Where is Chuck D when madness like this begins? He should sit down with him and have a talk or something.

Re: Nightline Reinforces Stereotypes Of Lonely Black Women

That's exactly what I thought. When I was younger I dated older women, and as a younger guy it is easier (in some cases) to live up to the standard because you are not exactly set in your ways. Being younger I also found that some of the older women I dated were more open about their feelings and were more realistic about what a realationship entails. So it is possible that there are a number of options, but at the end of the day they are all individual and there is no one answer for all.

Re: Nightline Reinforces Stereotypes Of Lonely Black Women

I also find that kind of strange. It is like how many times does the same kind of story need to be put into the news?

Re: Nightline Reinforces Stereotypes Of Lonely Black Women

What is also comical is Steve Harvey's advice. Men his age messed up by not teaching the younger men. So go out and marry an older man? That seems really strange. Maybe Steve is looking for wife number 4.

In reality I don't there is such a thing as a one answer for such a thing. There is no overall sweeping reason why anyone is not married, each situation is completely individual. I also question whether the statics are real and as someone pointed out having a high marriage rate doesn't equal a high staying married rate.

I also agree that it is illogical to think that dating out of "supposed" race is a parachute i.e. last resort. Happiness is happiness regardless of what race it comes from. Besides race is pretty much an artificial construct to begin with.

Re: Black People Aren't Marketable In International Markets

I completely agree with you that this is basically a part of a BIGGER Hollywood marketing scheme, where they determine reality by creating the one that they want people to digest.

Re: Black People Aren't Marketable In International Markets

I think one of the reasons is that one can find prejudice all over the world. The style of European colonization of the world and the type of racism that has existed in the US for the last four hundred or so years has had an affect internationally. It is basically like saying that African descended people have been getting about four hundred or more years of bad press. At some point people start beleiving the hype especially when it has been so consistant and organized.

I think it also depends on how many people of African descent actually live in said coutries. If there are very few and if they are not seen on a regular basis in he media I think that is when the four hundred years of bad press kicks in with nothing visual to stand against it. Said people, in said countries, even if they are not by any form of definition connected to the concept of whiteness, may in some way still see themselves as wanting to connect with that concept of white since it is powerful and exotic to them, while the concept of black is more foreign and not an image of power that they want to identify with.

It is interesting that, for example, when Will Smith came to Israel it was a big thing. When he went to the Western Wall it was off the charts. By like token the Black Eyed Peas are very big here. Yet, at the same time Israeli media chases VERY hard at trying to potray itself as Western Media, which influences the media here to do anything it can to look like America or Europe in place of being purely Middle Eastern. This trend can be found in a number of countries here in the Middle East, i.e. a trend of wanting to identify with whiteness, or at least the media tailored version of it, even when such a concept is foreign and most of the people can't meet such criteria.

The only solution that I see is if non-Hollywood (such as the million dollor athletes) types with money to make films work closely with the media of various countries to invest in their media outlets. Also, in places where there are few African descended people to start making connections with world media and pumping in the type of media.

Re: Tomorrow kicks off Black History Month in the United Kingdom

Thanks.

Re: Tomorrow kicks off Black History Month in the United Kingdom

I have recently started doing videos on YouTube on a group of topics for an initiative I am calling A Month of Positive Solutions (A.M.O.P.S.).
