Stabilized smallmouth and goby populations are a good sign, despite the decrease in angling success. Also good to know people are Jingle Bells alone out there. I might spend some time chasing him the first Sunday in May :)

Re: Foodie Blog: Savory Simple

Glad to hear! Would love to do a dawn fish on Saturday or Sunday, or dusk on Saturday.

If that works, let me know. Bet we could talk Jude and Paul into it as well.

Re: A Milestone for the WNY Kayak Fishing Association

Chris: Sorry I missed this question.

I hate answers like "it depends", but it depends :) If you were only going to fish big water, I would suggest at least a 14 foot kayak. However, i have fished small streams and Lake Ontario from a 12' Native Manta Ray.

Canadice and Hemlock are both very manageable from a 12' footer. I would definitely suggest a sit on top model over a sit in model for fishing. Just so much easier to keep stuff in arms reach, and they are very, very stable.

Re: A spring treat

Thanks for dropping by, Taylor.

We are going to try to get some other detailed information on the species found in Western New York. Especially pike, since they're my favorite.

I appreciate your info you posted here. I'm going to look into that a bit, because it's the first of heard of the ethonol causing pike to fail in replacing their teeth. If that's true, we need to do something about it for sure.

And don't get me started on jet skiers :)

Re: Pike Fishing From A Kayak – Stories Made to be Told

Haven't seen the pic yet Andrew. What forum did you post it on?

As for big pike, I wonder why there is such a lack of 40+ inchers these days.

Forage in most places i've been is good. They most be getting out eaten by something.

Re: Kayak Fishing Rights on Posted Waterways

Well, letter of the law (by NY State standards), you should be able to paddle it. HOWEVER, a No Boats posting is different than a Posted sign in many respects.

I wouldn't risk it without calling someone about it first.

Re: Kayak Fishing Rights on Posted Waterways

Generally, at least here in NY State, some reservoirs will prohibit boat traffic, especially if they are smaller and are primarily used as a drinking water supply. And no boats means no boats. You might need to portage around it.

In the case you're thinking of, is the reservoir formed by a dam on an otherwise navigable stream/river?

Re: Top 5 Father’s Day Gifts for Kayak Fishing Under $50

Excellent point, Andrew.
