Who could have seen this coming?
Everyone.

Jack E Raynbeau • 9 years ago

Including Stevie Wonder.

bootyscratcher • 9 years ago

What if there was another teacher in the stall next to her and was shot accidentally?.....

Utah_101 • 9 years ago

Or the bullet went through a wall and killed a child...

Jack E Raynbeau • 9 years ago

There would be a lawsuit.

RacerX2000 • 9 years ago

Remember when that happened at a Carl's Jr in Utah County a few years back? A gun fell out of this guy's holster as he was pulling-up his pants in the bathroom, hitting the ground and discharging where it blew a hole into the women's restroom where the bullet struck a woman in the ankle.

Another bitter cynic • 9 years ago

It is never an accident with a gun. It's negligence.
It's not the same as accidentally bumping into someone.
It is a person willfully involving themselves and those around them in very deadly behavior.

Seldom_Seen_Smith • 9 years ago

Guns is neat. Guns in schools is neater. Freedom n'stuff.
Now, where did I park my diesel pickup?

aresident2 • 9 years ago

You may have left it a Bundy's ranch.

Mark M • 9 years ago

I saw this coming from a mile away. As soon as you realize that only 1 teacher has a gun, then you know there aren't nearly enough guns in that school, which means something bad is bound to happen.

Song of Iluvatar • 9 years ago

Absolutely nobody that reads the other "news" outlets. If you wanna laugh until you cry, read the comments on this story on their site. It's so hard to laugh with your jaw on the floor, but I managed.

tuffasagong • 9 years ago

I just read some of the comments on KSL, man there are some serious nut jobs over on that site, I liked this comment "The constitution protects our God given right to keep and bare arms. ". God given right huh....

Song of Iluvatar • 9 years ago

Lol! I "bare" my arms every day too. Just don't bear them. My fave, "how can they be seen as a threat if it's a concealed weapon??" You just can't fix stupid.

Who knew God was a gunslinger? :-)

Well done, everyone. Carry on...

Okay, that one's probably over-the-top.

How does shooting yourself in the leg stop Columbine?

utesby5 • 9 years ago

It's the NRA talking point to situations like this.

Guest • 9 years ago
oldergirl • 9 years ago

The Loo no less . . .

Stepfordson • 9 years ago

Pulled the wrong lever...

ChairmanMauzer • 9 years ago

See Columbine + cross fire fatalities = much bigger tragedy.

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

It is highly unlikely it was an accidental discharge (AD). It was more likely a negligent discharge (ND). AD is a firearm or ammunition defect. ND is operator error.

Restrooms make it difficult to take care of business while carrying. It can be done. It is sometimes a challenge though.

Eldickey • 9 years ago

Obviously, restrooms are the problem.

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

Or perhaps we should pin medals on the mass shooters that pull it off without any resistance.

You are suggesting a dead kid is better than a dead perp.

Utah_101 • 9 years ago

Shooting yourself in the leg doesn't save any kids, it just hurts.

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

I'll let you do that. Keep relying the the $15 "Gun Free Zone" signs and wishful thinking. It makes dead kids.

Utnomo • 9 years ago

They aren't allowed in mo churches but yet encouraged in the schools. How many mos have been gunned down lately? By your logic dozens should have kissed it by now.

Utah_101 • 9 years ago

Which kid got saved by putting a bullet in her leg?

Endre Helgerud • 9 years ago

Hey Stagg. You mean that most shootings take place in "gun free zones"? What about homes. They aren't "gun free zones". Ever hear of anyone being shot there? Seems to me that if "gun free zones" are the big attractor of crime and homes aren't "gun free zones" then homes are pretty safe. Right Stagg? Why is it then that 85% of shootings occur in places that allow guns and sometimes encourage guns? Your "logic" against gun free zones smells like the NRA pablum fed to the minority of Americans who own guns. We ain't buying it.

Tom Conoley • 9 years ago

Now you're doubling down on The Stoopid! Does it burn twice as much?

Lifehellevated • 9 years ago

How many kids have been saved by a teacher shooting an attacker?

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

Goggle it yourself. I left a reply with a link to a story. There were many cases. Nobody wants to hear it because of a lib agenda. Media outlets systematically avoid publishing both sides of a story.

uteman10111 • 9 years ago

I did. I found 3 instances where a gun was shown, one by a vice principle and two others by outside individuals. The problem is there is little to no training required to get a CC permit. Cops shoot innocents as much or more than they hit a perp. Just wait until a trigger happy teacher gets going.

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

Your bias exceeds the value of your comment. First, there are 50 state jurisdictions in the United States. Within that there is great variation. Any state that has a concealed pistol permit has training requirements and background checks which exceeds the requirements to purchase a firearm. You are partially right, that may not be adequate training for all concealed carriers. I will admit there were some in my CPL class that would not be reliable under fire without further training. My state has requirements to maintain proficiency and training. I personally take additional training at least once a year. I see the many of the same people in many classes. But, being a gun toter for a very long time, I have high standards.

I have not found any place suggesting placing untrained people with firearms in schools. The reality is many teachers have training and a CPL. Many are veterans and know what it is like to be under fire. Having a uniform training for them would be appropriate. I can't think of anyone more motivated to protect and defend our kids. I would much rather have someone like that than a $15 "Gun Free Zone" sign and wishful thinking as the only protection and defense, which they are not as history has repeatedly been demonstrated.

Yes, cops shoot people. I dispute they shoot more more than perps. It is happening much more with the militarization of police. But, that is a whole separate topic. NYC, in a recent shootout, managed to hit 9 innocent citizens in the process of stopping a perp. But they have had other notoriety of late. When things like that happen, you are looking at poorly trained officers. They should have never become cops to have screwed up that bad.

I have no idea what "trigger happy" is. Particularly among the proposals I have seen. Those without proper training would not be considered to be armed in school.

You seem to be making some assumptions. Among my peers, I know of nobody fitting your stereotype. I am not a cop. I have been out of the military for a very long time. I am not exceptional, nor is everybody as incompetent as you suggest.

Immir • 9 years ago

The problem is the ones wanting to carry guns everywhere are the last ones you want doing so.

oldergirl • 9 years ago

Kind of like Nude Beaches. The most enthusiastic buff bathers are those who shouldn't.

Maritimer1 • 9 years ago

It takes a 4 hour class to get your CPL in Utah. No one can become comfortable, much less proficient in that short amount of time.

Jakob Stagg • 9 years ago

Perhaps in your jurisdiction. Not mine.
