Dr. Moench:

Please research what effect Japan's nuclear meltdowns may have had on the climate.

Ever since the meltdowns of March 2011, there have been record-breaking heat, storms, droughts, tornadoes, etc. in the U.S.

Here is a plume map showing where the radioactive plume from Japan travelled over the U.S.

Here is a NOAA map showing the radiation in the Pacific Ocean:

It is Krishna who said "I am become death" in the Bhagavad Gita, Ch. 11, verse 32. Krishna's advice is to Arjuna, "Gird up your loins and conquer. Subdue your foes and enjoy the kingdom in prosperity. I have already doomed them. Be My instrument, Arjuna!" Krishna was an Avataric manifestation, God in Human Form, Vishnu personified. In a sense his advice is the same to us today and to all readers of this article. The corporate honchos have lost their souls, destroy them without remorse. The corporate heads now make 350 times the ordinary worker, and the income of the top 1% of households is greater collectively than the income of the lower 60%. And their blindness and hypocrisy (Romney and Phillip Morse in Russia noted) is destroying the earth and civilization. Time to destroy that.

this will get passed for sure. the tables have already turned, and there will be no turning them back. any attempts to do so will be met with extreme prejudice. i think the militarization of our police forces are in preparation for what they know is coming. they are ready for when the people finally wake up. but when they do wake up, it will be too late.

againstcorporaterule • 10 years ago

The delusion that we must "prevent the republicans from winning" without recognizing that the "left" fist represents the same corporate power structure as it's "right" fist, is precisely why the TPP is becoming a reality, and allowing the 1% to fulfill it's plan for world dictatorship.

You'd think that Obama's top-secret TPP, in 2012, would've had Americans practicing zero tolerance for ALL corporate-funded puppets regardless of gender or skin color. But American refusal to recognize that Obama's ugly deeds prove him to be a willing servant of the 1% is the sole reason why the TPP and the 1% plan for world domination are at full speed ahead.

In short, the 1% has Obama supporters to thank for the success of their TPP.

If you want to see how this all comes out, watch "It's a Wonderful Life," and pay particularly close attention to the part where George Bailey visits the world as it would have been without him. We are headed for "Potterville," and there doesn't appear to be any way to halt the slide - not within the system anyway. Don't worry about the next presidential election, it won't matter any more than the last one did.

In my heart of hearts I believe we are fucked. The crash is coming and it will not be pretty. If humanity survives, the fight will be to stop those who caused it from leading the recovery, so a new way of living can be achieved. I do not believe that it will be easy.

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

Take heart. We are the 99%. They are afraid of us. Why do you think they spy on us day and night? Why do they infiltrate our peaceful (and effective) protests? Why do they foment discord based on race, gender, etc. and constantly try to distract us from the fact that the real discord is the 1% versus the 99%?

Because they are afraid of us.

They have good reason to be. With one joint effort, we can bring the entire ride to a complete stop. Peacefully. Without firing a shot.

Global. General. Strike.

1 week and it would be OVAH, but I would recommend 2-3 just to make the point STICK. It's better than guillotines and less ... messy. They can't... really can't survive without us, although they think they can.

But....it would take a concerted effort. This global coalition grows daily, with each new act of unspeakable greed by "them." Have faith.

BI • 10 years ago

I agree wholeheartedly that they are very afraid and yes if the 99% could get together change will happen. The getting together bit is the hard one.

This whole scenario reminds me of the Poem by Yeats The Second Coming, sorry if your not into poetry but I find beautifully adept at describing the madness of our world in a way that can be easily accessed and not horribly verbose with tedious and quite frankly boring information. Enjoy and never mind the religious undertone...it's not bout that at all...

The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;

Surely the Second Coming is at hand.

The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out

When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi

Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,

A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,

Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it

Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again; but now I know

That twenty centuries of stony sleep

Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

Possibly the most apt poem at this time. I feel the "second coming" will be global and more symbolic in that the things Jesus advocated will become heartfelt in the masses. That time is coming...as more and more are impoverished and disenfranchised we all come to realize how in the end, we really do need one another.

DofG • 10 years ago

The thing that most people don't get is that the sickness continues in our system, does so, by our continued faith in it. This is what these historical oligarchs have always known but that the masses fail to realize because we are too easily divided by the illusion of distinctions, and the fear of personal sacrifice.

This is why The Black Agenda Report refers to Obama as "the more effective evil." He is able to pursue these neolib policies with minimal resistance from the Left.

A fair percentage of lefties will support Obama no matter what he does, partly from misguided party loyalty, partly from the inevitable fear of being called racists. Others remain silent--again, either from loyalty to a lost cause or a desire to avoid being smeared.

This might not be so terrible were the Obama Administration not forwarding the Republican agenda to a breathtaking degree--even as Obama continues to say things that sound OK and the Republicans sing endless arias about socialist takeovers, as if they were trying to distract us from what's really going on. The result is that, after five years of confusion, turmoil, and deep, dark secrecy, we find ourselves talking about--not hope or change--but about revolution. I'm so glad I voted for Cynthia Stein.

Of all the dystopian films of the 1970's, who thought the one that would come true would be 'Rollerball' (1975)? I did. So how long before The Corporations tear down the curtain and declare themselves outright rulers, governments be damned?

jimofolym • 10 years ago

whole thing will implode at some point: too little petroleum left, desertification and little water left in temperate zones, starvation and superbugs decimating us. Better start learning how to chip flint into blades and communicate with smoke signals.

This is the Coming of the fourth Riech, (remember, the nazis were the third). Total fascist world domination by the banks and corporations. The imperitive of eliminating the last vestiges of feudalism, the nation state, need not happen this way.

Are we getting what's happening? Will we get it when there are only 2423 humans left on the planet and they are dying off slowly? It's not a matter of the rich getting richer and screwing the rest of us. It's about there not being people anymore.

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

from the Earth's standpoint, that mightn't be a bad thing.

However, I don't believe that humans can be eradicated that simply. Many yes, but life does find a way.

I think you need a refresher course in both American and World history. History you will see, is a cycle. We are in a phase of the cycle through which you haven't yet lived. Perhaps you have no living relatives who lived through the last cycle. Here in the USA, that period was called "The Gilded Age." Throughout history since the creation of the stock market and the first corporation, bubbles, recessions, depressions, are all deliberate creations by monied interests who manipulate the world by rigging the price of stocks, bonds and commodities; who inflate bubbles and then burst them, making out like bandits. The Rothchild family controlled the Great Britain economy from the early 1800s; the fed controls the US economy since 1913, etc. And whoever controls the economy, controls the direction of the world. Politics is theatre; elections are pre-rigged, offering a selection of pre-vetted turds.

It's all there to see in the history. No one person or group of persons can be blamed at this point. This has been going on for centuries.

The hallmark of this "Gilded Age," is that it has gone global. The move to eliminate paid labor is global; the move to impoverish nation after nation by burying them in debt is global; the move to control resources is global.

What is required at this point is a global counter-movement, if the 99% of the human population is to regain control if its destiny.

Judgeforyourself37 • 10 years ago

You must be very young. Go back and read some history, because we are repeating history, and will continue to do so until we begin to learn by history. We are in the Second Gilded Age. It began under Reagan, and has escalated rapidly every since.

It's been a long road to see Truthout come to terms that our government is controlled by new social class that needs to be removed. The same thing as the American revolution. This time it's Transnational class. What coat color are they? Light sky blue?

I'm so curious to see how the new social class will be received when they Introduce their queen Hillary Clinton in the next election.

tibetan cowboy • 10 years ago

I myself cannot envision any way to save the planet anymore, let alone our nation or myself. No more anything soon. We see water disappearing fast, even here in Texas according to an article published yesterday where another 30 towns are expected to run out of water this year due to fracking and associated greedy behaviors. Animals dying off in droves: honeybees to pollinate our plants, polar bears with no ice and dying / drowning. I could list 20 die-offs from memory and that's only the beginning of our self induced cosmic tragedy. I'm 65 and a Buddhist by education, experience and training. Now just where the hell will I be able to reincarnate? I haven't figured out that riddle just yet, nor has my guru. As we walk along, we wonder, in amazement at our self annihilating greed and arrogance. If the native peoples still existed, we would not be facing our own extinction because they recognized that our Great Mother supported our existence. Now that she's being trashed a million ways, this manifestation of consciousness is about to disappear from the universe forever. Pray for salvation by UFO's, or what?

ecosutra • 10 years ago

Do you know about permaculture

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

Gaia will not allow puny humans to destroy her. She is being renewed as we speak. Have faith that the 99% will soon realize what Jesus was talking about and what our native brothers and sisters have always known.

bornfdup • 10 years ago

"Jesus" had "our native brothers and sisters" massacred.

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

No. Jeffrey Amherst did. Jesus had nothing to do with it.

bornfdup • 10 years ago

I might assume then, that you've never heard of the christian doctrine of Manifest Destiny, "A divine destiny under God's direction to accomplish this wonderful task."

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

I wasn't referring to doctrine. I was referring to the actual act of presenting smallpox-infested blankets to the natives. This was conceived by Amherst and approved by his commanders in jolly old England. It was the only way white man could beat the natives.

bornfdup • 10 years ago

"conceived by Amherst and approved by his commanders", and christians all!

JayHaden • 10 years ago

"Pray for salvation by UFO's, or what?" I am instantly reminded of one of the best movies ever made, The Invasion of the The Body Snatchers, a 1956 sci-fi thriller. Many critics thought that film, about alien minds that inhabit human bodies and turn them to their own purposes, was a riff on McCarthyism or Communism. The filmmakers and actors all claimed it was just a good yarn based on a novel by a guy named Finney. The Director, Don Siegel, did say, however, that it was somewhat allegorical but he didn't want to be preachy about it.

What makes it brilliant, in my mind, is what makes a brilliant novel -- a timeless quality and the ability to be topical in any epoch. Body Snatchers, today, could easily be interpreted as a hair-raising warning about corporations. Corporations are owned by people, run by people, and regulated by people, but the minds of those same people have been taken over by some alien force and are no longer human. We could be literal and say that we inadvertently created that monster, the corporation, and unwittingly loosed it on our own world. But, maybe the folks down in Roswell could make up a more artful story about an alien takeover now in process, with a cast of already-captured pod people like President Obama, Timothy Geithner, Larry Summers, conservative corp-symps, malfeasant regulators, The Kochs, Blankfeins, Dimonds, Chamber types, news readers and myriad economists. Those of us that still remain human are being overpowered, wholesale. As in the movie, we have no hope of standing up to the alien invaders.

Eventually, and rather soon I think, we will be running down the highway screaming like Doc Bennell in the movie, "You're next! You're next!," as the corporations' over-sized loads of new pods stream past on their way to the next town. There was no happy ending.

ggetaclue • 10 years ago

Amazingly there was a period where that original ending was excised from the film. Happily, it was replaced about 20 years ago.

Tom Saltsman • 10 years ago

So wonderfully and beautifully said. Even as a Catholic, I worry about reincarnating back into this cesspool myself. So I strengthen my resolve to live holy and avoid that possibility. Life is hard enough now.

Yet the Psalms are riddled with prayers against the malice of evildoers addressed in Moench's great article here. I advise all believers in the Supreme Power to fast and pray those Psalms for deliverance.

Earth is God the Father's Creation entrusted to our Divine Mother Nature. Despite the gift of free will to humankind, neither parent wants their creation or their offspring destroyed.

Heaven will hear our prayer. All is not lost. Hope springs eternal. Let us all continue to "watch and pray" as the prophet Christ commanded.

WeAreMany • 10 years ago

I'm pretty sure that what Christ actually wanted is for us to actively help people and to be good neighbors, to be involved in a positive way, not to stay at home, effectively ignore the problems, and simply hope for the best. Why wait for prayers to be answered when you can take action and actually do something that would help others?

OtherTed • 10 years ago

There are many planes of existence, dimensions, planets, no doubt karma will find you a new place to live. I wouldn't worry about that.

Crystal Starheart • 10 years ago

Don't worry there are many rooms in the mansion of the universe.... we may all wake up after this life incarnated as fleas infesting some dying dog on the other side of the galaxy......

johngary66 • 10 years ago

I guess your not an optimist. LOL.

johngary66 • 10 years ago

Not to worry about reincarnating on this planet. You will have many other choices. Did you really think that among the trillions of stars, ours is the only one with planets orbiting it than can sustain life? Hopefully, we will have learned something here on Mother Earth, and we won't bring our destructive bad habits with us into our next lives. Namaste

hannahstevens • 10 years ago

Oh, great. So we can just continue to trash this planet and then go to another and trash that one too.
