As little consolation as it may present, take heart in knowing very few people know what to do or where to start.

It may seem silly but why not "test drive" some of the things you may feel a passion for. You mention some of them above.

Why not take an art class? What's the worst that can happen - you spends a little money and lose a few hours time. Best case however is you find your passion and transform your current life.

Social groups are something I have thought about - but I am not that social and I am not sure where to find them.

Don't lose heart. Not everyone is head over heals or completely miserable.
The simple act of writing is a cathartic experience worthy of the time.
But then you know that.
