Most definitely! Bendis's take on Daredevil was great, if not superb. Yet, his Avengers run is really way OVERRATED! Dark Phoenix Saga is considered as THE BEST X-MEN STORY ever! Even Marvel acknowledges this! Without Chris Claremont or even Grant Morrison to begin with, how could Joss Whedon cook something more delectable than his predecessors? I have huge respect to Whedon's take on the best Astonishing X-Men storyline ever, but to put his work on the top is something else! Granted, the dialogue is still intelligent, sensible, melodramatic and even infuriatingly funny, yet Claremont's painstaking characterization on every X-Man in his long run was yet to be outmatched. Images of the Dark Phoenix's ultimate sacrifice is still haunting even to this day, the era where comic deaths are plain commercial crass! Cyclops' despair, in Chris' pen, remains unmatched! How about Morrison? Well, Grant Morrison will always be GRANT MORRISON! Confusingly intriguing, thought-provoking, engagingly intelligent and most importantly, brain-boosting take, not some profit-first-mentality of sorts. Yes, he is still one of the most difficult read comic writers today, but heck, his work still influences many aspiring auteur to think way beyond the conventional wisdom! Just look at X-Men First Class, the uniform/costume used in the movie is definitely Morrison-inspired, among others. Art is definitely the waterloo of Grant's run, and this is highly understandable! Come on, we know that Frank Quitely was, and even now is, a very slow illustrator. He cannot simply keep up with the pace on a monthly basis! And wait a minute, Is the list focused more story than art? IGN should be more specific next time on how to balance this. Anyway, Joss Whedon is very lucky to have John Cassaday on board. How come IGN said very, very less on the latter's contribution? I strongly believe that his art is ONE of the reasons why Astonishing X-men was a sure fire comic book in the last part of 2000. And, where are some of the more important sagas here? Namely, Fall of the Mutants and X-tinction Agenda. A good list, but still wanting!

Re: Comic Book Sales for May 2011

After Grant Morrison's maniacal run in Batman and Robin and Action Comics 900, I stop buying DC single issue comics. I watched it and found a bit enjoyable, at par with Thor. I agree with the writer/reviewer here, comic fans, me including, are disappointed on how the movie turned out. But I always try to remind myself that movie versions are a compromised lot--trying to be accessible to both fans and casual movie-seekers alike. Yet, the negatives prevailed me a lot--Parallax, unbelievable GL training time, Parallax vs. GL and its demise at the SUN, etc. Enjoyable in the sense of laughing/chuckling many times. Indeed, BATMAN Begins and the DARK KNIGHT are the true paragons of excellent comics-to-movie adaptations, but Green Laterns fails the bill. That paved way for the ascendancy of Norman Osborn as the Top Dog of Villainy in the Marvel Universe! Why singled-out Secret Invasion here, why not SIEGE, which was way more horrible and terrible in plot and dialogue! Yes, there were more innovative ways of getting the true Green Goblin to the top of the Marvel food chain, but I think that this event was a better substitute than anything else. It actually served Marvel more than anything else, least in the year 2008. Other than that, happy, happy, joy, joy for NOT buying those stuffs! Partly agree! It is the start of Geoff Johns' DC retcons and revitalization of the Silver Age characters (in DC, of course) which he truly loves since childhood! But the list will be more significant if the "recommending" opus is part of it!
Furthermore, if Identity Crisis will be released in the Absolute format, why can't DC also do the same with the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Nights? Excellent list!

Re: The Best Comic Book Events Ever

The reviewer has a mind of his own! Fine with that! But in the post-modern era, the final arbiter is the reader-buyer! I like the list except for one big aberration--Final Crisis! The very reason why I bought the hard cover version was the hype of Batman's "death"! Yes, my most favorite superhero "died"! But NO! Morrison's story is like reading a very unreadable (read: highly intellectual, astrophysicist-leveled, "Luthor"/Stephen Hawking level genius) piece of visual literature! Don't get me wrong, I prefer Batman: RIP than this one! That's the problem with Grant, very elitist and understandably-challenged! It's akin of reading a Kant-inspired philosophical discourse! Final Crisis became more digestible upon Grant's "revelation" in the pages of Batman and Robin and other Batman series! Little wonder why many fans still believer/prefer Infinite Crisis than this one!

Re: Will Spider-Man Really Die?

Question: "what was the point of polybagging the issue if they were going to spoil it anyway?"
Answer: Not everyone stay tuned with IGN!

Re: Ultimate Comics Avengers vs. New Ultimates #5 Review

Hah! Does that mean storytelling's the biggest chunk of judging the quality of the comic issue/collected version in the IGN review section? If that is the case, the reviewer's justification on it. But nonetheless, I'll buy this stuff for I'm a strong believer in the art's quality. I'm a 90s guy and more so, art is the final arbiter of the comic industry! Yu and Segovia are buddies/comrades-in-arm in the comic industry. The latter's specialty is similar to his fellow compatriot Tolibao-imitation. Isn't that the biggest complement in art is trying to mimic one's work? I'm not saying per se that they are bunch of copycats. They are just doing a favor or two with their good friend. And that's I probably surmise with Segovia's take on Yu's illustrations.

Re: Silver Surfer #5 Review

If only Marvel just focused on only ONE artist after Segovia-TOLIBAO I really stress here-this series would be a true knock-out!
