For exports from AddressBook to the N900 contacts app, you only have to:
- export your AddressBook contacts as vCard 3.0
- edit the file with an editor such as emacs to remove all the null and Ctrl-M characters
- transfer the edited file, for instance over Bluetooth, to the N900
- import the contacts
Result is perfect.

Doing similarly for iCal will just import non-recurring, timed events so not really useful at all.

For those still on Tiger, which is not supported by this version of Nokia Multimedia Transfer, Salling's Media Sync works nicely.

To add to Roger's highlighting of latency as a more important issue than bandwidth or throughput, latency changes depending on the air interface. It's better with LTE than HSDPA, and HSDPA is better than GSM. So latency will change when the device switches between networks.

Of course latency is affected not just by the air interface but also by choices in the comms stack on the phone and even by applications.

Many years ago, Bill Joy did some research where he concluded that a throughput of 1 Mbps is 'good enough', what is needed for users not to be frustrated.
