I understand what Title II entails.

Furthermore, I also agree that natural monopolies are involved. I wouldn't say it's the ISPs in general, though, but rather the physical network infrastructure they operate. At the very least, I believe the underground conduits and utility poles should be owned publicly--if not by the local government, then by a cooperative. I like the way EPB in Chattanooga has done things, in particular.

I'd like to see Dig Once legislation adopted as well.

Re: FCC's Ajit Pai announces the future of internet regulation is deregulation

Right, I understand that and what the ruling means. It just seemed odd to mention that in an article advocating for Title II common carriers, when that status is what prevents the FTC from enforcing rules against them in the first place.

Considering that the opinion you linked determined the exemption to be status-based rather than activity-based, we might instead want to try getting that changed. Then the FTC would be able to act.

Re: FCC's Ajit Pai announces the future of internet regulation is deregulation

Additionally, the opinion you linked to regarding FTC v. AT&T seems to be contrary to your point. You say:

> ... and moves the responsibility of regulation to the FTC which can't make any rules preventing ISPs from selling your personal information.

However the opinion concludes:

> The common carrier exemption in section 5 of the FTC
Act carves out a group of entities based on their status as
common carriers. Those entities are not covered by section
5 even as to non-common carrier activities. Because AT&T
was a common carrier, it cannot be liable for the violations
alleged by the FTC.

So, because AT&T is considered a common carrier (under Title II), the FTC is limited in how they can act.

Re: FCC's Ajit Pai announces the future of internet regulation is deregulation

Just to play Devil's Advocate:

> But, the only markets in which any of these companies actually have done those things are those where they're seeing new competition _as a result of Title II_.

You claim that Title II resulted in the new competition we've seen, but earlier explain that the competition has been due to:

> The only markets that see any are places in which companies like Google Fiber, municipal projects, and other disruptive competitors enter by taking advantage of Title II regulations.

Yet Google Fiber launched in 2010, began deploying to Kansas City in 2011, and by 2013 had also expanded to Austin and Provo. And as we know, last year (a year after Title II regulations were introduced) they started scaling back to the point where they're no longer expanding to new areas. So perhaps Google Fiber is a poor example?

Re: Weekend poll: Pixel or Pixel XL?

As a developer, I'll be writing them off as a business expense anyway; might as well get both.

Re: It's official: Google publishes teaser video for October 4th event with obvious phone allusion

I posted this last night: http://www.androidpolice.co...

Re: It's official: Google publishes teaser video for October 4th event with obvious phone allusion

The website source has two "extra" photos, both links and attached versions here in case they disappear.

https://madeby.google.com/s...

https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

https://madeby.google.com/s...

https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Re: [Update: 20GB Cap Added To Data Stash] T-Mobile Hiked The Prices Of Its Data Plans Yesterday, Didn't Really Say Anything About It During Uncarrier Event

The price per GB went down, though.

Re: Latest Moto G Leak Is A Fairly Long Promotional Video That Shows Off IPX7 Water Resistance, Answers More Questions About The Upcoming Phone

USB-C is a hardware feature, it has nothing to do with software.

Re: New T-Mobile Family Plan Promo Offers 4 Lines With 10GB Of Data Each For $120

I'll be happy when T-Mobile's pressure finally forces AT&T and Verizon to get rid of the silly shared data bucket approach and offer unlimited plans again.
