I understand all of these arguments - but the response will always be - why is that bad? Why is a man-man / woman-woman led family unit less than a 'traditional' family unit? MANY families are constructs of what they have available to them: single parents, gay parents, foster parents, grandparents - the construct doesn't matter - the values do. The assumption is that gay people don't make 'good parents' or a male-male parenting couple lack the female touch or vice versa. That's simply implication and nothing more.

Have you ever thought that gay people exist to help out the heterosexual parents who have their hands full? Adoption etc? I would gladly take in any child looking for a home, and fight to the death that they have the best possible upbringing, and contribute to a more open minded society.

AND saying that the gay marriage DOESN'T send a message is untrue. It does. It tells a confused 12 year old, that they can have the same things their brother has, and maybe they'll have a little more hope.

I agree with you that marriage is an outdated, archaic practice - but unfortunately it's universally understood. And universally I would like to tell opponents that I want what you have. Because why shouldn't I? Because I erode the fabric of society?

I agree with you largely here, however the problem is, not allowing gay people to marry is a direct message from the government that "you are less than". Further more - to implement gay marriage affects NO ONE. It really, truly doesn't. The pros WAY out weigh the cons. If it means stopping some disillusioned kid from killing themselves, that's a gpddamn victory. I could talk about this all day, but I need to get back to work. The bottom line for me though, is to just even the playing field.

Share your goddamn toys. We'll all be better for it.

I never said gay people were 'better' or 'superior'. What I was saying was people at the cutting edge of technology need to think about every possible outcome in any scenario, to be ahead of the curve. It's absolutely not mandatory, of course - anyone regardless of their personal beliefs can be a critical thinker, but to be a figurehead of a company AND a leader? Well you need tob be understanding of people's differences. Understanding that human sexuality is complex and cannot be controlled or put in boxes... is kind of.. well, humanity 101 - wouldn't you agree?

You have no idea, what it feels like, as a gay person, to grow up in a world, where your life is deemed 'less than' by the majority. Gay marriage says to the world: "Gay people are the same as straight people - they share the same experience as us- to the full extent, you are the same worth as your heterosexual brethren". When you come out as gay, you have to accept that the life you thought you were destined for - marriage, kids, white picket fence - is gone. Who are you now? You're a stigmatized minority. Someone that leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths. A pansy. A f*gg*t, an abomination. That is the life that you have to accept. So when someone tells me, you can't get married - you will never have the life 'I' have - it hurts. It hurts every single day. Because when I was 12 - that's what I wanted - to have someone love me so much they want to legally shout it to the world.

Mr Eich invented Javascript - that much I know - that is a huge achievement, I know this as a web designer myself. I do not challenge his ability as a technologist. I challenge his ability as someone who should be living in the future - what is an idealistic way to run a leading company? To understand your employees fully.Saying that you do not believe in gay marriage, says that you haven't really thought about it. What does it mean to be against gay marriage? What does that mean to you personally - WHY do you not believe in gay marriage? How does it affect you VS how does it affect your employees?

I can tell you it affects me every goddamn day. Don't tell me about intolerance. I know it all too well.

Mr. Eich's job is to lead a company into new and unchartered territories, to be at the cutting edge of technology and solving problems with creativity. While also being a fair and proud manager of a giant corporation filled with every type of employee you can image. Being opposed to gay marriage is just ONE example of having a limited and narrow-minded view on the wide expanse of the human experience. Frankly ANYONE who is opposed to gay marriage and is also leading a company, is far, far behind in the race we call human. I hope someone legendary replaces him at Mozilla, and we see them catching up to the likes of Google.
