I am surprised that the Federal Government is contemplating calling out 10,000 reserved soldiers to confront these insurgents. Does it mean that all along Nigeria as a country did not have a standing army that can quell internal aggressors not to talk of external aggressors? Something is wrong with our policy makers. It shows that our soldiers were not trained at all. Training is undertaken during peace time and in time of war they are able to deploy their knowledge. Most of our Generals are not better than Boys Scout Leaders

Kalitaaruku • 9 years ago

Pls pls airstrikes, we need bomber jets. Lets stop putting the lives of people's parents at risk by sending them on ground to fight lunatics with superior ammunition. Lets buy drones, missiles, and fighter jets and crush this bastards once and for all

don samuel • 9 years ago

Yes you are very correct GEJ should deploy more bombers jets this what Obama did for ISL Iraq Syria let the logistics be thorough iwith a view to getting these blood tasty BH dogs hide out more bombardment is needed to get these devilish animals out,pls let all Nigerians sound this to the hears GEJ.

Akin • 9 years ago

They have embezzled all the allocations for defence over the years, so the ability to purchase drones, missiles and fighter jets is not there; and they expect the soldiers to fight with their bare hands. We are no longer in the era of 'Baga Banga'. Technology comes to play in modern warfare. I hope our leaders will learn that whatever they take; they will repay back and the prices are cruelly high (Rudyard Kipling). the price of corruption is shame

political_impasse • 9 years ago

We have a government that claims that they have no hands in BH but yet is reluctant in fighting BH.

Did you not read some time ago how IBB and co destroyed the Nigerian military?

visionary. • 9 years ago

Oga, use your brain for once. Ibb left government 1992. Are you saying he destroyed the army in his 6 year reign? Are you saying after 22 years whatever you thought was destroyed couldn't have been fixed? Nigeria had the best troops in West Africa under abacha. What happened after that? Better wake up n stop living in self denial.

Kalu_J_Okafor • 9 years ago

Mr Visionless. If you had any brain, you would know that it is easier to destroy than to build. A house that takes 2 years to bild copuld take just 2 hours to destroy. Keep blaming every other person but yourself. Ogubuaja was retired from the police because he said what we had were pepper soup Generals. Go to the military and see what is happening there. Most of the officers are children, cousins of retired or seving military officers and their close friends. Recruitment is not on merit. It is 'his father is or was', killing the aspirations of good brains, just as it is in the civil service. The brainy children of 'nobodies' have no chance and must remain servitude to dumbs whose parents are 'somebodies' or know somebody.

Daniel Adams • 9 years ago

You don't even know when ibb left nor the number of years he served yet you are bragging

onome4japan • 9 years ago

Thank you , i thought i was only one that observe this .

Sim chukk • 9 years ago

If @Akin thinks the military are not better than boys scout, then he should advise them on how better to be a soldier, or better still enrol . IBB and the northern ex soldiers destroy the military to ensure no soldier challenges his authority as the chief of ex generals , and then use the arms and personel to fight in future. One of the ways he succeeding at that is arming BH.

Suny • 9 years ago

Boko Haram has greatly exposed our military force being only paper tiger. Thank God that we are not fighting external war I wonder what would have happen to Nigeria. They like to lead African nations for peace keeping mission just because of the foreign currency involved for their selfish end.

Dr_Hope • 9 years ago

The whole federal government strategy and public pronouncement about the war against the Boko Haram was at best whitewash. The only language the Boko Haram understands is force. The federal government can neutralize the Boko Haram by eliminating 1000 insurgents and enemy combatants weekly and at that rate the goal of eliminating the Boko Haram will be achieved by 2015. The reality of the matter is that the ragtag Boko Haram active fighters are less than 20,000 and if the incompetent government of Nigeria can target 1,000 Boko Haram weekly, they will be finished before the end 2015. The man that can deploy over 60,000 security men to monitor elections in two states should deploy the same combatants to deal with the Boko Haram. Nigerians must do something about this regime that will rather loot the treasury, use security forces to harass opposition leaders and intellectuals than to wage war against the Boko Haram, the treasury looters, the kidnappers, and the armed robbers.

Kalitaaruku • 9 years ago

The major problem is we keep p,aying d blame game, and politicing the issue, what is there for the president to order bombarder jets and crush these lunatics? But no, when US wanted listing them as a terrorist group, religious fanatics came and said No, now they have grown beyond what we thought. There is no need so,ving these issue diplomatically, lets send missiles to destroy them all

don samuel • 9 years ago

my problem is with GEJ let this man wake from whatever sleep he is sleeping for God sake he is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces,he has all the powers to order full military scale war against BH .

Hope of 9ja • 9 years ago

Sir, tell our national Assembly to approved $1b loan this man is asking for and see if boko haram will not be thing of past. This war cannot be won without spending our resources.
Where are the leaders of tomorrow?
God Bless Nigeria!

ability • 9 years ago

we have not realized that our political leaders do not really care for us but their interest. that is why they can deploy the whole army to win an election but care so little to protecting the purpose.

we have very evil leaders and this is the fact, they don't care about the people, they care about what the can get.
My fear is for the north because the Boko Haram is getting stronger and taking over more land. my fear is more for the innocent Christian who unfortunately live in Islamic area. the Christians have been killed so much for decades and their population has reduced immensely. you will be shocked to know that most northern states use to be predominantly Christians but incessant killing has reduced them over years, with Boko Haram now what is their fate and even the fate of others. because will make their life a misery.
the more we delay the stronger the enemy becomes and stronger they are the more land they take. the North is in danger.

My broda reading nig news makes somene provocing

Somi • 9 years ago

Are they trained for the same purpose? you should know that terrorism is not the same thing as securing elections. They need proper trained military men to fight boko haram and with well up to date ammunition for the battle and not just merely deploying them to borno like they did for the election.

shegun adebisi • 9 years ago

There is no different between boko haram and a true Muslims .is an oxymoron ,
boko haram want an Islamic caliphate state .all Muslims yearn for it and support the idea .boko haram want sharia law in the Northern states all northern Muslims want undiluted sharia laws established including top Islamic clerics and northern elite boko haram hate Christians values ,all Muslims detest christian value and liberalism then how can we deteat BOKO BOKO HARAM .

You are not far from the truth and this brought to mind; as soon as Jonathan went and returns from Jerusalem they are not happen about the visit because of their hatred for .........

Olugbenga Ebenezer • 9 years ago

The real problem is the xtians, we only know how to sit down and pray ONLY.

Ayelala • 9 years ago

There are no Christians in Nigeria .
Most call themselves one but they aren 't.
You see those catholic/Anglican fathers and sister who left the comfort of their own country ,to build schools ,hospitals road etc in the jungle ,those are the Xtian.
There are no Muslims in Nigerian call themselves one but they are not
We are simply Africans.ABEED according to the Arabs .
Dumb and stupid .following foreign religions and creeds like fools.
99% of Nigerian have not and cannot internalise the teachings of these 2 religions. They simply operate like cults .
I have been around the world. .From conferences in china ,shopping trip in Dubai ,marriage ceremony in Lebanon ,IT training in India to pleasure trips in Europe and America.
The infrastructure in non-oil producing Lebanon will shock most Nigerian who think the Lebanese they see in Nigeria are truly hungry( more like people looking for fast wealth.Syria (before the war ) was light years ahead of Nigeria .
You begin to wonder how useless we can get ,how low we can go and how unthinking we can be when ,we cannot even build our own roads. Our road are being built by uneducated Lebanese ,Syrian ,Jordanians ,Indians and co.
The educated ones go to Saudi Arabia ,Iraq ,Iran .kuwait ,Bahrain and co.

Muslims in the house should explain quaran 3:85 "And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers."

FreeThinker • 9 years ago

Quran 2:256 says ....There shall be no compulsion in
[acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the
wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has
grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is
Hearing and Knowing....

The verse you have quoted is just how xtian believe if your not born again, you cant see the kingdom of God..Or if you dont believe in Jesus as your personal lord and Saviour there is no hope for you.

Lanus • 9 years ago

Correct!
But the Muslim community must start preaching the peaceful and tolerance verses of the Quaran to the youth and children and simultaneously condeming any form of hate towards other faiths.
By doing so,extremists wouldn't have members in the future.

Kalitaaruku • 9 years ago

True Lanus,mi think islam needs good evolution, the clerics and scholars need to start teaching tolerance. I recommend that in a country like Nigeria with diverse religions and cultures, strict constitution should be enacted that supercededs and religious doctrine that seeks to indoctrinate or brainwash or incite any follower against anyone else

Kalitaaruku • 9 years ago

I like ur explanation. Unfortuantely we will remain in violence if we keep believeing that our religion is better than that of another person. Let everyone practice what they believe, without threats, as long as no one's right is trampled on

don samuel • 9 years ago

whether xtians or muslims i don't care the most important is your heart with God how many xtians or muslims that have gone to the great beyond have come to tell us that he or she is with God Boko Haram is satanic we should not allow them they are not fighting the course of God.

IKUBABAYEYE OKOIMALE • 9 years ago

ISLAM AND MUSLIMS ARE EVIL, THE GREATEST DISASTER AND CALAMITY TO HUMAN EXISTENSE, you can read what AYF is saying in this publication, if you listen to SULE LAMIDO where he was comparing armed robbery, kindnapping etc in the South to ISLAMIC MADNESS by Boko Haram in a program where himself and Governor Fashola were guest speakers, then you will come to a conclusion that MUSLIMS ARE DANGEROUSLY HEARTLESS AND ETERNALLY WICKED. Even when they are the ones killing Christians and forcefully converting them to Islam, they still want to use the FALSEHOOD UPON WHICH NIGERIA IS BUILD{ eg FALSE NORTHERN POPULATION FIGURES, QUOTA SYSTEM ETC} to populate the retired officers to be recalled so that they can plant more Boko Haram members who are in actual fact Muslims among the officers. I HATE MUSLIMS AND ISLAM WITH ALL THAT IS WITHIN ME, those Christian communities must not wait for anyone, get prepared and it is better to break Nigeria along religious line now when it is not too late.

Okey D.U • 9 years ago

ACF is always watching any move by Federal Government to defeat Boko Haram. They are always ready to frustrate it. What concern ex-militant with old soldiers?

Omotolaaraujo • 9 years ago

#GEJisBokoHaram

Guest • 9 years ago

Jonathan should enter into GENUINE dialogue with Boko haram instead of chasing shadows. It is simply laughable that Jonathan is contemplating to recall retired soldiers to fight Boko haram. Some of these retired soldiers actually left the army more than 30 years ago and could barely walk properly due to old age, poverty or both. A lot of them have forgotten how to handle a gun or how to fire a good shot with the gun.
Also, the idea to recall these retired soldiers is an indictment on our military because it indicates that they cannot face Boko haram.
MILITARY FORCE WILL NEVER DEFEAT BOKO HARAM. FORCE WILL ONLY WORSEN THE SITUATION AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE LAST 5 YEARS.
THE ONLY SOLUTION IS DIALOGUE AND NEGOTIATION WITH BOKO HARAM.

bayo ade • 9 years ago

good move. we need total control of all these places. bh cannot take over. this insurgency will be over in due time.

marc umeh • 9 years ago

Maybe the retired officers should join BOKO HARAM. At least they will be paid , wellfeed and no corrupt "generals' to order them around. They will have modern weapons and they will be on the winning side. The only additional training they will need is the proper way of beheading people.

Dr. Uche Kalu • 9 years ago

Is this British contraption called Nigeria worth fighting and dying for?
But come to think about it,on the 31st of December 2013,Lord Fredrick Lugard's 1914
Amalgamation of the North and Southern Nigeria expired. Therefore the North and

South ought to have become automtically separate entities on January 1st 2014.
Furthermore, the core Islamic North dominated by the Fulani muslim sojourners and their
Hausa mongrels have elected to have a separate Islamic Republic by imposing Sharia-
jurisprudence in their domain.
It becomes simply mind boggling why our so called Authorites have gone out their way

into trying to keep our two incompatibles entities together?Muslims have never lived and
let live. No,never! Not even among their various sects, like Sunnis and Siats.

Both our Police and Armed Forces are compromised.Within their ranks are members

and sympathizer of the Hausa/Fulani /Kanuri Jihadists,so called Boko Haram.
It is therefore an inhuman act to send our Christian Officers and men in uniform on a

suicide mission and a wild goose chase after those barbaric bands of muslim lunatics

who have chosen to die fighting in order to be martyrized.
After over a decade of fighting, the Americans and their Western Allies have failed to
defeat the Al Qaedas and the Talibans. How can our compromised Army hope to defeat
the enemy within their rank? Theirs is a suicide mission indeed.

The Abokis must be given a choice. They must choose between our Secular Republic or
their fucking Islamic one with Sharia.
The ongoing killings and utter destruction of human lives and efforts must be stopped.
Let us go our separate ways like the Eritrians/Ethiopians,Czechoslovakians,the Soviets,
Sudanese and Yugoslavians.Hail Biafra!

APC = PDP =Yeye de smell • 9 years ago

I thought it was 5000 soldiers or was this a joke-500 soldiers? If the FG can deploy over 40,000 armed personnel to Osun state for ordinary election claiming they are protecting the masses. Why can't FG deploy more than 20,000 troops to utterly flush out these miscreants once and for all. I am really surprised.

Chidi Andrew • 9 years ago

Federal Character in a war. Some northern elements will always amuse me.

If we can raise10,000 soldiers of only Yoruba men, or Tiv, or Igbo or Birom or any tribe that can give success pplease so be it. A commanding officer should be in charge of those he trust, not those that will shoot him.

Ihejirika tried it and succeeded against BH and was accused of genocide and they want him crucified for heavy handed way. Give us heavy handed way but solve the problem.

Jeffrey Benard • 9 years ago

The so called Borno Elders should be rounded up and forced into compulsory conscription to defend their land. They should not just be allowed to make careless statements on the war, they should be part of the solution too. They should take a cue from the Maiduguri youths. That is why the NE states need military governors rather civilians at this time.

D.D.Dennis • 9 years ago

Is not news that Nigerian Military is into politices with Boko haram,as a matter of fact most of secret intelligent reports are given to insurgents by the Military in exchange of money.
