I posted an update comment yesterday, but it is missing. Again: Update: Lyft asked me to take down the website because it might have confused people, though they admired the creativity and idea. Oh well, it was a fun little experiment while it lasted.

Thanks for the write up Andrew! It should be noted that this is a built in feature in Foursquare's web application. I just noticed it could be used to observe when a train would be there, based on checkin data. Nonetheless very cool, and big props to my friends at Foursquare HQ for implementing it. Now, about that snack and drink...

I've gotten a ticket for violating the RPP. $52 I believe. I misread the sign, but never again. I don't know how many parking officers the city has, but they are definitely ticketing people (like me).

I feel that the city should have to prove the negative effects of radio frequency emissions on the health of its citizens before such a ban were to occur. Those leases are a valuable revenue source for the city that doesn't involve taxing citizens or automated enforcement. The city should be looking to get more cell tower contracts, not less, for revenue, and to increase coverage as smart phone use increases, especially with the population that generally doesn't have internet access.

Interesting! I shared my map last week with some lawyer friends. One of them did some ACLU work in a case against the city, and was familiar with what Carol mentions. He also said the number is more likely to be around 30k. Nevertheless, I think my map, which was just a fun little project, really shows it well, because the point size make the dots cover more than one house. I'd be willing to wager that a lot of the unreported vacants are in the same neighborhoods where the dots are highly clustered!

Hey Mystic. I'm Elliott and an SU3. This is a hot button issue right now in the SU3 community but as with most things, this comes down to cost. Google charges more for its imagery. But fear not, you can get involved by mapping your local community. When you add buildings it helps the rest of the superusers and the platform. Read more in the article. I'm mentioned ;) This is why I got into OSM mapping. Cheers.
