And from the language that Smartypup used to convey his/her sentiments I can't help but wonder if he/she has ties to the healthcare industry. This entity has the talking points down pat.

Re: The Lewin Group’s Analysis of the July 15 Draft of The American Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

We have already given up control of our healthcare to profit-driven corporations. They are already making decisions about your healthcare that are based on increasing those profits, period. I, too, want take our country back-from these greed-oriented thieves. WE THE PEOPLE ARE the government, remember? NOT the corporations who are dispensing misinformation to retain control over what is for them an extremely lucrative industry. Be careful what you wish for.

Re: The Lewin Group’s Analysis of the July 15 Draft of The American Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

I have only one word in reply to your comment:
Bullsh*t.

Re: The Lewin Group’s Analysis of the July 15 Draft of The American Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

Not true. Tort reform is necessary-but is is NOT what drives up the cost of medical insurance. This is what the insurance industry wants you to believe (since there is nothing they would like better than to cap jury awards) but it isn' t true.. The Bush administration found ways to curtail such litigation and it had no affect on overall costs at all. In fact, they went UP. I used to believe as you do that predatory lawyers were the problem-but while they are a contributing factor they are NOT the source of the problem. When I did the research I found that it is predatory and profit-driven insurance companies that are the problem. (And bear in mind that the Lewin Group-the source of the info in this article-is owned by the insurance industry. Look it up.)
As far as personal wellness is concerned, you are correct. Preventative measures would dramatically decrease the cost of healthcare. But I have worked for years in the healtcare industry, including several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield-and believe me when I tell you that for years the industry not only didn't encourage this-some elements-namely, but not exclusively, Big Pharma- actively opposed it, because treating sick people is far more profitable that preventing illness. Look up the observations of Wendell Potter and Dr. Howard Dean on this issue. They are spot on.

Re: The Lewin Group’s Analysis of the July 15 Draft of The American Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

Before anyone rushes to judgement bear in mind that this report was provided by a so-called "non-partisan think tank"( the Lewin Group) that is in fact owned by the insurance industry. As someone who has worked in the healthcare industry, including medical insurance, I can state categorically that the information from this report-and in fact most, if not all, of the information being dispensed by the Republican party on this issue are demonstrable lies intended to maintain the status quo. The observations of Wendell Potter and Dr. Howard Dean on this issue are spot on, and anyone who is not familiar with their comments should hear what they have to say before making any decisions about this critical issue.

Re: birther movement continues

Breaking News! I have it on good authority that George W. Bush is NOT a citizen. He is actually from the planet Doofus and was on a reconnaissance mission prior to invasion. The proof is out there for all to see on any number number of websites that get their information directly from God. (Those sites also offer a great price on tinfoil hats.) My mind is made up so don't try to convince me with facts.

Re: birther movement continues

Following your logic the citizenship of everyone in government-and everyone else, for that matter-is open to question.
It isn't likely that any kind of conditions would satisfy the perpetrators of this distraction since most, if not all, don't believe in its substance themselves.

Re: birther movement continues

The definition of "natural born citizen" includes someone who is born to an American citizen anywhere in the world. That makes Obama an American citizen no matter WHERE he was born. Every schoolchild knows this (at least I learned it in grade school-I have no idea what they're teaching now). SInce Obama's birth certificate is in the public record this idiotic questioning is beyond ridiculous-it can only be construed as an attempt to divide and conquer. I find it reprehensible that the neocons are doing whatever they can to be obstructionist at a time when the need for unity is urgent if we are to solve the pressing problems the we are facing. It seems they would see they would rather see the country go down the tubes thna relinquish one iota of power.
And why is there never any mention of the fact that John McCain was born in Panama?

Re: Tea Parties

You still insist that your comments are all "fact". Why? None of the sources that you have cited are any more credible than others-and considerably less than some. You amply illustrated my observation that most rightwingers seem absolutely convinced that only they have the truth, from some unfounded sense of superiority. And you state that your bigotry is justified because of your perception that every one else is guilty of it too? I have expressed NO such sentiments in any of my comments-my anger at what the Neocons have done to this country is NOT bigotry. And I know perfectly well what Helen Thomas said-but she did NOT compare the situation to the Nazis. No one controlled the media more than Bush/Cheney/Rove (that was actually Rove's department) but Helen may not have been aware of that because Bush banned her from the White House (how's THAT for control?)If you don't think the MSM isn't conservatively controlled do the research. Follow the money.
I never once mentioned Ayers-you can't even keep who you're responding to straight-and I did NOT bash any religion-which is more than you can claim--but I WAS pointing out that any perusal of history shows that Christianity has as much violence and killing and intolerance as any other-and there are plenty of modern radical-right Christians that practice violence and bigotry. The fact that you "don't know of" any doesn't mean they don't exist-or are you admitting that there is something you don't know? And you are equally ignorant of Islam if you think that all of Islam is about killing-the vast majority of its followers do NOT condone violence and deplore what the radical extremists have done to their religion-in the same way that most Christians do not sanction what the radical-right Christians have done to theirs ( Bush called them "wackos"-even as he courted them for their votes). As far what as what Rove said, you just stated you never heard of the man until last year and it's clear you know next to nothing about him so how the hell would you know what he said or didn't say? And why do you keep bringing up Counterpunch? It was hardly the only thing I cited-and I already stated that I don't accept ANYTHING as gospel-as apparently you do. (Actually I don't think much of Counterpunch but I think that particular article is spot on and I don't see what you can find to object to in it. It's pretty much the sum total of a lot of what you have been saying.)
And how DARE you call me an "American-Hater-or a "religion basher"? I have never expressed anything of the sort in any of my comments, but you can't seem to keep who you're insulting straight. I consider it a slanderous insult of the highest order and it's a judgement you have no right to make. But I guess you just hurl the same invective at everyone who disagrees with you.
YOU are the one who seems to be saturated with hatred and intolerance, it is attitudes like YOURS that could destroy us all-and you need not respond because you obviously aren't interested in discussion anyway-you just want to insult everyone who doesn't think like you and you refuse to entertain any point of view but your own, or admit that you could possibly be wrong about anything.

Re: Tea Parties

What sources would you consider credible? (The rightwing rag that you posted? With an article by an ultraconservative who tends to mix editorializing with fact? That's my opinion but it is no less valid than yours.) And did you even read the articles and the dates they were written? If I were going to stoop the level of making sweeping generalizations as you have done continously I would point out the you are pretty typical of right wingnuts who are absolutely convinced that they, and ONLY they, are in possession of the truth-and anything that refutes it is lies. Based on what? How much research do YOU actually do before forming your opinions?
I don't consider ANY source as gospel-I DO read, I always have, constantly and try to ascertain the truth from everything I have read-something you don't appear to do since your comments are peppered with so much misinformation. It isn't easy to do with so much misinformation out there, and is further complicated by the Republican efforts to control the media.
http://www.sourcewatch.org/...
Find out how the Republicans have been manipulating the media-and public opinion-since the Nixon days. It seems to be the only thing they learned from Watergate. Notice the similarity to Nazi propaganda techniques. For that matter, read up on Karl Rove (Bush's Brain" and "The Architect" by James Moore and Wayne Slater-that is, if you read books) and see how he used Nazi-like techniques to crush the opposition. Rove has stated that he admires the tactics of Joseph Goebbels. (Goebbels could have written Rove's playbook-in fact, he probably did. Do the research.) Speaking of Nazis, you might read this:
http://www.oldamericancentu...
As for-name-calling, I have not stooped to that-certainly not to the level of ugliness and invective that appears in every comment you make. It's ironic that you have touted the religious freedom in the US and then proceed to display utter intolerance and spout hate-venom against any religion that isn't Christian-as if Christianity weren't as full of "hate and killing" as Islam or any other religion-and if you had ever read anything that resembles history you would know that.(That fact that you think that Obama is a Muslim shows that you don't.) I could provide historical sources but you would no doubt dismiss them as "leftist lies" are some other such knee-jerk BS because evidently you think that God talks only to you.
YOU should look in the mirror. You have accused almost everyone here of bigotry, and intolerance-but go back and read your own posts and tell us how they aren't redolent of both. (I would add ignorance to that list but it would be pointless since you are obviously convinced that you know everything.)
YOU should read.

Re: Tea Parties

BUSH did that-or more accurately Cheney, since that corporate pirate pretty much dictated economic policy.
http://www.larouchepub.com/...
http://www.counterpunch.org...
http://www.thenation.com/do...
Cheney should be sitting in a cell next to Madoff.

Re: Tea Parties

I have been "paying attention" for a long time-and I bet it's longer than you have been on this earth. I didn't suddenly become aware because of these "parties". I have seriously protesting the abuses of government for the better part of my life. BOTH parties have been guilty of irresponsible behavior but the worst abuses have occurred under REPUBLICANS. The "runaway spending, overblown government and trampling of our constitution" were hallmarks of the Bush administration. Why didn't you have your parties then? And Republicans who are largely responsible for this mess will not accept one shred of responsiblity for any of it-THEY are the ones who are playing the blame game- their main focus is trying to shift all of the blame to the Democrats, and THEY are the ones that are being obstructionist instead of trying to find solutions. I am troubled by a lot of Obama's decisions and I don't hesitate do make my feelings known-I badger my congressmember constantly and I am very involved in the process. It is our right and our duty as Americans citizens to be involved in OUR government-something that Bush/Cheney/Rove had absolutely no respect for. Any thinking person knows that there are no quick or easy solutions to any of this but we seem to have a generation that is so used to instant gratification that they expect thirty-odd years of mismanagement, and eight years of UTTER mismanagement to be cleared up in a matter of months. Time only will tell if Obama is on the right track but at least we have a leader who takes his duty to the public trust seriously-something that was NEVER true of Bushco-and being involved is essential to keep such crises from happening again.
Don't lecture me on activism. I have been doing it for a long time.

Re: Tea Parties

Did you express any of this outrage when Bushco was running the country into the ground? He had eight years to bring this country to the brink of disaster, although to be fair a lot of these multiple messes started during the Reagan years. I'm sick of idiots like you who think that these vastly complex problems should be cleared up in a matter of months. Anyone with half a brain knows that there is no quick or easy way out of this mess-and I have yet to hear Bush or ANY Republican take responsibility for any of it-let alone do anything constructive about finding solutions.

Re: Tea Parties

The Republicans keep trying to tout supply-side economics and still keep insisting that it works-in spite of the fact that they cannot point to one example in out country's history where it has. YOu would think that the failure of the last eight years would have put to rest the claims of the supply-siders and the antiregulators once and for all-but all they do is write revisionist history and endlessly spin that it is All the Democrats' Fault. Their credibility is further diminished by their refusla to accept a single shred of responsibility for any of the crises we are facing.
Evidently greed trumps patriotism.

Re: Tea Parties

They want to protest "irresponsible government"? Where were their voices for the last eight years? They are still calling this government socialist? Most of them don't even know what that means, or they would know that it isn't true. The fact that were also calling the current administration "fascist"as well clearly demonstrates their ignorance since you can't have it both ways-and they would also know that the Bush government was the closest thing to fascism this country has ever had.
Republicans seems to hate America. They would rather see the country go down the tubes than relinquish one iota of power. They certainly don't seem to believe in a democracy, since they have shown no inclination to respect the will of the people-all they want to do is manipulate public opinion with ceaseless spin.

Re: The Remaking of a Candidate

I agree-and that makes them dangerous.

Re: The Remaking of a Candidate

She still doen't even know what a VP does!

Re: The Remaking of a Candidate

_Except there isn't anything even remotely Christian about their behavior.

Re: The Remaking of a Candidate

Don't forget Medicare, Social Security and Unemployment-all fully socialized institutions.
