His flu-like symptoms prevented him from being able to play a grueling, brutal sport that requires world class stamina and concentration... so this means he shouldn't be able to press a button on his phone? Maybe he did it during a TV timeout and actually watched every play of the game. Even if he didn't watch every play, who cares?

Media desperate for controversy.

Nah. Clowney pulled the same stuff when he was playing college football for South Carolina. He missed several games for questionable reasons and one time he waited until just before kickoff in the Kentucky game to tell his coach (Steve Spurrier) that he couldn't play...In fact defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said he thought Clowney would play during the team's walk-through and was surprised when he learned he wouldn't be playing.

Wait, didn't he basically sit out his final year at South Carolina cuz he didn't want to get hurt and effect his draft status? Dude is a wuss.

A bogus story. I've heard of baseball players sending numbers up into the stands during games. Professional athletes chase chicks ... Goofing around on your phone is exactly what I expect of ANY 20-something if they're laid out and sick.

A-Rod!

Foot surgery, sports hernia surgery, knee surgery and a concussion in pre-season.

Misses another game w/ Flu-like symptoms and checking instagram while not playing?

Pre-draft report said huge talent with questionable work ethic and decision making. Report looks correct at the moment.

Although he will not be a flat stone bust- he'll be a good player-nothing special. you saw the signs in college. he tanked then when he did not have money- now he does- he will tank still- He'll be flat broke 2-3 yrs after his career ends.

Whos fault? He has not completed a single season but allready has big money in the bank!!! All NFL owners are big time wealthy. They own the league yet this weird system of paying your top ten picks all that money just does not make any sense? I could be wrong? But my grandpa used to say never pay untill the job is done and done right. didnt Joe Montana need an iv during a freezing college bowl game, or Kellen Winslow play till he dropped? Ronnie Lott play with part of his finger torn off? Dan Fouts with his famous broken nose? Steve Deberg with a metall pin sticking out of his hand? What else can i say?

The guy was pegged as having a lack of drive and motivation back in college. His draft stock was falling until the combine and then everyone ignored those problems because of his 40 time, etc. I'm wondering why this radio guy is stalking Clowney's instagram account that closely though....kinda creepy.

Oilers version of Andrew Bynum??

Joe_MaMa • 9 years ago

I was thinking the same thing, but its the Texans, the old Oilers are in Tennessee.

chippahwinnah • 9 years ago

Good college players and NFL players are two different worlds. They either apply themselves with passion (and a lot of luck) or flim flam their way into oblivion. The dude will have to make his choices.

VCM - AAAA Commenter • 9 years ago

An NFL game is roughly 98% time outs and commercials. It takes about 3 seconds to like and Instagram pic. I'm pretty sure he could have watched every second of play and tapped the screen on his phone once.
Not a story - move on.

SheboyganInstitute • 9 years ago

Point is where is his focus? Is he watching his team and learning, or not. The Instagram is a symptom, not the illness. The message he sent on Instagram is that he doesn't care....

Brian Gallagher • 9 years ago

Unless he has the flu, he needs to play.

Joe Kennedy • 9 years ago

It does seem Clowney doesn't really want to play on Sundays. I hope he's not a Dud with a capital D.
