At this time of the year, the November elections are distant, even to experienced political followers(and appointed officials) like myself. The midterms feel too far away, and the idea of continual non-stop electorialism is disturbing.

In my city, we are having a special referendum to vote on funding for a new high school. The election is in May, a month from now, and planning started eight weeks ago. Community organizers just started their advocacy this week. The Facebook crowd, usual no friends to city government, is just now stirring.

It's a big ask for normies to care about the midterms right now when we don't have a firm idea of who's running in my district (MA 6th). (I gave strong feelings about the candidates and people involved. That's not the same thing as a definite choice.)

As a disabled person, I'm most fearful of young men, as they are the least sympathetic to disabled people. This has been long cultivated. These are the same people who used the r-word on me--and would use it on me still! It is a cruel irony that many young males become disabled themselves. They're erased, and become non-persons amongst their nominal peers.

Someone on Threads was saying that those who bitterly condemned Democrats (8 of them) as cowards are secretly accelerationists.

There is too much truth in that.

Everywhere in my circles, people were telling me that "we" need to sacrifice a bit longer.

For what?

And who is "we"?

It isn't me. Or my friends and neighbors.

I'm on SNAP and SSI. Am I supposed to lose both to make a point?

THE REPUBLICANS WON'T CARE REGARDLESS.

Neither do too many people supposedly on my side.

In the most recent version of WSL (Windows 11, 23H2), your files are no longer stored directly on your hard drive. You can still access files on the Windows side with /mnt/c on the Linux side, but it's harder to access Linux files from the Windows side.

For example, I use WSL Debian. Its files live in C:%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Packages\TheDebianProject.DebianGNULinux_76v4gfsz19hv4/LocalState. This may vary depending on the Linux distribution you have installed, but it will always be somewhere in the Packages directory.

This points to ext4.vhdx, a virtual disk with your Debian files, app, kernel and system state--a complete virtual machine. When Microsoft said that later versions of WSL would be built on Hyper-V, this is what is meant.

You can access Linux files from Windows with the path: \\wsl$\<your distribution>\ or \\wsl.localhost\<your distribution>. The old method of going through AppData no longer works.

I wish people were more scared of cults of personality. Either as followers or as leaders. I would be mortified and scared to find that I was the subject and center of such a cult.

But even moreso, I'm afraid of being a follower. I don't even trust people on my "own" side, not completely. I'm appalled at how many self-professed Democrats in my circles are stanning for Mamdani. The man doesn't have any great ideas that no one else has proposed. He's just charismatic and a better street campaigner than the rest of the field. The man's father hates America yet wants to make his bones in the country just the same. Plus the antizionism. THAT'S a true legacy of the Soviets! I never thought that they and Hamas would have so many hand up so many people's asses, but that's propaganda for you.

I remind myself of a point that Jeff Jarvis made. The "Traditional Media" is a historical anomaly. For a very brief period from 1950 to 1980, there were threeTV networks, and by coincidence, three major newspapers that set the discourse (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post).

Nearly everything the average American knew about the world was filtered through TV news. Those that did the filtering, were those elites who read the news, reported the news, and edited the news. That filtered down to the networks, Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley, et. al. Plus your local paper.

That's gone now.

The only thing I would add is "A" for accessibility. I am disabled. I also am on a disability commission in my town (Massachusetts has been an early leader in disability law). I attended my town's rally and was very disappointed that I didn't get to speak about this. (Leftists are famous for ignoring disabled people. Sadly, so are some D's.)

"DEIA" was floated as an acronym, as has IDEA, but neither one has caught fire. The disabled community has a phrase, "nothing for us, nothing about us, without us." If the disabled community wants representation, we'll have to do it ourselves.
