It is remarkable that with all these threats, people still risk their lives to come here. Is this that much better than where they are? Secondarily I wonder if any of those who want to be part of the Trump administration are thinking they can do more good "inside," e.g., Schindler's list.

Re: Nomadic Politics: Time to Welcome in the New Year!

That could be where the "she's" are coming from. In going back to read things I wrote at the ends of years, I'm finding a pattern. With age (I'm now 83) the physical challenges become greater, and just getting up in the morning can be an accomplishment. But, I am finding the last two years seem to have been start overs for me. I would like to share my epiphanies. In 2022 I started a project in a new field, paleoanthropology. I decided to write a book that would explain what I am learning in this area. I share my "chapters" with a group that meets biweekly.
None of the members of this group are scientists, so I have found I am diving back into basics of chemistry, genetics, scientific publication, etc. I'm experiencing the same thrills I have had as a student and a teacher. I have declared 2030 as the publication year, so I'm not in a hurry to finish the book, just get on to the next chapter.
In 2023 I realized I was getting lonely. My long time partner had died in 2019, and it was time to stop going out for meals by myself. So I signed up for a dating site on line. It seemed to be well monitored, and the protections were in place. Within a week I met a very nice man, and we're still going out on a weekly basis and communicating daily by email. Our backgrounds are very different, but we agree on politics and values. It is very interesting getting to know someone completely new, and it's nice to have a companion who can drive at night. (I never imagined that would be in my criteria for companionship.)
I'm wondering what new discovery awaits in 2024. I challenge my fellow Nomads to find a compelling interest in something new to make this a special year.

Re: Nomadic Politics: Merry Christmas From Nomadic Politics

Some people will believe anything.

Re: Nomadic Politics: Merry Christmas From Nomadic Politics

What is this ESG that is taking meat?
