That is TOO funny but I am not surprised at your Google find. Here in Italy, I went to the cemeteries for photos of people who fit the image I have in my head. I also needed surnames; people know where you are from by your name so I couldn't give my characters just any name i liked. I found I also needed a time line because my story is set in the past. My head is not only backwards but sometimes goes around in circles.

Re: Every Man A Giant: The Magpie's Tale

Well that should keep the suspense going.

Re: Every Man A Giant: The Magpie's Tale

I like The Magpie's Secret better because it is more compelling. Not
everyone wants to hear a tale, but there is something irresistible about a
secret and finding out what it is.

Re: Every Man A Giant: The Magpie's Tale

Lucky you, you found a title, and it fits hand in glove with your story. I can't think of a title for mine and I can only hope something falls into my lap when I'm not looking. If I don't schedule time to write, like an appointment, I'll let all sorts of other things eat up my time. Of course, work does take precedence...can't change that.

Re: Every Man A Giant: Get Me Rewrite!

You made me laugh with your last sentence. It was rather unexpected but so REAL. I have the same research going on...trying to get dates and ages right for all the characters...placing them in the proper world or national events...so I know the type of research you are doing. It can be fun, but time consuming too.

I think it's great that your thinking process combines the present book and the sequel as well. They feed off each other.

I'm also amused that your writing has you living both as writer and editor all at once. I'm curious...would you recommend the book "Elements of Style" for writers to follow?

Re: Every Man A Giant: A Work In Progress

Good for you that you are plugging through. Sometimes when I look at the work in terms of words, I really feel overwhelmed. But once I start writing the words can sometimes pour out. I like the plot and although I think people are used to the "happy endings" in movies, books etc, they will relate to a story that runs on like real life. And it seems it will be the stepping stone for the sequel...? :-)

Re: Comet Ikeya-Seki - Wordless Wednesday (NOT)

The northern part in Piemonte. Since I haven't really learned the different
constellations myself, I am not sure, but I might have seen the little
dipper last night. Who knows...there was no one awake to ask! :-)

Re: Comet Ikeya-Seki - Wordless Wednesday (NOT)

it's the same where I live right now. There's no light pollution so the
night sky is absolutely beautiful to look at without a lens.

Re: Comet Ikeya-Seki - Wordless Wednesday (NOT)

My brother is very interested in astronomy and often we'd find him laying out on the roof at night. I can't remember now if he got a telescope or not, but that would have been very helpful. I remember going out of the city hoping to catch a glimpse of the Perseid Meteor Shower.

Re: Every Man A Giant: Volunteers of America

I agree with you the sequel is a good thing even at this stage. Your character might even "star" in another story completely different because you know his personality so well even before the book and sequel is done!

Re: Every Man A Giant: The Hot Line

Glad to hear the book is coming along well. I too am trying my hand at a novel based on some of the things I've learned in Italy. It will be interesting to keep in touch on that basis because writing is one thing...the rest is somewhat of a maze and i hear it's not very easy to be published. Neither is writing easy!

Volunteering is always a noble thing AND if there is a generation that always needs it, it's teenagers in any era. Even the little things, to us seem like nothing, but seems like the end of the world to them. Must be the hormones.

It's always rewarding when you get feedback that what you did helped someone out...esp when it is so critical!

By the way, was your friend being sassy or did they mean Time heals all wounds? Although I suppose, for those where things didn't work our so well, it would be Time wounds all heels.
