I see leadership in Raila 2017 don't worry you Kenyans

,

Alex • 9 years ago

A tricky assumption based on how most of our politicians mutate. Who knows whether he could have also mutated like most of our then national leaders of second liberation that are now mostly tribal chiefs. Even Moi mutated based on his pre-presidency

Joshua Okoth Agutu • 9 years ago

truly said Koigi after long time of silence , Kenyans should rise up and vote the right pple in ,

Spartan • 9 years ago

All is not lost but our Country is in a very Big Mess, Its sad that wrong seed planted by Jomo has been and will still continue to eat us until something is done, with the only question being when and by who?

Bill • 9 years ago

You need to look at a project called Luo Thrift before making such misguided comments. His followers were easy to be herded but communism and far left ideology had no place in Africa. True Moi had no ideology, left or right, but Jaramogi's far left would not have endeared him to the West and China was not in leadership mix.

namedmesunshine • 9 years ago

Finally, the truth had found its way

maina • 9 years ago

Koigi is simply airing personal thoughts and assumptions which are far from the reality had Oginga been president. Oginga was better at conducting rebellions than being a statesman. That is one major reason Mboya disagreed with him. Not every body who is born a leader. That is why Oginga never became the president.

ok • 9 years ago

great leaders are the ones who sacrifice for others-----their names will for ever be carved in the Rock of our history.

Douglas • 9 years ago

Odinga died when I was 16, so I cannot claim to know much about him. However, I have heard a lot of good things about him, as well as bad things. I can only imagine he was like his son Raila, loved and loathed in equal measure. I think Kenyatta didn't like the way Odinga opposed him from within, Just like Kibaki hated the idea of Raila succeeding him. I think it pays to be royal to your boss, but royalty is a foreign thing to the Odingas.

shillings • 9 years ago

Those that don't learn from mistakes of their past are bound to repeat them. History will have this generation go down as the most unpatriotic, self serving and I feel it all started with the Moi era. The freedom fighters seemed to accomplish so much more working together for the good of the country than is happening today. I would hate to imagine the probability of our success if we were fighting for independence in the current environment.

Boaz WARUKU • 9 years ago

Ndugu Koigi, history is just for reflection, and here you are right, but do you believe it yourself? In Kenya, we learn very little from history. In fact we struggle to make history as the only country that does not learn from history. History to us is pure academic

Rodge • 9 years ago

If Kenyatta hadn't died suddenly, Moi would have never ascended to power. Death inserted a Kalenjin somewhere in the mix. Ruto should know history repeats itself, those who don't learn from it are doomed to be the victims.

Burg20_03 Sulubu • 9 years ago

I dare say that Koigi happens to be one of the few MTK "endangered species," who not only tells it like it is, but whose patriotism and love for our beloved Kenya cannot be second guessed.

Peterg123 • 9 years ago

Thanks goodness Odinga senior, a died-in-the-wool hardline socialist if not a communist, never became Kenya's leader, even for a day, as he once begged. Kenya would be half the country it is today.

The Greatest • 9 years ago

Well written article by Koigi. It's good to see that not everyone is blinded by tribal allegiances. We need more of such

kimaget • 9 years ago

The writer of this article must Have come from a big dream, he is a day dreamer. If Jeramogi was a Nationalist why not the third if not second,He was a loser like his son. Like the father like the Son. That family will never rule Kenya

Spartan • 9 years ago

His son may not rule but you never equate what they have sacrificed for the sake of this Country to any other leader that Kenya has ever had. He was tribal, Corrupt or selfish.

Am surprise you express your hatred on a family that have done Kenya less harm...

namedmesunshine • 9 years ago

See, it I s people like you who don't get the bigger picture. Jaramogi declined the PM position and forced the British to release Jomo from prison. The truth always finds its way out. I am Thankful

semour butts • 9 years ago

Spoken like Herod or Judas in the Bible! Well done! Now sit back and enjoy the fruits of Kanu rule. Leave your doors open, your car unlocked, and your wallet hanging out! Kanu has brought prosperity to all and we are free to live our lives as we please!

maina • 9 years ago

Someone say Amen to that.... Should I get a witness that the Oginga family will never produce a president!

nyotwaro • 9 years ago

Kimaget you are a jealous tribalist full of hate.

shillings • 9 years ago

You need to read the article without the clout of tribal bias. The writer is not injecting father/son relation but more the loyalty, personality and commitments of Kenyatta Sr and Odinga Sr and the qualification between Odinga Sr and Moi. Your generalized reasoning goes to show why some have their thoughts fed while others actually create thoughts.

bundibundi • 9 years ago

You mean you do not know Koigi? But, hatred is the one dividing Kenya...

Burg20_03 Sulubu • 9 years ago

You are clearly obsessed with the agonizingly putrid and tribal emotions! You're totally incapable of intellectually rebutting Koigi's robust reasoning point by point, and instead revert to hate bedecked malarkey!

Diplomat • 9 years ago

Your hatred shows how illiterate, stupid and ignorant you are

The Greatest • 9 years ago

You seem to have so much hate. Calm down. Can you see the future? How do you know they'll never rule? Tyranny of numbers can only work for so long, sooner or later the people get fed up..ask Gaddaffi

reg • 9 years ago

I thought the writer is a respectable national fig. the logic behind this anserwers the rhetoric...But one might wonder why raise this matter, which many will consider
mute now, when Odinga is dead and nothing can change the fact.
Any way their so called baba will note you still exist after he is back.

ShakaZ • 9 years ago

The only reason anybody SHOULD become president is that he/she is duly elected by the people in a free and fair election. Period.

Alfotula • 9 years ago

Like Moi was repeatedly elected?

Moses Njengs • 9 years ago

What about Matiba??

Ndisi. • 9 years ago

Free and Fair Election???????? nuff said.

Diplomat • 9 years ago

Yes,and we've had two presidents who were NEVER elected by Kenyans

Dada Ziko • 9 years ago

Well written. Kenya will be down the drain in 20 years if we do not make some of the necessary changes now!

nguka • 9 years ago

But would they listen. Come 2017, all would be guided by "our son" thought!

Amos Aketch • 9 years ago

Indeed choices have consdequences.

alice • 9 years ago

What is your agenda?? Would have been nice if you came out with this information in 2007 election or 2012 election and said something like "Mt. Kenya has sat together and decided Kura kwa Raila for he is the man that has most qualified as a leader for ALL Kenya at present time instead of filling back to back with people from same place even though the elections had Walakini.
That will be something noble and means you would have rebuilt the trust from the lakeside and all Kenya.
(Just an opinion) It's history already.

alice • 9 years ago

Well said Koigi, we want you to have this comparison with the current leaders, KIbaki or Raila? Uhuru or Kalonzo? We are yet to see Mt Kenya support other qualified candidates from other regions. out of 4 Kenyan presidents they have 3 whose leadership styles are never scrutinized by you and others from your region the way you scrutinized Moi. You leave a lot to be desired the way you tend to talk of Moi. He has forgiven you but you have talked and talked and still talk of the old man even when he has been gone for over 2 decades. let everyone carry their cross. All Kenyans know that Moi had ZERO tolerance for insecurity and he held Kenya peacefully when most of East African countries had insecurity.
If you really are a true Kenyan we would like you to enlighten us on Kibaki rule and now Uhuru. During Moi, Somalians respected Kenya but since Kibaki and now Uhuru regime Kenya is a terror center. Good economy without security is useless. many kenyans have died during Kibaki and Uhuru's time compared to Moi's time.
Good economy with high insecurity, look at the so-call beautiful roads that Chinese have built in Kenya, they have only enhanced movement of AK -47,Grenades and illegal smuggling and abductions.
When you talk about Kenya doing business with China that is really scary, Kenya should do business with the West. China does business with Sudan even though Sudanese are living as refugees and dying each day. We are better with Westerners who even sheltered you during your exile.
I haven't believed that it's you that Koigi of 2002 that was giving beautiful speeches in the West about Kenyan rotten government. You were given that opportunity to help build a better Kenya but Kenya is in bad shape now compared to Moi's. Just wacha mzee apolee vema usimpe blood pressure bwana! We want him to leave 100+ years.
He made his mistakes we forgave him and we should have learned from it to improve our beautiful country, now we should own up to the current rot. Please help Kenyans to hold current leaders accountable for what they have planted. We are tired of your whining over spilled Milk.

Raphael Rukwaro • 9 years ago

In a democratic country leadership isn't conferred, it is won. There is nothing as undemocratic as the elitism proposed here by Koigi, where a certain cabal selects a leader based I suppose on their eclectic ans subjective criterion. Power to the people, and it is their right to select even people Koigi doesn't like or accept. And its "moot" not "mute".

Truthfinder • 9 years ago

Bravo Koigi! Here is a Kenyan Kikuyu who is truly Kenyan, not looking at issues through the prism of ''house of Mumbi''

1GeorgeSam1 • 9 years ago

Nothing can be done to bring Jaramogi back to lead as you argue; Moi became president because the constitution provided for it and if he ran down the country, he may not have been a sole actor; other actors were those who refused to cooperate with him nor to recognise him as the president then.
I expected you could also include in this your eloquence, a line or a short argument on how those currently in power need learn from the Jaramaogi history.

matumbi • 9 years ago

its a pity to see people sit down and cry over the past while the future continue to bitten by poverty ,it does not matter ,what happened what matters is what do answers do we have ,this will be seen in putting the last bitterness apart and joining hands, nobody will come from east or west to build our country ,its our self who have to do it,this cannot be achieved with political mood across the season ,it can be achieved through unity ,the tribal enemity has grown there is a lot of political mistrust ,only God knows when we will be a civilized generation .to forget the past and much forward ,

i love the last words....."death of the national soul"

Adams • 9 years ago

The truth said as it is and should at all times be! It takes bold hearts to say what they hold. But, I for sure would beg Hon. Koigi to kindly send a word of wisdom to the advisers of the 'seat' if not the 'seats' themselves, man can change his stars irrespective of time; we can change our Kenyan face/fate together for the better.

Truthseeker • 9 years ago

Thank you for this truth.

Joe • 9 years ago

Son of Wamwere. Well spoken but you have done when the scourge is with us and cannot change it at the moment. Professor of Politics made sure he supported his senior most students to continue with his mantle of Dictatorship and that is what we have for the next 10Years. Poverty,Road, Ethnicity,Terrorism, Corruption and Poverty will have to stay with us for a long time for all these are all created for the benefits of those in the leadership.

karibu2009 • 9 years ago

Could have, would have, if only, I wish..., what if Kenya was colonised by France or Belgium, what if the settlers succeeded in making Kenya an independent territory with apartheid system, what if the first coup succeeded?, let it go now Koigi, this is where we are and we have to move on.

Ngumo wa Ngugi • 9 years ago

Well said. However, you should have shown a similar attitude when you served as assistant minister in the Kibaki administration when you saw no evil with the excesses of the system.
