True Blood gives a oblique race tolerance nod but will never rise to Torchwood's last season. Thank you for telling me about it. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Re: True Blood

I have not seen the third season of Torchwood yet. I have not even seen it listed over here this year. I was not a fan of Buffy either. I watched for a while but just could not quite get into it. Of course I am not a real "Trekkie" either although I did watch more of that than Buffy over the years. I have always loved Sci-Fi and fantasy books, TV shoes, movies, etc. and see/ read as many as I can. I end up watching more shows on the Discovery channel and the like as today's reality TV obsession is driving me crazy. By campy I refer to the duster (coat) flipping, swaggering, over the top acting that seems to be present in all Sci-Fi or fantasy series. The books that I have read do not seem to have the same impact. Gripping....yes. Intense.....yes. Hamming it up......not so much. I am not sure if this is because the audience is perceived to expect such extremes in emotion in relation to context or what, but it all seems a tad overdone. True Blood does get better. As a groundbreaking series it's okay. I find Sookie's character a bit too ingenuous as I did not get that feeling from the books. Thankfully we see less of her brother's privates in subsequent episodes. I expect with the rise in interest in Sci-Fi,/ fantasy/ paranormal television series continue this will even out. I remember watching the old Dr. Who so the new is an improvement. I think Fringe is well done. I like the eccentric characters.

To my comment of "genre:" You are correct; they are not really the same. Perhaps I am dating myself. When I was in high school all Sci-Fi/ fantasy were considered "the same thing" as far as the libraries were concerned and were all jumbled in one area. It was not until the rise of the paranormal romance were these section separated.

Prudish Americans? Don't judge us all by the incredibly vocal and ignorant far right. A lot of us can say "toilet" and more just fine. Superiority complex anyone?

Re: True Blood

Of course! Each have less than thrilling characters and episodes; however, I have yet to see a really good TV series in this genre yet. All of them are a bit campy and therefore fun. The Harris series gets quite complicated as it progresses so it will be interesting to see if TV can keep up.

Re: True Blood

And Torchwood was better how?
