I didn't see Rushmore when it was first out, but I saw it last year. I had no reaction, really. I felt Max was a dick and entirely unrelateable. I enjoyed the scene where he broke down into tears, which I'm pretty sure was not the intent. I thought Bill Murray was good but other than that I didn't pick up on any of the joy that other people with similar tastes to me seem to find in that film. And I consider myself a fan of Wes Anderson, and was moved, possibly even fascinated by The Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Limited.

On a similar note, I also saw Napolean Dynamite for the first time last year (I used to get the two films confused before I had seen either of them) and I enjoyed that a lot more; as much as I expected to given other people's reactions. Still not very relateable, but at least it was funny and had a charming atmosphere.

I still have the flyer in my drawer for an Edinburgh Rock Riot gig: Seneka - Epic 26 - Smoked Glass - We Were Promised Jetpacks - The One Day Sepakers (my band) - Kudos (my mate's band)

Weirdly, We Were Promised Jetpacks were the only band I hadn't heard of. Think they had just changed their name. The used to be... The Winkles? Or something like that.

This was Dec 2006.

Also, check out Epic 26, 'cause even they I think they're dicks personally, they're the Scottish band everyone is talking about just now.

I guess I would have to listen to it on better speakers with a CD to get a proper listen but the fact that the guy sounds like Kings of Leon turns me of a LOT. Singers like Caleb Followill and Paulo Nutini are, to my ears, bathed in unsympathetic faux-emotionality that leaves me feeling empty, and this singer just sounds the same.

While you are right about the guitar and the mix, they would need a new singer before I would enjoy this band.
