nobody's fault bur their own , stand by my previous comment , I ride and have been hit from behind at an intersection , preventable and not my fault ,, stupidity caused this , plain and simple

Guest • 9 years ago
mexxitario • 9 years ago

exactly , the story originally said witness "going at a horrendous clip " stupidity caused this plain and simple

ivhadenoughofphanuff • 9 years ago

so sorry that you and your wife had to witness this i am weeping here myself for you two. the young fellow was foolish enough with his own life, but to put that young girls life at stake too is so totally wrong she had no say in this whatsoever other than to not get on the bike with him. If you had left the house 5 seconds earlier you could have been involved more seriously and both of you could have ended up in the hospital be thankful that fate dealt you a lesser evil and try to find a positive in this. you may become closer to this woman and both of you might find a stronger appreciation for life.As a motorcyclist my self seeing these idiot riders on the road gives all riders a bad name not to mention that they put me and others at risk with their stupid pranks. funny how the other rider who was involved with this has not stepped forward he was if not the root cause of this accident he was at least involved and should be a man and step up and help in the investigation so the families of the victims and all involved can have some closure

take care Andrew99 if it will help please give your wife a warm heartfelt hug for me time heals all wounds

please everyone drive safe i will watch your back and you watch mine

never ever ride faster than your guardian angel can fly

your so right concept but i was not bashing anyone here it is a tough job for sure but there are 2 things here 1st they are trained to do this and yes it is carnage and mentally disturbing but they are trained and have lots of support 2nd they do this because they want to do it helping people is what they love the most about this job ( i have a friend who is a paramedic) she loves her job it can be very rewarding beyond the pay but there have been a few times where she has broke down and been very frustrated at the stupidity of some things. 28 male riders and 2 female passengers have died on bikes this summer not one female rider has died woman are not better riders just have more sense. Speed and stupidity and carelessness kills. 75% of all motorcycle accidents are single vehicle accidents meaning the rider hit something or lost control of the bike they are the result of speed and or booze or not paying attention so 75% of the accidents are preventable rule #1 when riding a bike DO NOT HIT SOMETHING A CAR, A BUS, A TRUCK A GUARDRAIL A TRAIN ANOTHER BIKE.

stay alert,do not speed, stay sober enjoy the ride arrive home alive

doesn't matter who is at fault, when you are on the bike, you lose....

Andrew, I witnessed an collision a few months ago and what I thought I saw at first was radically different to what happened. Realizing a different vehicle was involved than one I thought, their resting places were interchanged and reviewing the dash cam video clarified exactly what happened. First impressions are not always accurate. The police appreciated the video.

I don't know Ross, but looking at the pictures of the car, it looks as though the front of the car took most of the damage. Awful, just awful.
