One element that I think is missing on Facebook Local Services is a multi-location feature. For example : Physical therapist or Medical Private Practice that has multiple locations in a geo centric locale (Three separate addresses, three locations in a region). Same business- different locations.....I don't see a way to add more than one location which would complicate efforts via Social. Does that mean creating Three separate FB pages? That seems unrealistic and unnecessary. What would you recommend?

Re: Why And How To Build An Audience – Long Before You Got A Product

Enjoyed this article. I think the area I get stuck with sometimes is building the email list and wondering if the lead magnet (white paper etc) is strong enough to compel a reader or the traffic I do receive to opt-in....I guess there is only one way to find out and try. Perhaps the question I should ask myself is.."Would I opt-in to receive this?"

Re: 142: Why job security is BS (and how to leave your 9 to 5)

Wow! I really enjoyed this post and the way you presented the steps here. Seems so clean and straightforward although you clearly indicate that there were bumps and setbacks / frustrations along the way. Nonetheless, having a map and plan can help minimize those very steps.

I'd like to share my decision day if it will add some value.

I spent 23 years in Health Care / Medicine as a Hyperbaric Wound Care Nurse. It can be very taxing and traumatic to see people at their worst day (Gun Shot Wounds, Burns, diabetic wounds etc) in and day out for years on end.

Around the advent of the iPhone and SDK (software development kit), I saw an opportunity to help diabetic patients with technology and decided to create an app that helped diabetics track their blood glucose / sugar levels, meals, activities etc. After publishing it and seeing the app enjoy several thousand downloads (over 27K) in the first few weeks, I realized my time in the clinical setting (sometimes 16-18 hours daily), was over....especially being able to touch the lives of countless people....more so than I ever could in a hospital.

I made the decision to go out on my own and start my own business. The day came when I had to inform my supervisor, who was not a nice person, that I needed to speak with her. So she called me into the office and there were several physicians and co-workers in the room. She declined my request for privacy for the meeting so I told her I had some good news and some bad news.

She assumed the bad news and guessed I was resigning / leaving and proceeded to ask me what the good news was....to which I replied "I just saved $500 on my Car Insurance by switching to GEICO!!!".

As if I dropped the Mic and to the astonishment and delight of the Physicians and my peers (who had several of the jaws in the dropped position), I walked out (mentally high-fiving myself and nearly ready to pass out from what I just did).

I don't necessarily condone that spontaneity but there is something to be said for declaring Independence and / or 'Burning the Ships' as Cortez is alleged to have said.

Fast forward a few years in app development and membership site / digital publishing, and the 23 years in healthcare are a blur....and yes the security of a job is BS!

Thanks for this post Kate! I do favor unconferences for many reasons but discovery and networking are two elements that I find to be most appealing. Although it is an all-day event, the one draw-back is that I'm left wanting more....in a good way. I think there should be more opportunity and time to discover more sessions and hear from more presenters.

Looking forward to hearing and reading more from you MaryKate!

Re: 13 Instagram Marketing Tips From the Experts

I really enjoy Instagram and experiencing the possibilities of the platform as a marketing tool is simply exciting! The intimacy of the size and proximity of the class is unique. Sharing an image of the both of you with one another is much more meaningful than the obligatory 'Happy Birthday' stock response that contributes to the Facebook Inbox Violation that happens yearly. I confess that Facebook serves as an excellent reminder of other's Birthdays. I try to share something of mutual appreciation or humor (Like a Birthday Video wish from Darth Vader, Jesus or some celebrity type) to mix it up a bit. Making the extra effort to send a Voice Text, Candy Gram (who doesn't appreciate a Candy Gram?), drop off Pizza by way of a drone would be ideal. Ultimately, I think if one can creatively or with proximity make the gesture to wish another a Happy Birthday, it makes it a bit more memorable and thus appreciative (another matter entirely). It will be interesting to see how the Apple Watch and other devices / services enable creative apps and methods to express communication ( Birthday Wishing, Taptic Secret Agent Morse Code, Using The Force to Telepathically deliver a special message or sending in BB-6 Astro-Droid dressed as a Clown to Beep out a Happy Birthday Jingle). All this to say, ways of recognizing another on their Special Day comes in all shapes, sizes, and methods. Putting some thought behind it makes it memorable. Sharing your message with others is another way! Happy Birthday C.C.!

Re: When Kids Get Their First Smartphones

Love it C.C.! I can definitely relate with three daughters in our family. Another reason that I consider implementing the technology is to allow them to tinker and develop on mobile platforms. Aside from the data plans responsibility, remaining vigilant of their app habits and interaction with those applications is another layer to consider.Instagram drama (when a friend is 'supposedly' not doing anything or 'can't get together' but is then discovered hanging out with someone else has led to many teaching moments in our house) and contextual reasoning is an entirely different ordeal with mobile. Sometimes having to have a decoder ring to decipher text conversations seems like a full time job. I wonder how many mobile phone related behavioral scenarios occur among households.....mobile addictions? I know that my co-dependency on my iPhone is incredulous.
