This is going to be a MAJOR improvement to Foster. Everything about the street today shows that it's is an unloved place whose only value is as a highway for people in Happy Valley and Clackamas to take a shortcut through.

This change will balance the scales, making Foster into a place to be, not just a place to zoom past as fast as possible.

The City of Portland is finally waking up to the fact that it's best asset is the wealth of livable, community-focused neighborhoods. With this change to the street, Foster can finally start to join the ranks as one of them.

And this is why they have no money for road maintenance folks! I'd love to show up a voice my opposition but I have a real job and have to work 9-5

Do they have a clue on how much traffic moves on foster each day ?
They did the same thing on Holgate for bike traffic and the outside lanes are completely underused. For years this side of Southeast has suffered benign neglect except for the stretch of urban renewal that went on around 92nd and foster and now the city council wants to slow down traffic on Foster. There are radars set up in multiple locations on foster and I hardly ever see anyone doing over the posted speed limit. Bike riders already have a choice of east-west bike lanes on Woodstock and Holgate. This is another case of our west side leaders doing their best to screw up the east side.

Commissioner Novick and PBOT director Treat insist they are not waging a war on cars. Do you believe them? "Road Diet" is a snappy way to say "less vehicle lanes, more inconvenience for drivers".

NF • 9 years ago

I'd believe you if PBOT was removing lanes without adding any benefit, but that is not the case. In exchange for 10 ft of asphalt, Portland and the Foster neighborhoods are gaining so many good things.

NO. look at what they have done on division and around 11th and 12th from division to Powell.

PBOT is run by morons...there simply is no other way to interpret this....
