Good morning everyone. As you have seen, Joy has had three nice meals this morning. I'll just post a pic of the most recent .. pic

Susan • 10 years ago

I saw that! Yum!

lina/oh • 10 years ago

08:16edt food for Joy; she inhaled that, hehe...

Elizabeth Post • 10 years ago

Another fish at 8;15 gobbled it down.

newfiemom • 10 years ago

Isn't Joy beautiful . . .almost?

We'll sing in the sunshine
We'll laugh every day
We'll sing in the sunshine
And then be on our way

I read there are an est 5,000 paired puffins in the North Atlantic
Joy will be in good company
gonna miss this one!

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

Me, too!

Irishgal • 10 years ago

I don't believe she had any mommy time last night either ...

lina/oh • 10 years ago

Finn &/or Pheobs are outside the burrow most of the time because the cute other birds could harm our little Joy...

What are the puffin predators? What preys on Puffins?

Predators of the Atlantic puffin include people; gulls and skuas including the Great Black-backed Gull, the Great Skua, the Herring Gull amongst others; rats; cats; dogs; and foxes. Puffins are also vulnerable to pollution, fishing nets, declining fish populations, and global warming.

Irishgal • 10 years ago

Really? Well that makes me feel a bit better

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

I think this is the beginning of her fledging......

Irishgal • 10 years ago

I think you're right FlyingFinn .... ugh

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

BTW, Irishgal, what is your beautiful equine friend's name? :)

Irishgal • 10 years ago

aahhh yes, his name is Bailey. I was doing equine yoga with him.

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

Equine yoga? I'll have to look that one up. One of my friends is a horsewoman :) I just did! How beautiful is that?! What a wonderful and unique connection with an animal. Just beautiful :)

lina/oh • 10 years ago

GM all, where did the tiny branches come from, now Joy is re-decorating; she is interrupting her preening, hehe... :<)

Judie • 10 years ago

Good Morning All - a question for today's chat: how long will it be before Joy gets her full adult coloration? Thanks!

amazed • 10 years ago

She is waiting for food, I wonder if she will be fed this a.m.

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

i wonder what all this preening means?

lina/oh • 10 years ago

There are mites & other little things besides the itch to get the fluff-ball look off... :<)

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

Thanks lina!

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

Do you think she knows something we don't want to know? This weekend, maybe?

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

Maybe?

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

Yeah, I do.

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

I think so :( She's getting ready....

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

I picked the 10th at 4 am, but we may not have that long. On the plus side, I think Phoebe & Finn have outdone themselves once again. They should be very proud.

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

We have come to know four exceptional feathered parents...how lucky are we?

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

We are very blessed.

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

I picked the weekend as you may remember.... but who knows....she has her own itinerary ready for the adventure that awaits her :)

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

She fine-tuning that itinerary as we speak.

FlyingFinn • 10 years ago

Indeed :))

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

Finally settled... i think!

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

Joy is preening preening preening! If you don't look for awhile, you come back and it looks like a different bird- most of the fuzz is gone!

Irishgal • 10 years ago

4:26 am ... she must be hungry ...

Tracey2 • 10 years ago

When is she not???

Susan • 10 years ago

When I looked in about 20 min ago Joy was snoozing away. She suddenly awoke and has been grooming like crazy since.

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

She is still going an hour later, Susan!!

JAL 15 • 10 years ago

Is there some reason they couldn't put a camera in another burrow after the Joy is gone? Keenan was talking about eggs not even hatched in his last "chat" so wouldn't it be fun to watch another baby for awhile? Is this horribly heretic and disloyal to Phoeb and Finnnie? I HOPE to be there for the live discussion tomorrow -- but if not, anyone want to ask this? (They SEEM to move the camera in and out and around with ease, butI'm sure there's a good reason why a new cam isn't set up, other than disrespect.)

Debbie Porges-Au • 10 years ago

Maybe post your question in the comments after the blog, in case you are not there?

Irishgal • 10 years ago

Does anyone know when her last feeding was?

ILoveBirds • 10 years ago

The last one I saw posted was at 2:21 PM ET. I haven't seen the parents tonight. When I watched Pal and Hope grow up in previous years, it seemed the feedings became less frequent and tapered off as they got closer to their fledge dates. Hopefully someone (puffan, puffin123 etc.) will have other information to add.

ILoveBirds • 10 years ago

This is Pal from last year near fledge date.
