Wow. I don't want to get deep into biological processes, but "drizzle" is not a verb that I'd expect to see associated with poop. For example, were 100 people surveyed, I highly doubt it would be in the top five potential answers on Family Feud.

I completely understand the impulse. I've had it a number of times myself. Just wanted to say you were one of my first e-Friends, even through my cringeworthy politi-troll phases, and it's always meant a lot. I, for one, will definitely miss you if you decide to go, but I get it. The law of diminishing returns can start to suck all the fun out of this whole "blogging" thing.

Searches of student's property on campus by school officials are legal so long as school officials can prove a "reasonable suspicion" in their actions. To my knowledge, that's a bit of leniency that's only given to school officials, not law enforcement officers. Officers still have a higher burden to prove before they do any sort of a search without the consent of a suspect.

I think if you were singled out with the supposed reason being that you were a suspect, but you could then prove that suspicions pointed elsewhere (e.g. that the letter was written by a boy), it'd be grounds to dismiss the evidence they took without meeting "reasonable suspicion." But that could only be the case if they were to actually charge you with anything. Sounds like if they had their crosshairs on your boyfriend, they were hoping to either give you a matching charge or to find something that'd make you a principal so you'd both have reason to start confessing to the actions of the other.

That last part happens alllll the time but usually with marijuana cases. The "masterminds" who bought and intended to smoke pot are given the appropriate misdemeanor charge, but anyone mentioned as having held, purchased, or passed along the MJ for that person while at school (regardless of whether they intended to smoke it at all) is given a FELONY charge of Delivering (Dealing) Marijuana within 1,000 ft of a school. The prosecutor knows full well she couldn't prove these kids were guilty of such a serious charge, but in the meantime both they and they parents will be sufficiently terrified as to be incredibly helpful witnesses in the cases against the original "masterminds." AND THEN when she reduces the charge back to a Misdemeanor Possession of Less than 20 grams of Marijuana, those other kids will feel like it's CHRISTMAS and they'll happily plead guilty, even though the prosecutor had no case against them without either her felony charge or law enforcement officers on the scene scaring them into admitting their involvement.

Can't tell you how to teach your daughter about dealing with law enforcement, but I know if I were in trouble, I'd still feel safe going to the police or dealing with the State Attorney's Office as a victim. I've just learned to see them as human beings with their own motives to be cautious of.

I will say though that if your daughter ever finds herself in trouble, the police will absolutely use your parental right to discipline her against both of you. If she wisely chooses not to say anything, I'd recommend not talking to her about what she's at a police station for until AFTER you take her home. Officers "politely" leave the room when parents arrive to let them talk to their sons or daughters and neither parent nor child know the police are video taping the entire conversation or recording the audio if it takes place over the phone. That's another surefire way of getting either admissions of guilt or of catching kids in a lie if they try to sugarcoat things to make Mom less upset with them.

I live in Florida. So where kayaking is concerned: no whitewater rapids just slow-going tea-colored water, lots and lots of quiet forest, definitely turtles, possibly snakes (have only ever seen one), maybe gators but probably not, and the occasional crazy redneck local.

Nope. Definitely not a deal-breaker. You had to watch it to end up hating it, and that's the important thing.

Which sounds odd.. but hopefully makes some sense. I would prefer for people to enjoy it but I couldn't hold it against them for not.

I think a big part of the problem is DFW's writing. People hold him in such a high regard that they try to use his words verbatim for the script. Most people just don't talk naturally like that.

I think you're probably right about it being implied, but I am still that dorky kid who can't help herself. I need the flashing caution lights and someone in a reflective vest to redirect me away from an awkward situation. Otherwise, better judgment is clouded by the urge to work the word into a sentence just for the opportunity to give voice to what I would usually only silently read to myself. The fact that the other person is standing there without the crucial context usually doesn't factor into my thinking until it's too late. Annnd it's a wonder at this point that people actually bring their glabellas around to hang out with me at all.

I feel like I couldn't possibly play the part of a disinterested, objective third party on this subject, but I'm curious as to what other people think.

It'd only be curiosity though as I don't think I'd be able to part with it. It's a "if loving this wrong I don't wanna be right" kind of a thing.

And now I feel empty as I realize the utter lack of decorations and novelties in my life with which I'd want to share big news just for the sake of their frozen reactions.
