BOE also originated out of Kansas because of our segregated schools. And, the KKK took over the state legislature for awhile until William Allen White stepped in. Some say they're still in charge.... And the Koch brothers! Oh, and my Alma mater North High's mascot is the Redskins. Yikes.

Re: Limbaugh Joins Long List of Infamous Missourians

Listing Rush with the likes of Jesse James certainly wasn't meant to
imply that he was a murderer (although, if you count character
assassinations his body count probably exceeds Jesse's), but to
demonstrate that his reputation is more notorious than distinguished.
I don't hate him. Well, okay, maybe a little. Yeah, hate crazed might
be accurate. Well played, sir.

Re: Liberals Have No Sense of Humor

"and when did it become acceptable to hurl insults about someone's
wight...having been both underweight and overweight, i've found
it interesting that people who go postal over people being insulted for
other things have NO problem with making fun of people for their
weight..."

I guess it's okay to hurl insults when it's not about someone's weight... just their personal beliefs. Much, much better.

Re: Rand Paul Says What?

That certainly would've been a more sophisticated rational answer. Rand really showed his novice status in that interview, but I'm sure he will improve. I thought it was an interesting choice not to appear on Meet the Press and a real mistake. I think it would've been better to go on and say that while he may have expressed his position poorly, he still stands behind the substance of his comments, that government shouldn't regulate, yadda yadda. It would be so much more refreshing to see those kinds of interview instead of the FOX/MSNBC softball interviews. Get Palin on Olbermann and Harry Reid on Hannity. Then we might get somewhere.

Re: Beck’s Very Own “Mein Kampf”

Considering he's shared his ipod playlist with the press, his comments are disingenuous at best. Iraq war? Doesn't draw viewers. You'll notice we haven't seen much of it lately. Barack Obama? Only the biggest story in the history of American politics and a BIG ratings draw. Any News Director worth a salt, in the current media climate, will push that story until it drives viewers away. Simple. It's not a political agenda. That's why you see just as much Palin coverage. She's a big ratings draw, for a lot less noble reason: viewers love to see her screw up. Why do you think SNL is doing so well? The bottom line is: what makes money for the media will drive the news.

Re: Vetting

Not only is there the vetting to be concerned about, but even if they resolve those issues that you mentioned Jed (which I don't know how they will) there are still the confirmation hearings to consider. For a Republican party that's just been seriously wounded, this may be the fight they want to pick as the Clintons are always favorite targets. How much of that crap could they bring up and drag through the mud? Not exactly a stellar start to a Presidency that aims to be different. It may not be fair to Hillary, but is entirely possible.

Re: Lieberman is not the change we need

There seems to be a lot of anger here...

Re: Lieberman is not the change we need

I agree that it poses a problem, but having worked in the Senate you and I both realize how prickly those seniority issues are. If you remove Lieberman do you replace another chair on another committee and reward Lieberman while risking their ire? Biden's out as judiciary chair, but you don't want Lieberman anywhere near your Supreme Court nominees. I just don't see how you solve the problem without kicking him out of the fold altogether. I think your best bet is to keep him on as short a lease as possible with the precondition that one bad move and he's out.

Re: Lieberman is not the change we need

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I think Obama is right to keep Lieberman in the fold. You want numbers in the Senate, and Lieberman wants to get re-elected in Connecticut. He won't go rogue like Palin, and he's very malleable. I doubt Obama will have a hard time lining him up to support him. Liberman is an opportunist at heart, and right now the winds of the country are behind Obama. He's not going to buck that.

Re: Palin Didn't Know Africa Was A Continent, Planning For 2012

Sadly, I wrote as a joke a week ago that it would come out that Palin didn't know all the continents. The amount of racism dripping from the McCain campaign is only appealing to a very small segment of the Republican base and won't do anything to sway votes. It will, however, forever stain the McCain legacy.

Re: The Top Ten Reasons Conservatives Should Vote For Obama

You can count me among the conservatives who regularly read your blog. I gotta say, there's nothing conservative about the Bush Administration and there's absolutely nothing McCain would bring to the table that would even remotely resemble what the ideals of conservatism are supposed to represent. Sullivan has nailed it exactly right. All of my extended family, which includes a former Bush US Attorney, President of the school Board, congressional candidates, etc. are Republicans and they're all voting for Obama. We know an intelligent, thoughtful candidate when we see one and John McCain is not that candidate.
