That says it all. They won't bury Aussies in taxes. Instead they're going to bury them in increased costs.
Tax and "market based mechanism" sure sound different. But think hard about the source of the money and the final destination in both. Obviously you're the source of money in the tax system, and the gov is the destination. But most people aren't going to wade through the obfuscation of a "market based mechanism". Why those carbon-polluting corporations will deal with that. Nope. Those corporations aren't going to pay out of their profits for something they themselves likely think is BS. Any increased cost goes straight to you. So you are once again the source of the money, and the government running the "market based mechanism" is the collector. There's just a middle man in it now, which may increase costs further.
