Great links and info ZH. I note an uptick around parts of the blogosphere (due in part to Parnell's defeat) of the phony meme that ACES equals socialism and by extension Gov Palin is no conservative. Pffft! The links on yesterday's open thread about the reality of Parnell's dismantling of ACE's (SB21?)were most helpful too.

Once again, an excellent find, ZH. Made me do some research on Josh Green's Atlantic articles on Sarah Palin, and there are quite a few - here's one from April 26, 2011:

http://www.theatlantic.com/...

Here's a snippet that both encapsulates their ambiguity while also displaying Green's dishonesty:

"As governor, Palin demonstrated many of the qualities we expect in our best leaders. She set aside private concerns for the greater good, forgoing a focus on social issues to confront the great problem plaguing Alaska, its corrupt oil-and-gas politics. She did this in a way that seems wildly out of character today—by cooperating with Democrats and moderate Republicans to raise taxes on Big Business. And she succeeded to a remarkable extent in settling, at least for a time, what had seemed insoluble problems, in the process putting Alaska on a trajectory to financial well-being. Since 2008, Sarah Palin has influenced her party, and the tenor of its politics, perhaps more than any other Republican, but in a way that is almost the antithesis of what she did in Alaska. Had she stayed true to her record, she might have pointed her party in a very different direction."

Of course, as we all know, Sarah just endorsed the winning gubernatorial candidacy of an independent new Governor, and a democratic new Lt. Governor, both of whom she endorsed over a GOPe ticket of oil company sellouts, which included her own former Lt. Governor, Sean Parnell. Looks to me like she has not changed a whit from her days as governor.

Here's a follow-up he wrote in May, 2011:

http://www.theatlantic.com/...

"...(H)er critics dismiss her out of hand for a number of obvious reasons, especially for her abrupt decision two years ago to quit her governorship. But in her brief tenure as governor, Palin was strikingly effective on the issue that matters most in Alaska, its oil and gas politics. Through sheer force of will (and a willingness to cooperate with Democrats), she managed to solve, at least for a time, the problem that lay at the heart of Alaska's politics for a generation: how to break the oil companies' grip on the state and capture a fair share of their profits for Alaskans. Palin's major achievement was winning an oil tax that did just that and was called Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share (ACES). While reporting the piece, I came to think of it as her "secret" success because, while there is nothing hidden about it, no one, including Palin herself that I can see, pays it any mind -- even though it has helped bring Alaska a $12 billion budget surplus, an achievement most presidential hopefuls would brag about incessantly (and justifiably)."

He had to get in the "quitter" lie to soften the blow for his Leftie readership, but he is honest about most of the rest.

Laddie_Blah_Blah • 9 years ago

Here's another one that Ian, identified as an "indefatigable supporter-cultist," may recognize - from August, 2011:

http://www.theatlantic.com/...

"In light of Friday's decision by Standard and Poor's to downgrade the United States' credit rating to AA+, it's worth mentioning again -- as I first did in this Atlantic piece -- that Alaska recently had its bond rating raised to AAA for the first time in the state's history, largely due to fiscal improvements brought about by Sarah Palin while she was governor."

He chooses to characterize the payouts from the oil companies under ACES as a "tax," when it is really more of an increase in the dividends, or licensing fees, paid by corporations to the owners of an asset they have been permitted to exploit - think of a landowner who leases his property to an oil company in return for a percentage of the income received for the extracted product.

Nevertheless, the benefit to the state and its people is explicitly acknowledged by Green.

Here is surprisingly favorable coverage of the premiere of "The Undefeated:"

http://www.theatlantic.com/...

It concludes with this nifty little insight from one of the movie's patrons:

"...Craig Bergman, a burly, cowboy-hatted gentleman from Des Moines, was plainly inspired by what he saw. He sought out Palin's aide, Rebecca Mansour, and, grinning widely, exclaimed, 'Now all she has to do is run!' I asked if he thought she would. 'Look, there has never been a weaker field,' he told me. 'If she doesn't run, we're going to nominate one of the three stooges--Romney, Pawlenty, or Perry--and they're going to lose to Obama. That will ruin the party.' The people around us nodded in agreement. I departed thinking that if Palin gets in, she'll have many energetic supporters--and that if she doesn't, she'll draw one heck of a backlash."

There was disappointment, but no "backlash." As we have just seen, Sarah Palin is the the most powerful GOP conservative voice in the USA. Just ask Joni Ernst, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, and many, many others.

Craig was right - "Now all she has to do is run!"

The ACA and filing season. Be afraid...
http://rothcpa.com/2014/11/...

"The biggest test will be what happens on or around April 15th. That’s the first time all the people who didn’t buy insurance will get hit with the individual mandate penalty, and the ones who thought that it was a nominal $95 fee are in for a nasty shock . April 15th will also be the first time that people who got too much in subsidies are going to be asked to pay back some of that money. I do not have hard figures on this, but my basic experience in personal finance and tax reporting suggests that approximately zero percent of those affected will be expecting the havoc it will wreak on their tax refund. Brace for a wave of taxpayers angrily complaining to congressmen and their local newspapers..."

Won't some of the unsuspecting who do nothing and renew their Obamacare be hit with the loss of their subsidy when they learn that the subsidy from 2014 will be added to their income and put them over the threshold for a subsidy in 2015... and that they will owe income tax on the subsidy.

Obama’s and the Democrats’ problems were the collective weight from the administration’s continued lies about how well the economy is doing; about how well Obamacare is doing; about the handling of the Ebola situation; about Obama’s phony war and phony coalition to defeat and degrade ISIS; about the politics of race; about his desperation to make a deal with Iran; about scandals such as Benghazi, the IRS and the Veterans Administration; and about his shoddy treatment of Israel. It has been compounded even further by the blunt remarks that came to light this week that showed how an MIT economics professor, Jonathan Gruber, who was one of the architects of Obamacare—and paid $400,000 for doing so—unambiguously revealed how the administration counted on what it viewed as “the stupidity of the American voter” to dishonestly push their health care legislation through Congress. Buckle up. We’re in for a hell of a ride.

We are seeing the revelations of the acts of the wicked....

More is coming...

Luke 12

3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

Job 5

12 He thwarts the plans of the crafty,

so that their hands achieve no success.

13 He catches the wise in their craftiness,

and the schemes of the wily are swept away.

14 Darkness comes upon them in the daytime;

at noon they grope as in the night.

Hebrews 10

30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

All 50 U.S. states, including President Barack Obama’s home state of Hawaii, dropped to freezing or below on Tuesday, reports the National Weather Service.

Hawaii’s dormant volcano, Mauna Kea, experienced 30 F to 32 F temperatures.

In New York, western parts of the state had four feet of snow — and three towns near Buffalo had to declare states of emergency.

Northern Florida is bracing for record-smashing low temperatures expected to drop below 20 degrees F near the state’s capital.

Milwaukee’s high temperature was 20 degrees F.

Of all the cities across the country, Buffalo, New York may have been the hardest hit. Four people died and over 150 people–including a women’s basketball team–spent the day trapped in their snowbound cars, prompting New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to declare a state of emergency. The storm has been dubbed “one of the worst in memory.”

According to the Boston Globe, 1,360 daily low records have been smashed across the country in a single week.

A Tuesday report by the Associated Press said Obama plans to devote his final two years in office to combating global warming.

Religion Of Peace Body Count In 2013: 17,958 Deaths, Nearly 10K Terror Attacks…

Didn’t Obama campaign on defeating al-Qaeda in 2012?

Via Raw Story:

The number of people killed globally in terrorist attacks jumped by 61 percent in 2013, reflecting the rise of Boko Haram and Islamic State jihadists, the Institute for Economics and Peace said Tuesday.

In its 2014 Global Terrorism Index launched in London, the Australian-based research group reported there were almost 10,000 terrorist attacks in 2013, a 44 percent increase on 2012.

These attacks resulted in 17,958 fatalities, up from 11,133 in 2012, with over 80 percent of the deaths occurring in just five countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria.

Iraq was found to be the country most affected by terrorism, recording a 164 percent rise in fatalities, to 6,362, with IS responsible for most of the deaths.

Four groups: IS, Boko Haram, al-Qaeda and the Taliban were blamed for 66 percent of all fatalities.

But the report found that attacks had also increased in the rest of the world, with fatalities rising by half the previous figure, to 3,236 in 2013.
