Much to the chagrin of my doctor, I fail about 30 percent of the time. But compared to when I was a much younger buck, it's as if I quit altogether.

I do more chicken and fish now, but I have also tried the "bean meat" alternatives like the Impossible burger. They aren't all that bad -- not like the old veggie burgers of the past. Would I give up a beef hamburger for one? Sure, sometimes. That doesn't mean my car won't inexplicably stop at the hamburger joint on my way home this afternoon...

Re: Reviews for Q F C - Quality Food Centers Inc - Main Office - Bellevue

I have shopped at the West Seattle QFC for the past twelve years. UNTIL TODAY. I can no longer feel safe going into this store because the manager allows his employees to go without wearing masks, claiming that the union prevents him from forcing them to wear them or to reassign them away from customers if they are not medically able to wear them.

Since the law mandates both employees and customers to wear masks or make other arrangements to ship, then that also applies to those who claim a 'medical' reason for not wearing them. The job requires a person to be physically fit to perform the functions of the job, and that includes the ability to wear PPE such as masks.

The safety of the customers should come first, before the alleged comfort of the employees. There is already a large discussion on the local Nextdoor website about this particular store and its manager refusing to enforce the law and company policy. As customers, we are deciding to boycott this particular store until such time the store is compliance.

I took this photo of two employees that weren't wearing masks. The one saw me with a camera and quickly tried to cover up his face, and the other said that he refuses to wear a mask because he "can't breathe".

The manager, James, is quoted in the Nextdoor story as saying he's 'frustrated', because the union will not allow him to reassign or let go these employees for not following the law and company policy. He claims that the employees have given him 'doctor's notes' excusing them from having to wear masks.

We all know that's not a "thing", and even if it were, the doctor and employee is literally admitting by way of a 'note' that they are not fit to work.

So this store will continue to hemorrhage customers if it doesn't fix this issue immediately. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Re: The Walking Dead: Executive Producer Gives Update on Season 10 Finale Delay

If past is prologue, this will probably spell the end of TWD franchise.

The writer's strike of 2007-08 ended a LOT of shows and severely changed the trajectory of many others. Networks, desperate for new product, started airing more and more 'reality shows' because of their availability and the fact that they are MUCH cheaper to produce.

All that said, TWD relies on viewers who have invested time into the story line. Producers of shows with an ongoing story line have the ability to keep fans going between the hiatus of production -- otherwise they lose viewers due to a loss of interest or forgotten story line.

Fear The Walking Dead is going to have some SERIOUS problems if and when it returns on air. Most of us will have forgotten the story line by the time it finally returns, and most viewers will probably not want to spend time to RE-watch the previous episodes to 'catch back up'.

Putting the finale to season 10 off until some later date will also have the same effect that faces FTWD. It might be a “It’s a great episode,” right now, but the longer it goes until air time, the less impact it will ever have.

This was my industry. I was a sound engineer on several television series from the mid-1990s through 2018.

Re: large-homeless-encampment-involved-in-drug-ring-bust-to-be-cleared

Terminal 5 has been empty for years. Does this solve ANY of the problems we face as a city or a society?

I know Dori spends most of his show time whining about things, and blaming Democrats for everything, but I have yet to hear him offer up any constructive solutions.

Instead, he will spend his time questioning the motives of why someone chose a name for his family.

Judging by this article -- and I assume the show that sparked it -- I have zero idea who SDOT Director Sam Zimbabwe is or what his planned vision for Seattle's transportation issues are. Instead, we are forced to Dori's more important questions as to why he picked his last name, and whether there were any political motives behind it.

Way to go after the REAL issues.

This guy could call himself Fester Bestertester for all I care. Generally, the courts have determined that a 'speedy trial' is to be sixty days if the defendant is in custody, and ninety days if the defendant is out of custody. Extensions are allowed and are almost automatically granted upon motion from either the prosecution or defense.

Often, the court themselves will require its own extension if there is a conflict in hearings and trials.

94 percent of state cases end up in a plea agreement. 97 percent in the federal system. The rest end up in trials that can take upwards of a year to schedule -- blowing past the speedy trial provisions of the Constitution.

Here's the problem that the government has in prosecutions:

At any given time in this country, there are roughly 630 thousand people in jail awaiting disposition of their crimes. These are people waiting for court. Imagine that every single one of them decided to exercise their constitutional rights of a speedy trial by their peers.

The government would have to let 95 percent of them go without convictions due to the sheer numbers and the lack of court and proprietorial resources to hold trials on each and every case.

So the government has to keep the system running as best as it can with the resources it has.

As I said somewhere above, prosecutors need to prioritize those who are repeat offenders. If a defendant is a repeat offender, then the last thing a prosecutor should be offering them is a "bargain". Instead, the defendant should be allowed to plead guilty to the strongest charges that can be filed, or face a trial.

"Bargains" should be reserved for the first time offenders. Diversions should be offered for these people if the crime is a minor one.

But repeat offenders? Throw the book at them.

Re: dori-kirkland-hate-crime

The problem here is that the state was trying to expedite a conviction, instead of charging the guy for the actual crime(s) he committed.

There was a clear case for a 2nd degree armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, but the state chose to charge him with assault and theft, for which he got the maximum sentence of five years.

Because the charges he was convicted of are not considered to be "violent" offences, he is entitled to earn up to one-third of his time off for "good time" and "earned time".

That means a five year sentence is done in 3 years and four months if he keeps his nose clean inside.

Had he been convicted of either a robbery or the 1st degree assault he should have gotten, he would have been required to serve 85 percent of his sentence instead of the 66.6 percent.

It seems to me that if a person has more than one or two previous convictions, that the State should be REQUIRED to refuse any and all plea 'bargains', and the defendant be forced to be tried or plead guilty to the most serious charges that can be filed..

Re: seattle-leaders-angry-repeat-assaulter-jail

Not quite right correct.

Democrats rejected it because of the plan to report illegal aliens to ICE, whether they passed the background check or not.

Subtract the ICE requirement and Dems would have easily voted for it.

That doesn't mean illegal aliens shouldn't be arrested for attempting to illegally purchase firearms -- THEY SHOULD. The Supreme Court is 'paid off'? Or does it just reflect the will of the people who VOTED for the Justices of the Court?

I'm going with the later.

The application of the death penalty is what eventually put an end to it.

The death penalty is supposed to be the 'ultimate' punishment, saved for the worst of the worst. In 2016 Washington State had 216 homicides. In 2015 there were 239. 211 the year before. Yet there are only five people on death row.

The Washington State Department of Corrections is full of people who have committed murder. About thirty percent of them have committed crimes far more heinous than those committed by the five inmates currently sitting on Death Row.

Gary Ridgeway is one prime example. If there was a murder who was tailor-made for the death penalty, it would have been Ridgeway. Reichert wants to pretend that it was the threat of the death penalty that caused Ridgeway to cooperate, when in reality it was almost the other way around: the STATE wanted to avoid a costly investigation and trial, and the twenty years worth of appeals that would have followed.

NEWSFLASH: Gary Ridgeway only needed to be charged with ONE murder in order to receive the death penalty. The state could have easily gotten that conviction and sentence and he'd be sitting on DR right now today.

No, people, the reality is exactly what I described above: COST.

We don't regularly hand out the death penalty because of the cost.

A death penalty trial runs about $2 million for an average murder. The cost of the appeals can go as high as $10 million and can take upwards of twenty years.

Multiply that by the 216 homicides in Washington in 2016. It gets real expensive real fast.

The victims families do not get any kind of closure while the defendant is still fighting his or her appeal. Again, that can take upwards of twenty years.

Now, if instead of the death penalty, murder carried a Life without parole sentence, a person can be convicted and buried in a prison system never to be heard from again. They decided they would rather not have either group there.

This has nothing to do with the 'tolerance' of one political group over the other, it has more to do with trying to avoid trouble.

The irony here is that it is usually the Republicans who are against all of this political correctness and snowflakes.

Until they want THEIR correctness.

Re: car-stolen-everett

So basically, they did a "Kavanaugh" investigation.

Re: dori-library-drag-queen-story-time

You and I realize that -- and so does Dori. When this was pointed out to Dori today, he countered by saying that he is paying for the BUILDING.

This is why I broke down what his 'share' actually was.

In responding here, I forgot part of the equation. Dori's share -- per day -- divided by 48 locations is actually less than the one cent I stated above. It would be 1/48th of a penny.

But still, Dori spent even more time making a fool out of himself today.

Re: dori-library-drag-queen-story-time

Dori said: "I’m a King County taxpayer. I send a healthy amount of money every single year to the King County treasury through my property taxes. And a big chunk of that money goes to the King County Library System."

Okay, so exactly how much do you suppose Dori personally paid here?

The median annual property tax payment in King County is $4024.

King County Library system gets 2.64 percent, meaning that the median payment per taxpayer is roughly $126. NONE of that went towards this event. The event was paid for by donations. Only the space was reserved.

But Dori want's to claim that because it is housed in a building owned by taxpayers, that HE is somehow on the hook for this -- because the building was being used.

Okay, let's just assume that Dori's entire tax payment to the King County Library system went to just the building itself. $126 divided by 365 tells us that Dori paid almost 30 cents a day for his share of that building cost.

Now lets assume that this even is an hour long. Simple math tells us that Dori "spent" almost an entire PENNY on this event.

Whether there is an event of not, Dori (and you and I) pay for this day in and day out.

TODAY, he felt the need to continue on with is nastiness.

He speculated that the King County Librarian would only cater to drag queens. He asked if the library would host something like a "Marine Story Telling Hour" and then said, "I doubt it".

He just pulled that right out of his rear end.

I dunno, Dori, why not ask? Here's another idea: why not have a Dori Monson Story time at that library? I mean, all you have to do is set it up -- they would be more than happy to make that happen.

But no, it is much easier for Dori -- who has never really done anything outside of media himself -- to sit on the radio and kvetch about stupid stuff like this.

FINALLY,

Dori wonders about the appropriateness of a drag queen reading stories to children.

Anyone remember Gertrude of the JP Patches show?
