read the story again. One attendee is quoted favorably speaking of her and one criticizes Bachmann. The complimentary attendee is quoted first. What's more, Art Neu, a Republican, who had a negative assessment, is the most prominent resident of the city of Carroll -- having served as Lt. Gov. and mayor and state senator and on the Board of Regents and Board of Corrections. His dad was the longest serving mayor in the history of Carroll, Iowa. This is why local media is important. Our readers know and respect Art Neu and value his opinion. That's why he was quoted. Had Mr. Neu said he was endorsing a candidate that would have made front page news.

If Congressman King is going to reference a high school term paper he should make it available to his constituents.

I am waiting for the PDF of it -- complete with his "A" in red marker on the front page -- to be placed on his Web site. Since he is referencing it in public debate one would assume the good congressman has the original document -- unless he has a photographic memory of all the work he turned in at Denison High School back in the day ...

Perhaps if King had been such a term-writing paper genius at Northwest Missouri State he actually would have graduated.

Shane: I rarely respond to readers comments as you deserve your voice here but you should know that Joe Biden is not campaigning for a few days because his mother in law just died. At Iowa Indy we have had a great deal of coverage of Mr. Biden over the past 2 years. Most of us have interviewed him multiple times and he has taken hundreds of questions from Iowans, both the media and public.

Feel free to attack Biden on this Web site -- but out of decency at least wait until Wednesday on your line of criticism here.

Here is Fox News -- hardly a liberal arbiter:

"Joe Biden will take a hiatus from the vice presidential campaign trail on Monday and Tuesday to be with his family following his wife's mother's death.

"Bonny Jean Jacobs, Jill Biden's mother, died Sunday after a long illness, the campaign announced. The funeral will be held Tuesday.

"We appreciate everyone's respect for the family's privacy during this difficult time," Biden spokesman David Wade said in a statement.

Yes, I was standing about 10 feet from Boswell while covering the event. He sat in a front row with other Democratic congressional candidates.
