Great post. I teach PT at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. Over the past four years I've led in-class, online and hybrid classes. What I find most interesting is that whichever format the students choose, they believe it's the best. In my experience, online isn't for everyone; you really have to be self-directed and disciplined. For sure there is a place for all of these kinds of learning. How wonderful to have all these choices.

Yes! I crave the times when I can be alone with my thoughts, as much as I love to read and listen to podcasts. For me, it's walking alone, kayaking, or time on the sailboat when I'm not actively having to DO something (trim sails, etc.).

Thanks for the post, Sue. When I said that search engines hate audio, what I meant was that they cannot understand it. Search engines actually LOVE multimedia content, but we have to gives clues as to what it's about.

Fascinating post, Mitch. I am one of those people who prefers to used "owned" rather than "rented" space. I am also wondering about the SEO value of something like Facebook Notes. Did you see the post by Christopher Penn at SHIFT about how Notes was not being indexed? Not yet, anyway.

I know this content-creation space is evolving by the day. Fun to watch it all happen. Thanks, as always, for your thought-provoking posts.

I agree with the comments by Steve Lubetkin, my co-author on The Business of Podcasting. And I disagree that the podcast host must have a mellifluous voice. Almost anyone can learn to modulate one's voice and use a microphone correctly. The days of needing a "radio" voice are over.
