I'm so sorry about your loss and I mean it when I say that I know that it feels like. I lost my english bulldog, Obi-wan Kenobi, exactly two weeks ago today. It's been two weeks that feel like an eternity. I hope that Polly helps alleviate some of the pain, though he'll forever be in your heart. You were both so lucky to have found one another and lucky to have spent 11 wonderful years together.

I totally remember the day all my stuff arrived as well. I, too, blogged about bc I felt so happy, so complete. It was like Christmas except with a treasure trove if your own stuff. Congrats!!

Es impresionante que existe gente que opina lo que opinas tu. Los animales en Chile también merecen preocupación y recursos. Hasta cuando este país es tan exageradamente anticuado en cuanto la noción de protección de animales? Deben de aprender un poco de países mas desarrollados. Feliz daría dinero a un causa como esta antes de Un Techo para Chile adonde dan muchos mas.

I find this could be true about mom's in Ximena's socio economic class ... but your point that one has to APPLY for said funding means the moms need to 1) have the need 2) recognize the need and recognized the solution and 3) applied for the solutions. I couldn't say it any better than you - a mom who does all three is NOT a mom who is a doozy madre. Maybe Ximena herself should consider the fact that she has 9 children (hi, overpopulated world!!! Care much??) and that she has 4 nannies. Where is HER role in the home? I mean aside from delegating to the 4 nannies, obviously.
Geez, more and more I think having a kid in Chile is a total cacho. And it sounds like it's for the birds.

After a year here I don't feel comfortable leaving Providencia. I hope to reach some level of comfort in my life here as I'd like to know about comunas outside my own. Great job for venturing out though! Seriously, baby's got balls! :o)
