I would like to share a couple funny encounters with yakuza I had while living abroad in Japan as a military brat. My first encounter was on my first visit to my mother's family of uncles and aunts, I quickly learned how to obtain toys by speaking selective words in Japanese, like omocha. My uncles took me to the local bathhouse and I brought my rubber band powered toy u-boat to play in the large hot tub. Unfortunately it struck a full body tattooed yakuza in his behind, my uncles apologized and that was the last time they took me to a bathhouse. My second encounter was at a temporary summer job working at the fruit store at the local mall, next to a bakery and an exotic restaurant that served cooked snake meat or liquor infused with snake blood. I was working the night shift with a yakuza employee, he was a well-dressed ladies man and was wearing his girlfriend's sandals at the time. While he was in the back getting tea, I heard him scream and then run out of the store. It turns out one the snakes from next door had escaped and emerged out of the wall. I called the boss back from his dinner break and he singlehandedly wrestled the snake out the store and called restaurant owner (using the bakery's payphone) to come take care of his four foot long non-poisonous snake.

Re: New LEGO Worlds Showcase Collection Pack Free DLC! Did you spot the map cursor in the Map Overview pause menu? Use your Right Stick to find it (and it shows the hidden functionality of R3 Select). R2 zooms in the map, and L2 zooms back out.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 Review: Ploughing Forward

Farming Simulator 16 was actually released to the android/iOS and portable gaming console market. We'll probably hear an announcement in the coming months about FS 18. PC and consoles versions have even years, while the rest are released on odd numbered years. Chickens require no caring for in FS 17, they're provided free and periodically lay eggs that can be gathered and sold. The game has its share of easter eggs, I wasn't expecting the one just in time for Halloween.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 (PS4) Review

According to an interview with Martin Rabl, GIANTS Software marketing and PR manager, several of their employees come from an agricultural background, and they even hired people from the FS modding community to work on this installment of the game series.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 (PS4) Review

Looks like the gaming community is ticked off that a small company based in Switzerland and Germany managed to deliver what it had been promising via it's aggressive FB (over 600k subscribers) PR campaign. Mods for PS4/Xbox One on day one of the game's release! I have to admit that GIANTS Software's bilingual color instruction manual is pretty to look at, but completely fails to explain the games new menu and interface, and the brand new mission system. You end up discovering things by watching YT let's plays or the company's official website active forum user community and trial and error gameplay.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 review

"The core game can be played solo or with a friend (in co-op) mode." There's no local co-op for this game, it is online multiplayer which requires a PS Plus subscription. That's why online play is optional. It's too bad that they haven't added this option, I can see parents playing the game with their young children, and friends playing alongside each other. They actually disabled the new mission system for multiplayer, so it only works on single-player.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 Review – Entertainment Drought (PS4)

Massey Ferguson is available as a tractor and harvester in the base game of FS 17 for PS4.

Re: Farming Simulator 17 Review – Entertainment Drought (PS4)

The new features of this installment of FS have certainly made the game needlessly complex for the casual gamer or newcomers attracted to the series (thanks to the PR campaign on FB). People that pre-ordered the digital version from the PSN store are looking for an instruction manual. I hope that Sony will post it to their PlayStation Docs website someday. It was odd to find the PS4 exclusive New Holland T7 HD Blue Power tractor was added as a free DLC instead of actually being included in the game like FS 15. And all those store exclusive pre-order bonus tractors can be purchased as DLC from the PSN store. Kudos for having the FREE mods available to download on day one of the games release date!

Re: E3 2016 – Farming Simulator 17 Preview – Sweet Roar of the Tractor (PS4)

In regards, to your informative preview article, is the two player co-op gameplay local (as in couch co-op) or online with someone from your friends list?

Trains were added in FS 15, you loaded them up with crops or lumber and sent them through the tunnel to their destination by activating a switch by the tracks.

Re: E3 2016 – Farming Simulator 17 Preview – Sweet Roar of the Tractor (PS4)

It's not a tycoon style game where there's fixed scenarios and goals to accomplish. It's a completely open-ended game where you can choose to farm crops or 'raise' animals. You start out with a set amount of cash and an outstanding bank loan,,, so you manually control vehicles at first (to save cash) and farm crops, selling to the highest paying buyer. Eventually, you earn enough money to pay off the loan, and 'hire' workers to do the mundane farming tasks. You can buy more fields to expand your farm, or feed your animals to produce eggs, milk, or wool, or keep buying better vehicles and equipment. It's a never-ending work simulation game.

Re: E3 2016 – Farming Simulator 17 Preview – Sweet Roar of the Tractor (PS4)

I would choose the second article, since it's based on Jamie Madigan's book "Getting Gamers: The Psychology of Video Games and Their Impact on the People who Play Them." Madigan has a website dedicated to his hobby and study - www.psychologyofgames.com.

“At its core, simulation games offer the best aspects of some activities with lots of choices and little downside, either while you’re doing them or after you’ve completed one round and headed into the next, he said.

“You get to make choices that you could never make in the real world’s equivalent of that activity. They strip away all the bureaucracy, consequences, and — let’s be honest — necessary restrictions that the real world imposes on work, and they let you experience an idealized and imminently convenient version of that job,” Madigan said.

The first article is based on a journalist's interviews with simulation game players. The last article (featuring quotes from Madigan) is a writer's take on playing a couple hours of Farming Simulator 2013.

Re: E3 2016 – Farming Simulator 17 Preview – Sweet Roar of the Tractor (PS4)

GIANTS Software has been releasing Farming Simulator for the PC since 2009 (PC and console versions are numbered odd years, while the mobile/tablet and portable versions are numbered even years). It was first released for the console and portable market in 2013. The game is quite popular in Europe, it has attracted almost 5 million players worldwide. The PC version comes with the SDK, and has a modding community that's been designing custom vehicles, equipment and maps.

Here's some articles that explain the popularity of 'job' simulator games:

"What's the appeal of these 'mundane' simulator games?" Ed Ram, BBC News

"Why we like to play simulations of jobs we'd hate in real life" Heather Newman, GamesBeat (VentureBeat)

"Why I keep playing this 'boring' simulator game" Joe Bernardi, Hopes&Fears

Re: Farming Simulator 16

In regards, to the large map vehicle touch points being too small, you can double-tap an empty area (mountains or water works well) of the front touch screen and you'll get a zoomed in view of the map. You can move around the enlarged map with your finger. When you're in the vehicle view, double-tap the front touch screen and you'll get a front reverse-friendly view of your tractor. Double-tap to return to the normal view.

Another feature that they added for the AI is the honk the horn to empty your harvester (nearby tractor w/tipper will drive up and then return to its original spot). Honk the horn to clear oncoming traffic on the paved roadways. Tap the rear touchpad to sound the horn.

None of these features are mentioned in the digital manual of the game.

Re: Farming Simulator 16 – Watching Grass Grow (Vita)

According to Farming Simulator Twitter: Quick update for our farmers in the US: Because of a technical issue, Farming Simulator 16 will be available on the US PSN store on October 12th.

Re: Farming Simulator 16 – Watching Grass Grow (Vita)

According to the twitter feed at Farming-Simulator.com the NA PSN Store has a digital release date of October 12. Since I've already added the soup packet before adding the water (turning off the stove as soon it comes to a boil). The cooked ramen noodles absorbs most of the soup, and are a bit chewier. Cold ramen tastes good on a hot summer day/night.

Re: Fire Ramen in Kyoto

Adam Savage: "Am I missing an eyebrow?"

Re: 1-Year-Old Girl Goes Shopping in Japan

Meanwhile in the USA, a sleepy intoxicated Billy Joe Madden uses his 8-year-old son as the designated driver for his pickup truck from Mississippi to Dallas, while his 4-year-old daughter sat in the backseat.
