Hope you guys aren't processing fees upon debit cards, that is against the law.
I just utilized the recurring option for a customer but he says he's not receiving it. Does the email for recurring payments show that it's from my standard email or should he look for another one perhaps. I was thinking it might be going to his spam folder if it's showing up as another sender.
how can a client cancel auto billing?
You really should have researched "We Pay" before doing business with them... search "We Pay Sucks", let the good times roll. On a side note, FreshBooks is fantastic, just had too many bad experiences with We Pay and found too many others with the same problem. Was looking for a solution using Square and came across this post. Stripe has been rock steady with payments, but we wanted Squares next day pay. Will never use We Pay. I got burned and many others got burned. You guys opened a Pandora's Box with this decision, good luck with that.
Nice Blog . . Everything is in detail.. looking for the next blog from you like this.. thanks for the update.
Who is the processor behind freshbooks payments? Do you take "high risk" industries?
Nice that credit card processing is now integrated into freshbooks. Automatically recording processing cost as an expense is great, in the way that a seatbelt saves you from flying out the window when you rear-end someone. What would be better is no processing costs in the first place, by adding Bitcoin payment processing. Like anti-lock brakes, if you will. A seatbelt is nice, but better to not hit the poor bastard in the first place.
We're already accepting credit cards by another provider and would LOVE to have had this as an option three years ago when we first started using Freshbooks!
but, all of that said, our current provider only allows us Amex, Visa, Mastercard, if the Freshbooks offering also allowed Discover Card then we'd have a reason to also turn on/enable that in addition to our other.
Think that's coming soon?
Is auto-charging supported for the recurring invoices? I have a subscription based product, and Stripe allows me to manage these subscriptions and auto-charge the clients card each month.
I love how there is no option for bank to bank payment... (the only thing that does NOT have a fee).
It would be beneficial to be able offer a cash versus credit price. Who the heck wants to pay with a card for something over $1000. That's just plain STUPID.
NOT USING this option.
To clarify more, we should be able to re-coup our credit card fees if we want that option. The user should be able to accept the higher fee for using a card.
I run a business doing service calls at customers locations, I do not send out invoices but rather collect payment immediately on my phone, instant invoice and collections, my net terms are 0. I have been using square, do you have anything similar. Also 20% of my payments Amex
Is it possible to change the billing amount on a monthly basis as our clients pay based on work within a particular month ...
This is the third time I've tried to post here.
Is it possible to offer my credit card payment processor OR the new FreshBooks payment option?
I have an Authorize net account with much better rates than the new service. For the most part, I prefer to collect my money by check, and I have some clients that deposit directly into my bank account. But when time is of the essence, like when I have a new client that needs work done quickly, offering payment with credit card makes sense. But I can't collect via AmEx, so this new service would make sense there.
Any volume discounts on pricing?
Partial Payments! I've called in to vote for it several times over the years we've been a customer... Pleeeeeease make it happen. It would make Freshbooks the absolute perfect solution (Or so close to perfect it's ridiculous). We always take a deposit to begin work first. Had a customer this morning accidentally pay the full amount of the invoice because she thought we set it up to only take her deposit. Then had to go in and refund it. Such a pain and makes us look a little unprofessional. Can I do a +9999999999 votes for it so it goes straight to the top?
Nice work FreshBooks! Looks like this will simplify the experience for clients.
I am based in SA, it dont see Stripe as an option in SA?
I'm with Jerry from earlier in this thread. Give the customer the option to do PayPal Business or Freshbooks payment on the same invoice with payment fees automatically added to the bill and I'm in. Because I'm not taking 2.9% out of my cut.
Is this available in Australia & can Freshbooks automatically add the 2.9% as a fee onto the bill?
So how is the partial payment going?
Can your clients pay in multiple currencies?
(If partial payments are needed that badly, maybe you're charging too much?) lol
How is this different from the Stripe feature?
can it be set up to add the finance card to the client balance when they pay?
I had an incredibly bad experience with WePay payments after using them for over a year. They've lost me as a customer forever because of it. PLEASE, PLEASE consider an alternative to them.
I had to pass on paypal because they limit to 10k a month, not transaction, 10k a month, I had to run this all thru wells fargo and it is a pain....is there a limit on the freshbooks?
2 Q's:
- Does this work for Singapore bank account or only US based?
- Is there an option to charge the client for all the fees?
Can you set it up to automatically charge their card?
Great option, can it do subscriptions?
I would be really excited about this if it actually saved me any money compared to Paypal. Right now the processing fees appear to be pretty much the same.
The option to automatically add credit card processing fees as already suggested might help.
Will this become an option in Canada at any time?
I beta tested this and the payments took over a week to make it to my bank after they were made via Freshbooks. PayPal does it in 48 hours. For a small business, the extra 5+ days of waiting can be critical, especially if its a client that is paying late to begin with. Until you can turn it around in 48 hours like PayPal I can deal with the annual 20 minutes I spend on the entry of my PayPal fees into FreshBooks.
My biggest problem with all these systems is the % charge per transaction. That % comes out of my gross, not my net, so depending on what my margins are, that could be a size-able chunk of my profit. Is the convenience of accepting credit cards online worth a 3% gross share of my business? Maybe for some, but not for me.
+1 on partial payments- 5+ years with Freshbooks and this would be a huge improvement along with adding ability to place photos into the invoice.....
I'm all for being able to do credit card payments, but refused to thus far because 3% adds up over the course of the year. PLEASE consider adding some sort of an option for an automatic fee if they choose to pay by credit card. Yes, of course that can be a problem with the merchant agreement, but simply call it a convenience fee or some such thing. Give FreshBooks users the ability to set it as a flat fee or a certain percentage and title it whatever they want. Do this, and I'll definitely make use of it!
I currently pay under 2% per transaction with chase. I use fresh books but also quickbooks for my busimess bc you can not put in expenses directly based from revenue.
Lots need to be improved.
Hey Caesar,
Thanks so much for your feedback! Totally understandable about the rates - we're starting it off at industry-standard rates, although we understand that your existing set-up might be better for you (which is great!). As for other missing features (such as putting in expenses directly from revenue) - I'll be sure to forward this off to our product team as feedback. Thanks!
It would be great if you could partner with bitpay to add bitcoin support. 0% fees.
Hey Julian - we totally hear you on that and I will forward this off to our product team for consideration. Thanks for the feedback!
These credit cards companies are really making out. I should start a credit card company. We all should at these rates!
So, if a client owes me $1,000, $29 will come out of what I would normally get paid? On top of all the taxes I pay and blah blah blah? Doesn't sound like a deal to me. I'd rather wait a month or two until the client pays up, as that amount of waiting ($10-20) is still cheaper.
Hey Jami, Max from FreshBooks here. That makes total sense and we understand that the fees may add up. If your existing set-up works great for you, then by all means you can keep using that! This is just another option that small business owners can use to get paid online - but absolutely no obligation! :)
Does it support Discover card payments too?
Hey Kevin,
Apologies for the late reply! Discover card is definitely supported as well :)
+1 for partial payments! I work on a deposit basis and have several clients who work with limited budgets. It would be so wonderful to tell them that they can pay over time without having to call or email me to tweak an invoice.
Hey Heather! Absolutely - the partial payments method in FreshBooks is currently a workaround, and I definitely understand that this hinders your day-to-day billing needs. I'll be sure to send the +1 over to the product team! Thanks again for your feedback :)
Give the customer the option to do PayPal Business or Freshbooks payment on the same invoice with payment fees automatically added to the bill and I'm in. Because I'm not taking 2.9% out of my cut.
Can I give my customers the option to leave a tip on top of the invoice total i.e. $300 invoice they would like to pay $400?
