Looks like there are problems with the feed again. I guess they're still working out the bugs.
I really miss the scroll bar. The Beach cam has totally spoiled me into expecting to be able to re-look at everything that happens.
Room service! Shim wants more.
As soon as I say I haven't seen an egg, Shim moves and rearranges an egg. Now I've seen there is an egg.
But apparently only one so far. Normally they have two about 4 days apart.
Do we know for sure there is an egg? I haven't been able to see one yet. Is Shim the mom or dad?
Shim is the male and Whatever is the female. Click on the links in the green box above the Comments to read about them.
Cute stories about each penguin. I am just learning how to use these sites and all the expertise everyone else shares is most appreciated.
Will do--thanks for the info, jngl46.
The JDs were on the Mesa, and Shim almost shoved Whatever out the tunnel to go get rid of them. He knows she is the fierce enforcer in the family.
Maybe he is suggesting she cool off in the pool too. Temp says 87 in Long Beach. He looks a little warm in the nest box.
Warm in the Emerald City too, 83 right now. About twenty degrees warmer than normal.
I saw him panting; now I know why.
We're in the high 70's here. Strangely shaped heat-wave, huh.
I guess they are just having a chat. One on the nest called, other came, and one on the nest still calling.
Still just preening, or does Whatever want a turn on the egg? :)

Your feed must not be as bad as mine is.
Back an hour and a half later. It's better now. Shim's still on the egg! Thought for sure as soon as I left they would switch. :)
Mine is fine now also. As soon as I finished my chores, it started working great. Almost like Explore.org was telling me to get my stuff done and then watch.
Whatever preening her mate. :)

I hope they are still working on the feed. It's stilted, herky-jerky, freeze-frame.
Whatever is trying to keep watch over Shim as he sits on their egg, but they are both falling asleep.

Ahhh! There's Mr. Shim on his egg! Another minimalist nest. :))
Thanks AOP and explore!

Great catch!
TY. So great to see them on the nest. :))
Yes, it is!
Good to see Shim and Whatever on the Nest Cam again.
Here's wishing them the best of luck for viable eggs and a chickie or two of their own.
Our penguins are in the middle of their breeding season, and we are hopeful that this will bring new additions to the Aquarium family. Successfully hatching an egg and raising a chick can be a difficult task for penguin parents. Shim and Whatever have experience as surrogate parents raising a chick. We are hoping this year may bring one of their own and have placed a webcam in their burrow over their nest. This could be the first time they incubate an egg and hatch a chick. We still do not know if the egg is fertile or how they will do this year, but we are hoping for the best. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
When was the egg laid? Gives us an idea of when to start watching closely for a pip. Thanks so much.

Roxys Little Chick :)
Little baby
Good Morning. So I have a question regarding the introduction of Roxoyd to the colony. When you bring it in to the beach, do you sit with it and let the others come to it? Also, do you leave Roxoyd there overnight to fend for itself?
Hi folks! It's us again. We just wanted to let you know that our penguin keepers have decided our feisty penguin chick can no longer be contained in its enclosure where we are streaming, so it has graduated to our behind the scenes pool at June Keyes! The chick is more comfortable with the company as well. The chick barely has any down left and is excited when it hears the rest of the colony. You'll be able to see it when it goes on exhibit next Tuesday! For now, here is a photo of the chick enjoying its new digs. Thanks for understanding that this move is for the health and wellbeing of our chick. We should find out soon whether we have a male or female so we can finally stop calling the chick "it" as well! We'll see you on the other cams!
Good morning, I am late to the scene as usual, but I am happy for the progress report. We all will welcome her/him to the beach soon. Please report as soon as the gender is discovered; we'll be excited to find out!
Thanks for the update. Everything you noted sounds exactly like what we've been witnessing. Roxoyd is a pip, most definitely. Thank you for ensuring that she receives such excellent care!!
Hoping to see a post on her gender soon!!
What a little cutie! Great image. Look forward to seeing the young one on the beach!
Thank you so much for the update on Roxoyd. I'm glad so glad things are going so good. How is swimming lessons going? Also, how was the interaction with Paddles and Mattson?
That little pengie is very precocious! Glad he/she got to hang out with Paddles and Mattson too.
Hey Roxoyd! I'm so happy you're here! We missed you. This pic has been taken over and over, but we are just so happy Roxoyd is back! One pic can never be enough!

Morning Anita and Roxoyd!
I was almost afraid to check in this AM, afraid they might have spirited her away again in the middle of the night.
How reassuring to see Miss Bright Eyes!
Hi Gail, my company hasn't left yet, so I only have these early hours to watch and respond...
things will become normal tomorrow. It's always a pleasure to have my son home ;)
Enjoy his visit! I'm going to be gone all day today, leaving in a couple minutes.
See you here in the AM.
My insomnia is in full swing & she woke up to keep me company :-) 1:00am local
Poor Roxoyd probably took one look at Paddles and Mattson and vowed she would never look that ratty! I hope Elvis has explained molt to her since she got back with tales of her adventures.
Elvis is a kind soul, but to explain all the pengy facts of life is a BIG job!
Roxoyd is back in her enclosure! And she looks exhausted.

I'm so relieved s/he is well and still among us! My mind had taken on a life of it's own, and I'll admit to entertaining many scenarios that didn't have fortunate endings. Thanks for a happy update. :)
Sounds like s/he had a big day! :)
Hooray nest cam is up!!
