What a pity he felt in the second stage otherwise he'd be a GC contender.

I hope Egan Bernal, Rigo and Quintana stay in the fight.

Re: Our own private Idaho: the landscape of discovery

Nevermind, I found it: https://www.orucase.com/
Review from CT here: https://cyclingtips.com/new...

Re: Our own private Idaho: the landscape of discovery

Great story. I ended up getting the 13. It is 300gr heavier than the 11 but still very portable. Battery live is better also.
Make sure you go and try them in the store.

Re: Why the MBA 11 is now my sole computer

Thanks for the post Salvatore.

I remember asking you via twitter about the MBP11. After your comments I decided to go to the apple store and tried it out. I got really impressed. It was totally possible to code comfortably. The main reasons immo? First, the great quality of the screen. I own myself a 2 year old MBP13 and the difference in quality was huge. It still is with the newer version of the MBP. The second reason is the keyboard. It has a great typing feeling.

Then I tried the MBA13. It was also great. I remember feeling the screen much bigger than it was when switching from the 11 inches.
I had mixed feelings.

I spend most of my time in the console (iterm2/vim/bash/openssh) and browser(chrome). I do some preview also to read papers. But that's it. One of the things I didn't like (I still don't) is how the OS forces you to use spaces if you maximize a window.

I was taking advantage of the full screen mode in snow leopard, but now in lion, if you do that, you get your own space or whatever is called.
Then when switching to another application apple punishes you with a painfully slow animation. It doesn't seem possible to tweak it to make
the animation disappear. It was possible in snow leopard.

The solution for me has been avoiding the full screen mode so all the apps are in one space. The downside of that is that I lose some real state
because of the menu bar.

I purchased the i7 with the 256SDD. I can't complain about the performance. One of the first things I did was to compile all my macports collection
(https://gist.github.com/125... while I was doing some development. I think it took about two hours and I didn't notice any hiccup while coding.
The fan was spinning like crazy though.

I also noticed that the machine does not run particularly hot, something I appreciate, specially when using the laptop in my lap.

Another interesting feature in the new airs is the thunderbolt display. I thought I was not going to care but I recently got my hands in a thunderbolt
27 inches display that I use while I am in the office. I connect the ethernet cable and usbs to the monitor and plug the air via the thunderbolt.
I use a bluetooth apple keyboard which is nice since the layout is exactly the same as in the air (aren't you smart apple?). When I plug my laptop
I just have to connect the thunderbolt and the power adaptor (this one comes out directly from the monitor also).

Re: 3 Presentations on R: Data Mining, Web Development and Data Visualization

Is it possible that the link to the second video is incorrect?

Re: Formatting text with par

Ah beautiful.. great tip.

I had a suggestion for your incoming screencasts (hopefully many more to come).

I think the community would benefit from seeing your interactions with vim while you are doing basic/real tasks (coding for example). Each thread process its file and writes the data from the different transactions in a tmp output dir. Once all the threads are
done processing the input files we can go ahead and merge the tmp files and generate the
final results, that's files containing all the records per each transaction.

Re: Ruby Best Practices - First Design Considerations

Robert,

It is great to be able to follow your developing process. Thanks for taking the time to work on this.

It seems we are going to have to keep all the data in memory until we process all the transaction files. We could run out of memory pretty fast under certain circumstances.
