So perhaps you're all wrong... This would also explain the 5 olympic rings - 5 inhabited continents where the Olympic ideals are upheld.

Re: How Many Continents Are There…Really?

The secret is to use the phrase "Some people believe...", eg "Some people believe there are 5 continents. Of course, mummy knows best".

My mum does the wet hair thing. Drives me insane. She also tells my children that if they accidently swallow their snot (as 2 and 4 yr olds are prone to do, as they don't 'get' the blowing the nose thing), it'll "Sit on their chest and make them ill" - I had to point out that their oesophagi lead to their stomachs, not their lungs.

So these things aren't just cultural - they're generational as well. R had some odd views before we had kids. He's since learned that, where the kids are concerned, I'm (mostly) always right.

Re: Life In and Out of the U.S.

My parents live mostly in Spain, but are still resident in the UK and spend quite a bit of time here. From their experience, I'd say the main issues are the practical ones - how to manage a house and bills when you're not there to oversee them, how to manage two cars, one in each country, how to arrange a social life in each place that is satisfying while not feeling like you're missing out all the time. Spain is...laid back, let's say...and so when issues occur (such as getting home to find the water's been cut off because the bank account number changed without anyone warning them, or the boiler's packed up, or the pool's sprung a leak) it's difficult to get someone to come out/sort the problem. I know it leaves them with a lot of frustration. They're thinking of moving to Florida for 6 months a year though (with 2 x 1 month in UK and 4 months a year in Spain) so it's can't be that bad.
I can imagine you and Seba really making it work. And I think your business will really benefit from the US exposure.

Re: Fotos Boda, Sesiones, y Behind the Scenes

I also LOVE the doorway shot - sometimes the accidental shots are the very best!

I love seeing the behind-the-scenes photos. Sounds utterly terrifying - but I'm glad you've taken it in your usual stride. Hell, you've been thrown through the air by a car - an earthquake is nothing, right?
Hugs, lovely xx

Re: Keith and Jane | Fotografia Santiago

Awww, these are beautiful and, as you said, so natural. Seriously effing amazing work. Love, love love the one of the girls assisting Emily with her dress - so regal, reminds me of a bygone era, French aristocracy. And that last shot - wow! I also LOVE Seba's work with the boys, especially the shoe shot, and the silhouette (Silhouettes are beginning to be his signature shots, I think...)
Beautiful. They way you've photographed Emily, it makes me want to meet her - she looks fun and happy and kind and oh-so beautiful. Someone else said "shot with love" and I think that sums it up, really. "Love, shot with love." Hey, it could be your new tagline!!

Re: Massive Earthquake Hits Chile

I heard the news in the car a few hours after it happened (10am UK time) and my first thoughts were for you and Seba. Happy Anniversary!

As for age, pah. You could have got married at 42 and it not last a year. Age has nothing to do with love. (I was...[counts on fingers]... 7 days past my 29th birthday when I got married - Rich was 25, a month away from his 26th birthday. So far, so good. 5 yrs for us in June.

A few nights at a hotel without internet access sounds incredibly relaxing.

Re: Curanto en Chiloe

Wow, Kyle, I can't believe how flipping fantastic this wedding sounded. The next time you have a wedding in Chiloe, I want to second (third?) shoot for you! Amazing photos - Emily knows how to work that camera! Oh and yeah, her husband-to-be isn't too bad himself, is he? Those black and white images are fantastic!

Technical question - the photo above the b&w - where Emily's standing on the bench - how do you meter? Is the faded top half of the photo done in post? Or have you metered for Rodolfo? Fantastic look - I just can never get that amazing light look to my images! Hope you don't mind me asking...

Re: Chiloe Rocks My Socks

Sounds like my kind of holiday - the walking, the good food and the relaxing, although I'm not so sure about the running!

Re: Slow Paced South American Life

Sounds just like my parents' assessment of Spain, or at least their part of Spain, where it took 3 YEARS to get a council tax bill - 3 YEARS of calling the local government office asking for a bill, knowing that eventually they'd send the demand through. So funny.

On the other hand, my daughter (Ysella) has a name that gets mispronounced ALL THE TIME in the UK ("Yes-ella" "Wys-ella" etc) and the GP's receptionist (much like your doorman) is convinced I get it wrong, and I'm saying "It's Ella", even when I spell it for her. Going to Spain is a joy ("Aah, ee-ZELL-ah") and I imagine that, if Ysella ever visits Chile, she'd find it equally as sympathetic to her name.

Re: Carolina & Alberto

I love these! Seriously impressed with Seba's handling of the TS lens, those things aren't easy! And I think it'll stay with you forever. When you give birth, it's huge but, well, hormones make you forget the physical and emotional trauma (usually - one day I promise I'll blog about Ethan's birth!) and you get a baby at the end of it.

You've had an amazing year, but you deserve all the success in the world.
