It is incredible that you were able to provide such an opportunity to so many young travellers and leaders. In Canada we have a program for youth and leadership that is heavily funded by the government but I do not think that it calls forth the amount of personal growth and team work you guys have put into place (and in such a short period of time)
Essentially you have provided a very structured space and code of honour system that then allows people to have fun and experience something exceptional that they will probably always remember. Cool! I work for an interantional organisation that attracts young people from all over the world. Some of them are attracted to Australia. I will certainly pass this info along.

Re: The quality of what you do…

Yes, I certainly think there are a lot of people who do not know about the etiquette. There are also those who are yet to develop an agility at speaking to someone that feels like speaking to oneself as it goes into the time warp of type and then wait...perhaps quite .a while up to never for a response.
Ignoring them is the gamble of choice that remains in your hands. Perhaps you will never meet again or you will find yourselves at another venue. It is your time only that you can structure. You decide when and how you want to invest it. I suppose you could make a personal rule as to how you want to accept or reject a request or you can leave it up to your gut feeling at the time. The thing about living our lives is that we are free to choose whatever rule we want in the moment. I personally like Zanders rule #6...dont take yourself too seriously.

Re: The Pizza Store Dilemma

You are an excellent story teller Simon. What a great way to teach people. I would say that I am perhaps both a jill and a jack at times. If I am in front of a jill, I will certainly be more distrustful and much less generous.
It is a great point to unerline the importance of the relationship. Without it there are no customers or at least repeat customers. When people feel welcomed and cared for and comfortable and valued they will come back and will bring their friends. As John Lester said in his response, it is cheaper than advertising.
It is great of you to care enough about your community to want to offer help to them Simon.

Re: Offer for those who strive to ‘get it’ - welcome to the family

A remarkable challenge...petrifying. Again i am impressed with your insight and perception and amazing ability to articulate it all so well and congruently.

For me being a beginner and a "briefcase goddess"at the same time, your prelaunch and launch became consuming. I spent pretty well all of my disposable free time and more reading and reflecting and learning. The launch then gave me the book which I am still going through and trying to understand so I can apply the knowledge and get in action. My personal interests of course have kicked in. I want to get up to speed and dream of being so much so that I can take you up on your offer of help.

As well, I am also exploring a couple of the people who were in the traffic group. The daily pace before the launch did not permit any of that for me aside from the glimpses through what people commented. As I explore I find cross overs of some of the same people so for me, that is a sign that I am in the midst of where it is good for me to be.

For sure , the suspended tension was released because there was no longer demand on me to do it on a daily basis...is this a cop-out on my part...not sure. Because for some reason you invited me to participate I felt responsible to you. I needed to pay attention to do this.
One insight that the process had was that it was like a course at school that was part study and part lab. It seemed to me that the whole launch was in fact application of all the lessons disected in the book. It was hard to draw the line between lesson and life. I think that is perhaps what life is. You were certainly successful in absorbing us for this time. For me, the intensity was not feasibly long term. There was no real room to process. The time consumption became an issue for my kids.

Another insight as I finish your post in regards to the Geldoff movement...as I am sure I mentioned to you before about a book called "Getting to Maybe"...these big movements that impart social change actually come from a huge call to action. Many hear it, one person stands up and in a flash it is a movement. The individual is not the movement. They were the weak link. The call to action is so BIG that you cannot shut it out. Had Bob decided through orchestration to do the same thing it would not have flown. The call to action pulled him out of his complacent seat and thrust him into acting. He had no resistance

It is probably similar to what drives you personally . At a systems however level there are many who are hearing the call and at the breaking point as one person crosses over the dike overflows....and there is a mass movement. Geldhoff, Balfour Mount, Linda Lundström, Mothers against drunk driving, Muhammad Yunus.

What cry to action are we hearing?

Thanks again Simon
Rebecca Happy

Re: Social Traffic Inc.

Hi,

I am Rebecca Happy and am very happy to be part of this group. I am so glad to see the story here at the beginning in the context of all the preparations. I am so excited to be a part of it and to be invited to contribute and support. My world is being transformed through these global online relationships.

I think this is a great opportunity for newbies and veterans to shift many things. I am very grateful to see that of the three drives, people with disabilities have been put to the forefront in such a massive way. They are in most cases the first to go and be omitted even in the large NGO's. WE all know that in any disaster the strongest will survive. When help arrives and the camps are set up the average 10% of the population that has a disability of sorts are hard to find. When those relief trucks come in, who is getting it to the blind and infirm and those with developmental disability. They may not even realize that there is help there.

A movement as large as social traffic inc. participating in the celebration of the Internationale day for persons with disability cannot but help raise awareness. With awareness comes the opportunity to impart change through actions.
This is the same for the huge Birthday celebrations coming up. WOW!!!What a way to transform our world. I am honoured to take part

Rebecca happy
rh.edbd.

Re: Protected: Getting Started

I have already done my first tweet but am certainly going to go and see what they suggest and start over. Behind the screens are individual humans. Aside from the tools we use to communicate with now, the essential elements of emotion, body, spirit and mind defining how we interface with the world are the same.

The flat lining that social media has allowed requires that business and government take that into account when using the tools to access people. When they fake it with controlled ideas that are not authentic the person rather than the audience will lose interest and move on to some other place.

The tools are always in service to the relationship. This entire movement into new media is changing things but the shift wont really be seen until the generation born into it are building business relationships. It is happening there already of course but I am not surprised that you find a lot still functioning from the 1950s modalities. A lot of the education and literature that is available is anchored in it.
