The Concept of "Subscribing" Is.

Good article Jesse.

RSS is a great technology that has been undermined in 3 ways: by publishers and by RSS readers themselves and by the users of RSS.

1) Publishers truncate their content so you go to their site to read the rest of the article and they made ad money off of your eyes. Completely understandable but undermines the use of RSS in a sense.

2) RSS readers are almost all the same thing. It's different packaging with consistent elements like Unread Counts and poor organizational methods.

3) Users - It makes no sense to subscribe to publishers who push content in high volumes because you can so easily fall behind and become apathetic. RSS readers are perfect for sources that publish in medium or low quantities (less than 30 posts per week per source) because you can keep on top of that, at least until you have too many sources.

Readers are a fantastic idea but we need to innovate in that area 100%. There needs to be a better way to consume content in one place.

Re: Figure Out Your Content’s Flow

Test

Re: Why Websites Are Slow & Why Speed Really Matters [INFOGRAPHIC]

Torbit.com baby! Keep up the great work.

I featured this video on my blog and linked back to you guys. The laptop and the tablet have huge futures in terms of distribution of magazines to computers. That's the next step: digitizing not only newspapers but magazines too. And with that comes the critics who will scream, "Magazines are dying!" but that's not true, just like newspapers aren't dying. They're just migrating.

http://shutupinternet.com/p...

If you'd like to follow me on Twitter you can find me here: http://www.twitter.com/zack...

Re: Sports in Stilettos

He's not playing now! What I'm trying to communicate is that the person ranked as the #1 writer by the Tumblr Directory was in fact, not a writer. That's fine. I wholly recognize that their rank has to do with their audience's participation and reaction to their content, writing or otherwise. I get how Tumblr works.

Instead of your usual dry humor, why not recommend me a few of your favorite writers on here, people who provide good text content? That would be an example of a constructive post, something you're not a fan of when it comes to replying to my posts. But that's you, that's fine.

I realize that my complains aren't going to suddenly spring writers from every corner of the Internet and Tumblr but I feel that it's important to express my opinion. I'd like to see more writing, frankly. I was hoping that someone would provide me with some writers as they reblogged my post but only Tristan has.

I can't change anything with one post but I can encourage and inspire thought so that maybe someone chooses to write a little something next time in favor of another type of post.

Again, I'm not asking for long breathy posts. Word count isn't important; I don't care if you write one thousand word posts. I'm asking for quality in writing and if you've found that, feel free to share it. But for the masses that read my post that maybe aren't thinking about if they write or how much the write, maybe I've inspired a few posts of self expression through writing.

Re: There is a distinct lack of writers on Tumblr

In response to your 100 words comment, I didn't mean that 100 words or more auto-qualifies it as a good or brilliant. It doesn't by any means.

What I'm saying is that whoever is tagged in the #1 writer spot is not, in fact, a writer. I could write 15 brilliant words that convey a point across quickly and efficiently or a 300 word post that's muddled and crappy. Quantity doesn't equal quality.

Sure people subscribe to Tumblelogs via RSS, what I'm saying is that most Tumblr users use it for their immediate Tumblr audience. Most don't aim for others outside of the Tumblr platform therefore the RSS problem doesn't effect Tumblr users nearly as much, I'd argue, as a Wordpress or TypePad blogger.

Re: There is a distinct lack of writers on Tumblr

Thanks for this reblog and your comments.
