Obviously lies lies and more lies (allegedly) .She will be a prospective Labour MP soon . 28 another lie?

TheLastPlainsman • 9 years ago

I hit the link to see what she looked like, and overall, not to impressive. Though I admit to being an 'empowered straight male'(whatever that is) have never actually paid for it. Or, alternately, have paid for it by way of dinner, drinks, entertainment, etc., but felt that I had really earned it after that, as I had subjected myself to an episode of constant chatter, tedious theories about everything, and inane gossip about everyone.
Chewing my ear off with endless blithering over an massively agonizing amount of time, say three or four hours- yeah, I earned it.

Guest • 9 years ago

She is a fantasist. I had several friends working as top end call girls in London at that time for £500 per hour. They were a very particular and rare kind of woman that Magnanti is not - physically incredibly beautiful but also with charming personalities, and with cut glass public school accents.

That is why they can charge this rate. Magnanti is plain and charmless and there is no way she was a high class call girl - just a bog standard prostitute. She tried to make it sound glamorous. There is no glamour in prostition at any level.

Bruiser in Houston • 9 years ago

okayyyyy

elrondmiddleeng • 9 years ago

And so there is no glamour in sex work, and these women had charming personalities! You say they earnt 500, well she was charging a lower rate of 300, so very plausible.

The article is wrong on rates. The Economist has an article which shows the rate of a sex worker has gone down in the last 10 years. The statistic Jeremy chhoses is totally incorrect. £300 an hour was totally reasonable in 2002

Is this person of any consequence that Breitbart has chosen to dedicate several articles to her? I am puzzled, really.

Katabasis • 9 years ago

Don't forget that she's sitting on a hill of notoriety now large enough that people pay attention to what she says on other issues (e.g. politics).

I'm pretty happy to see as many of these serial bullsh1tt3rs exposed as possible.

They all add, in their own way, to our collective misery.

so Brooke, put me down for ZERO....

Jim South London • 9 years ago

None of us because because she was never a prostitute.
Just some made up middle class metropolitan bullshit to sell a few copies of her tawdry books.
She would have found prostitution very boring waiting on clients working in a service sector which is underpaid ,sometimes dangerous and always looked down upon.

http://www.punternet.com/in...

Maybe if her and anyone else thinks that prostitution is so glamorous they should go on punternet type in their home town and read the reviews especially the ones that say no.

Michael Diedan • 9 years ago

She's a fantasist just like all feminists.

Gary Bird • 9 years ago

Yeah OK but British/US/Canadian/Australian prossies always commanded a higher rate.

The girl you are comparing her with is Bulgarian.

Also it depends if Brooke also did buttseks, natursekt and so on.

It could happen.

Viking Jack • 9 years ago

Perhaps she was also an expert with the so-called Baltimore grip, Shanghai squeeze or China clinch. I’m told that poorly dimensioned Asiatics are rather keen on it – and it has notoriety in the British establishment, allegedly being used to enchant a King!

Katabasis • 9 years ago

Great. Yet another serial fantasist who is showered in plaudits, fame
and prominent channels to write their guff and promote themselves.

And to add insult to injury she is a PhD too - yet another one that appears to have been awarded on the back of a cigarette packet.

Is it any wonder we are in so much strife given how easily such bullsh1tt3rs seem to prosper in our moronic Guestablishment?

Temporary ID • 9 years ago

The "happy hooker" existed long before Belle De Jour. Whether Magnanti is lying or not has no bearing on whether "happy hookers" are the norm or a rarity.

pgtipsster • 9 years ago

She is one of the most if not the most high profile propagator of the "happy hooker" lifestyle. If it turns out that she's been lying all this time, people need to know.

elrondmiddleeng • 9 years ago

This article has the cost of an escort totally wrong for the date Belle was working. Yes an escort can be hired for her services for much less than £300 an hour now, but back in the time Belle was working the price was far higher. What has changed is the large number of East Europeans who have flooded the market. One of the responders commented on £500 back then for an hour for a good looker and then said no one would hire Brooke who was only charging £300. Duh! He though destroyed your rates argument!

Now there are people who say she does not look good. They are comparing non touched up media news pictures when she is 10years older with a glamorous but touched up promotional picture. Duh! Chech her escort advertising picture from alphababes.

I have met escorts who found London paved with gold in the early noughties, making £5000 a week easily. Now its difficult to make much with escorts now charging £110 an hour.

As I understand its very probable what Brooke says is true, she having had to defend her earnings to the Inland Revenue. This article, and the scurrilous article on her sock puppet accounts are incorrect. Trying to use faux science on the content of the tweets, content and grammar. Hey this is twitter and grammer is rather limited in 140 characters. What you did was destroy another women when you claimed that the two twitter accounts were operated by Brooke.

It seems the anti prostitution team are losing the fight for the general public's view (latest Observer figures on acceptability of sex work show greater acceptance than 8 years ago) and now are hell bent on discrediting anyone who has stood up to support sex work as an acceptable way of life.

Factually the article is incorrect. The TV series came out before Brooke came out.

Too unkind Jeremy, maybe best to leave her alone now.

ADB1979 • 9 years ago

She would have to pay me, rather than the other way around as she is hideous.

I have always wondered how she was ever employed in her previous profession, let alone at the costs she claims to have been paid.

Ripsnorter • 9 years ago

It is possible she specialised in the really dirty, nasty, manky and gnarly end of the market, doing things only a Japanese businessman would enjoy, involving a glass coffee table and stuff.

Victor Cachat • 9 years ago

Looking at her picture at the top of the article, I would "pay her to leave" before she did her job.

Lydia Robinson • 9 years ago

"But although it's fine to indulge in fantasies about being an attractive
and alluring high-class hooker, readers deserve to know what is fact
and what is fiction. And they deserve to know whether the message,
propagated for years by the media as a result of Magnanti's allegedly
fanciful imagination - that prostitution is an empowering, positive
lifestyle choice for women - is probably based on fiction."

I'm a laydee and I already knew that and certainly don't need a journalist to point it out. I must admit, I only read one article in the DT by this person and it was so full of factual anomalies that even I could pick them out.

Would you pay three hundred quid for a night with that old boiler? She couldn't have looked much better when she was younger. Bone structure doesn't lie.

Timmy2much • 9 years ago

You only have to look at her and you know she's full of s**t - who the hell would pay £300/hr for that !
(before anyone gets snippy she has, in her own words, sold herself on the open market. As such she can, and should, be judged in the same way you would any other commodity, at least when talking about her on this particular issue).

"she worked as a prostitute in London for 'eighteen months' between 2003 and 2004."

Now that's interesting.

That allows up to 2 years to work. You must have failed your Maths test.

Maybe she travelled back in time 6 months in late 2004.

Sadly, no. Like Ed, I'm saddled with the burden of knowledge that 'between' is a very specific term. So are the terms 'through' and 'inclusive.'

rubiconscross • 9 years ago

I believe she was paid £300 an hour. With a face like that, I would pay Brooke £500 to stay away from me!

An interesting article. Must take issue with one thing:

"If Magnanti really was a £300-an-hour escort, the 28-year-old woman would have looked dramatically different to other call girls in the same price bracket, a fact that has been overlooked by others so as not to appear sexist"

Please avoid using this ludicrous word "sexist". What does it mean? Nobody can agree a definition. Does it mean to treat men and women differently (though we all do that and correctly so)? Or to suggest a fairly unattractive women in her late 20s can't charge a fortune in escort fees? Or to give a girl a pink doll? Or to accept the scientific evidence behind why so few women study maths at graduate level? Or to say those accused of rape are innocent until proven guilty?

At the end of the day men and women are different so the term "sexism" is redundant; it is merely used by the modern left to try to shut down debate. The word that should have appeared in that sentence was "ungentlemanly", i.e. "a fact that has been overlooked by others so as not to appear ungentlemanly"

I will confess to having had that thought myself when I saw her in interview on Newsnight; that it seemed scarcely believable that a man would pay to sleep with her. It is worth remembering though that all women sooner or later, to use the American expression, "hit the wall" - for some this is in their late 20s, others in their mid 30s, when all the girlishness, all that sort of beguiling charm evaporates - after that time they might well still be beautiful, sexy etc but they never again have that special quality, that special status of being a girl, of being called Mademoiselle when in France, and alluring to so many more men. So to look at Magnanti today as she is I guess not far off 40 it's impossible to really say what she looked like in her 20s or more precisely how alluring she might have been in person, if she could fake any sort of innocence, the sort of thing that a photo can't always capture (especially as the link to the 2003 escort advert is broken - maybe the photo should be embedded in the article so we can really judge for ourselves).

elrondmiddleeng • 9 years ago

I would add, I missed it in a previous comment, that men are not just buying beauty but personality and intelligence. The recent economist article showed how prices were higher 10 years ago. The article also showed those who could charge more were white women, and even higher for women who had a good degree. This is saying the sex organ is the brain.

jimmy • 9 years ago

Yes, wages have fallen in real terms for most unskilled/low skilled work thanks to the crazy rates of immigration Labour began (in order to ethnically cleanse England's major cities) and has now been continued by the "modern" Conservative party. I know many people now worse off than they were a decade ago, especially any who don't own property, due to immigration. So it isn't hard to imagine the same is happening to prostitutes.

And you're right it's not all down to looks I am sure, as I said, if Magnanti could still in her late 20s fake some innocence she might have still be physically attractive to enough men.

Who knows really? Better not to believe anything that's written on twitter etc. and it seems these days we have to adopt the same attitude to the likes of the Telegraph (Cathy Newman, Dan Hodges) and Guardian (Hadley Freeman, Jessica Valenti) as they employ more and more people who are not serious journalists in the normal sense of the word but instead thinly disguised activists. Compared to the lies those four I just mentioned indulge in, who cares if an ex prostitute over-egged memories of how much she charged?

People write fantasy fiction. If the fantasy did not already exist that there are lovely, intelligent, high class hookers out there, choosing to do what they do rather than choosing to be a neuroscientist say, or a barrister, then there would have been no market for her fiction in the first place. If she is paid to appear in the public domain and give her opinion on other subjects she can simply be introduced as a writer of fantasy fiction. Artistic licence is still allowed, nanny state does not yet entirely regulate or seek to examine the veracity of pulp fiction.

ASurvivorKnows • 9 years ago

As a survivor of ten years in the sex trade, it's always been obvious to me that Magnanti's story is a fake designed to promote the sex industry. The dozens of survivors I know have found her stories laughable and not at all credible. What we have found especially offensive is her alliances with current and former madams and wealthy pimps like Douglas Fox, Who was featured in the TV show The Escort Agency. Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation are brutal and violent. The vulnerable people caught in this system experience the worst kind of abuse. Magnanti has routinely mocked survivors of the sex trade who speak out, on twitter and elsewhere. Perhaps she is afraid if the public have access to the truth about the sex trade, her deception will become clear.
