It's the "cocktail" in combustible cigarettes that cause the addiction. There are MAOI's in cigarettes (anti-depressants) as well, which keep smokers coming back for more. Nicotine in isolation is remarkably close to caffeine in how it affects our body and how strongly we get addicted to it. Humans don't have severe withdrawal if they miss their cup of coffee in the morning, it just makes you feel a little bleary and cranky, but nothing you can't handle. It's hardly withdrawal but more a nuisance. I can tell you from my own (and from direct communication with other vapers) that I can go without vaping so much easier than I did cigs. Working an entire shift at work without vaping doesn't bother me a bit. If I miss anything, it's the physical activity of it. :)

Nicotine therapy is used for a multitude of medical issues, particularly mental illnesses such as Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder as well as ulcerative colitis. I have bipolar disorder and let me tell you, nicotine does help! Of course patches and gum have the same effect for nicotine therapy but as a former smoker, this is my preferred way of delivery.

Also, nicotine is naturally-occurring in tea, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, cauliflower, and a few other vegetables.

Re: Why we should be worried about e-cigarettes

I posted a very long reply to this and it's been deleted. :/ Tom is absolutely correct, though.

Re: Why we should be worried about e-cigarettes

You are seriously saying that if someone uses the word "vape" that they are probably doing it or considering it? Wow. That is the dumbest statement I've heard in a long time. That is how you gather data on the number of vapers?

Where is your proof that nicotine in isolation is highly addictive? Independent studies prove otherwise.

The incredibly unfortunate death of that child was due to caregiver negligence. In the ten years e-cigs have been more widely used, this is the first death. One is obviously too many but FAR more children are poisoned by ingesting prescription medication, liquor, laundry detergent, cleaning products and even toothpaste. Why are these products not banned? We leave the responsibility to caregivers and parents to protect children from these products but somehow e-liquid becomes sentient and mysteriously jumps down their throats.

Re: Using e-cigs to stop smoking tobacco is not as good as you may think

Oh yeah, they completely torched those CE4's (or whatever crappy top coil clearo they chose to use). There is NO way those would have been vapable. Of course they found metal particulates in that study, they were dry burning a coil until it was red! Even a brand new vaper would take a puff off of that and know something wasn't right and wouldn't continue. That "study" was purposely flawed or at the absolute very least done by people who had ZERO clue what they were doing. Maybe both. They won't dare ask a veteran vaper for assistance on how to properly use the device they tested because they may get it right.

Re: Using e-cigs to stop smoking tobacco is not as good as you may think

I won't parrot what the other vaping commenters posted because they are spot-on. The "tank system" argument completely perplexes me. For one, what they are calling a tank isn't a tank. Two, the way e-liquid is contained has NOTHING to do with the amount of heat a coil generates. It's like saying a red cup delivers more alcohol than a blue cup.

Re: Doctor: E-Cigarettes Shouldn’t Be Used Long Term

Soooo...what is considered long-term? Water is dangerous, air is dangerous, grass is dangerous to my daughter because she has gone into a massive asthma attack due to such a severe allergy to certain types of it. But WAY more kids have been poisoned by toothpaste of all things than e-liquid. Actually 15 times more.

"When you consider more than 20,000 people poisoned by toothpaste, a mere 365 e-liquid poisonings looks trivial. In fact, if there were 15 times the cases of e-liquid poisoning in 2014, it would still be less prevalent that toothpaste poisoning." There's a link to the actual study report in this article: https://www.electroniccigar...

Have you ever had even one drop of e-liquid on your tongue? It tastes HORRIBLE. It tastes nothing like it smells. It's not fruity, it's not sweet, and it burns your tongue. Vapers can back me up here. I am quite sure that 99.999% of kids that get one tiny taste of it would stop immediately and never try it again. On the rare occasions it happens to me, I immediately go to the sink and swish my mouth out with water. Not because a drop or two is going to cause me harm, but because it is absolutely disgusting.

Re: Comments for

http://www.tampabay.com/new...

From a personal standpoint, low-dose nicotine has been a lifesaver with my clinical depression and many report the same.

"We humans haven't been sucking a vapor of propylene glycol into our lungs long enough to know what the long term effects are." It's pure nicotine. Is cocoa butter chocolate? Nope.

How are the millions of people who vape zero nicotine getting their evil "fix?" Zero nicotine juices are wildly popular.

Do you know that hospitals pump PG through their air systems because it's a very effective air sanitizer? It's the base to asthma nebulizer treatments, which both of my children have to use regularly. I have had ONE cold since I started vaping 2.5 years ago when I normally have 2-3 per year. PG actually cleanses the lungs.

Re: Comments for

Yet the content of the news that includes murders, meth lab busts, child abuse, robberies, etc is good wholesome entertainment?

Re: Smoker hurt after e-cig explodes

"Lighting an e-cigarette." You don't light them, but my guess is that she tried lighting it out of habit and the flame caused the incident. There was a lighter nearby for some strange reason. There's no combustion in an e-cig and there's no way that would have got hot enough to cause an oxygen explosion. Just like with cell phones, laptops, etc, you have to use batteries safely and on the charger that came with them.

Re:

Wyoming Vapor is Xdoc from VapeTV!

Re: Plump and Polished: Celestial Cosmetics - Jaqen H'ghar and Sapphires of Tarth

I would LOVE that! :D

Re: Plump and Polished: Celestial Cosmetics - Jaqen H'ghar and Sapphires of Tarth

Sapphires looks a lot like my beloved Glacier Bay Blues!

Re: I CAN ADMIT WHEN I’M WRONG There’s nothing I... | GrimmGreenIndustries

Dripper 4 LYF.

Re: New Uses for Old Nail Polish

My kids have a way of making earbuds and phone/ipod chargers disappear and since they are all the same we can't say for sure who has who's.
