Many individual cities provide everything: planning, building, fire, police, law and justice, neighborhood support, code enforcement, etc. Look at Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Renton, Vancouver, Spokane, etc. In my opinion their efforts are more generally successful than a county's because they are able to be more directed. No system is perfect, don't get me wrong. Kitsap County has been behind the times for decades because it only has a governing board of 3 commissioners to handle all of the final decisions. For 200,000 people? That's plain stupid.

Kitsap County is a lost cause in my opinion. Port Orchard is absorbing McCormick Woods, Bremerton is absorbing SKIA, Silverdale must incorporate sooner or later.... The county employees should be running for the lifeboats soon! Hope you have watertight clothing, county employees. Oh, and 2-X sizes for those of you who need it (LOL).

It figures. South Kitsap Fire and Rescue is about to ask for a tremendous rate hike and they close down their website. I'm in the middle of a sea of non-enlightenment. Guess I'll vote NO.

I agree with Fire Marshal Lynam; MAKE SURE your some alarms have working batteries and are in good working order. Even if it takes you 15 minutes to check and a 30 minute visit to the store for fresh batteries, you're saving yourself weeks and weeks of regret if something happens. Additionally, renters should have renters insurance. It's cheap and will save you years of regret if a fire breaks out in which the building you live and damages your belongings. Do not move into an apartment complex or a duplex without renter's insurance.

I have found nothing on any South Kitsap website which literally documents the specific wages earned by persons or persons classified in various job categories in SOUTH KITSAP FIRE AND RESCUE. Tell me, just to educate me, what does Chief Senter earn in one year through salary and fees? PLEASE, anyone? Wayne??

Educate the public for heaven's sake.

I'm curious about Jan Angel's stamce on "everything but marriage" bill for domestic partners. She's published nothing whatsoever along lines of comments for this important matter. What's she doing? Trying to rename an inamimate object called "The Narrows Bridge". Is that a good use of taxpayers' time? Hello?

Hmmm. I'll vote for the levy continuation after the district voluntarily publishes on it's website a schedule of the personnel and their exact salaries and benefits. Fair enough? It will cost the district comparatively little and "put it on the table" as far as the compensations being received by staff. Wayne?

I hope that the gas utility contractor is appropriately billed for the entire repair cost. It won't happen, but they should be required to bear the bill for the lost service to the public, too. There's no reasonable excuse for such bungling behavior.

Sounds like POPD needs to make a more emphasized presence in the downtown area of Port Orchard at night. I mean, it doesn't sound like these disruptive actions are occurring during lunchtime daylight hours, does it? City of Port Orchard? Mayor? Councilmembers? Anyone? Anyone?

I agree, Mr. Meadows. Just look at Seattle and King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties. Between Metro, Sound Transit and Pierce Transit, those communities are driving ahead hard and fast to create the transportation infrastructure to support the growth. Kitsap County? Nothing. Does Kitsap County deserve more funding for ferries? Perhaps not. The majority of the population in the county does not appear interested in it.

If Kitsap's residents are only interested in the bucolic lifestyle and mediocre ferry service to Seattle, let it be. No one from the other side is actually interested in coming to Kitsap, are they?

The bills are not gay marriage bills. They are bills to establish the same rights for domestic partners as for married men and women. It's about equality of rights, which the federal constitution guarantees for every citizen of the United States of America. If you are against these bills, why do you feel that one group of citizens is entitled to rights and another group is not? Don't quote the Bible, Koran or anything else. I'm talking about rights, not religious beliefs.

Alaskans also understand the need for a statewide marine transportation system. Washington State citizens do not, and I must believe that they never will, where waterway transportation is regarded as a luxury rather than a necessity. This will ultimately sever the peninsula from the "Seattle side" unless the peninsula population supports (strongly) a voter-driven measure to support ferries. As the economy in the West Sound is supported by military government funding, everyone living here had better pray that the military continues to support the brunt of things. No other industry will.

She's a bit lackluster in her legislation so far. No economic solutions; instead, she wants sex offenders to wear GIS transmitters and wants "respectful" language in state language. Not bad ideas, but what're they doing for this self-destructing economy? She's an ostrich, burying her head in the sand of good intentions. Good try, Jan, but no dice.

I agree, Karen. But, then again, let's be realistic. The county is undergoing a shrinking process; POrt Orchard will annex a major taxation district portion of the county and it's only a matter of time before Silverdale incorporates and becomes a self-taxing and sustaining city. This will render Kitsap County without a good deal of it's current revenue and significance in the scheme of things. The commissioners will probably try to preempt these from occurring as it is in human nature to maintain as much power as possible. As Lord Acton said, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely". No human has ever been born or will be born that this does not apply to. Not a single one.
