And I'm a longtime progressive, independent, voting mostly Dem over the years, but since '63 thought Dems have lost their way. Candidates: Dukasis, Mondale, Clinton, Obama, really not my cup of tea. McGovern only sane one in many years...shows the complete and utter sell out of Dem party. Presidents are not elected, they are chosen. And since JFK, one can see why. If one can't see the Russian meddling story is direct ploy by the military-industrial-Congressional-media complex then one is asleep at the wheel of a dying Empire.

Dems cooked this in '72 with formation of SuperDelegates, so they would never again nominate a progressive like Geo. McGovern. They obviously aren't going to give this up. Unless....dare I say, Hillary loses Penn, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and Wisc....As Robert Reich just said recently, the "Middle" is gone. Dems with Wall St. Banks, Military on their side, can only go there. This will be hopefully, the end of the moderate Dems and get out of the way for the real progressives. But we are going to live through chaos. Again. Dems will lose the Senate with Hillary/Kaine. The TPP will pass. And we'll hear all over again..."move to the middle." Well, kiddos it ain't there anymore. The Revolution of populism is here, the Republican style or the Dem style. One is fascism, the other progressive, liberal and a much better choice.

Pretty much agree with below writers who say the Democratic Party must be torn down in its current phase. With electoral fraud, ballots not being counted, independents not able to vote in primaries, etc. etc. ...not a good chance the Dems can be reformed. I've voted Dem in every presidential election save one...in California where a Nader vote didn't freakin' matter, thank you. Third party? Yes, an independent progressive, liberal party who stands up for people, human rights, no more wars for profit, expose 9/11 for what it was....etc. etc. Way to go Bernie. He's been the catalyst we all needed. Not the ideal candidate but damn close. Get Senators elected who see the writing on the wall....the corporate Dems need to go. Let them merge with the Republican conservatives and see what happens.

Same old story...war profiteering...Israel's interests, got that right, Robert. But you're leaving out the BIG GIANT ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM...I think by asking, "Why" and not mentioning, even just the possibility, (understated) that 9/11 was THE reason the US was able to do the invasion of Iraq. Could not have happened without 9/11. Who benefitted the most from 9/11? Certainly, not the Arab nations now in ruin. Again, how can you ask "why?" and not confront the obvious? All of your other evidence points to certain involvement of the war machine in the events of 9/11...why do you dodge it in this thesis? Combined with the complete take down of very basic Constitutional rights, Guantanamo, torture, extra renditions, you name it...all came about because of 9/11. As long as America continues to somehow deny that elements of the military and our government, and other international banking interests were not involved in making sure a "new Pearl Harbor" happened, there is no way, we could have gone into Iraq

David Icke is right. These are blood thirsty animals, we're dealing with. In decent times, Cheney, Rumsfield, Bush, all of them would be lined up in the square and dangling from a rope. We have a death cult operating our military and higher eschelons of government, intelligence, etc.

Great discussion of such incriminating evidence of coverup of something much larger. On this point, I believe that saying that the warning to Congress not to investigate 9/11 and let alone this thing about interrogation of prisoners is just so that they wouldn't see that they tortured them for confessions....and that the torture would be a problem is missing the bigger point and picture of the coverup.

I believe and many do, that they reason they needed to coverup this part of the investigation specifically, is that the world would see that they are false confessions, brought by torture, thus exposing the real perpetrators, the people who are doing the torturing. Nice fix. Torture the prisoners to confess, then make sure nobody can talk to them or see the tapes. You've got your patsies. Tortured, now, instead of having to off them (see Lee Harvey Oswald)...they're covered. Until someone can see the tapes and start connecting the "coverup dots."

Are we to believe that 9/11 wasn't either allowed to happen or totally perpetrated by Cheney, Rumsfield and most specifically the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with the cigar smoker who retired, (oh, shoot, what's his name) and conveniently disappeared almost immediately after 9/11.

Look, no one was fired. No one disciplined for what would be the greatest failure in US history for protecting the Pentagon, etc. If no one was fired. Then the ones who pulled it off did their jobs and wouldn't be fired for it. See the financial bailout, and Moyers PBS with Keller the other day. No one got fired. In fact, they all got raises. Same with 9/11. They all got promoted. Look it up. FAA, Norad, all of them. No one lost their job. It's the best test of a coverup.

History tells us that scoundrels hide in obvious places. For Cheney, Rumsfield and Tenet to say, don't investigate 9/11. Don't look too close, it's obvious it's not just worry about torture memos, tapes, etc. It's what's in them. If the "confessions" turn out to be from torture, the whole 9/11 mystery unfolds.

War profiteering is there. The evidence is there for an independent commission, or, if Obama and Holder really were bold, a fresh look at the whole shebang! Wouldn't that be revolutionary?

Oh, yeah. The "farmers earned $1 billion"....yesh, right. I'm sure they're buying condos in Brentwood as we speak! This money is not going to them. Duh. How much do you think they really make on a crop? Pennies on the dollar I'm sure. Where's the money going? Let's see. Read "The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia" by Alfred McCoy for a start of Gary Webb's book on the subject. Stories like these make for good propoganda but no real substance of where the money goes....Follow the money and you'll see that it's not the Afghan warlords or farmers making that money, but guess who? ..... Speculation encouraged.
