Falcao has very limited movement around the box plus he is getting closer to 30 than to 25. Lewandowski is considerably younger, mobile and if not as clinical as Falcao has room for improvement. He will also cost less in wages, in transfer fees, signing on fees and will bring in just as much in shirt sales. Lewandowski will also understand that he isnt the type of player that Guardiola likes and with a star-studded team like Bayern he will find it hard to play every week. I certainly hope that he doesnt choose bayern...

It's pretty useless writing key battles articles considering nobody knows who mourinho will field. He doesn't have a strongest 11 yet and saying "if this player does well they will win" is kinda stupid.
The only thing that can strongly influence this tie is who throws who off in strategy...they're both good managers and not afraid to tinker with the team to win.

Although Lukaku did seem a little confused with the ball at his feet, he held the ball up very well and was always up the front. With Torres, the only thing i can remember him doing is throwing his hands up in the hair while on his knees...Torres basically had a whole year where he was the main striker and in that year he scored less valuable goals than Mata.
Now i don't hate Torres by any stretch of the imagination but he is now becoming a symbol of failure and maybe its time for Chelsea to give Lukaku a shot. I just don't see Chelsea playing on the back foot under Mourinho and with the defenders so jam packed Torres will continue to struggle.

Who knows, Torres might prove me wrong...

McEchran was pretty disappointing but he was better than the rest of the team so he did stand out in the second half. De Bruyne was wonderful and a massive improvement on last seasons pre-season. Wallace looked like a pocket rocket (basically created that last goal out of nothing...from defense into the net), Van Ginkel looked very composed and Lukaku reminded us what its like to have a good striker in the squad.

He should have fielded a full strength team for the first half and sealed the game as soon as possible. Then make subs that you need to and rest the players of importance. Mata is more than capable of playing 1.5 games as is Oscar and Hazard.
He took out the entire backbone of the team and expects there to be understanding, speed and structure in the midfield. Okay, when we have Lampard in the side its a bit of a hindrance but when you leave out the entire midfield that offsets his rubbish play...well we saw the results.

Benitez has always only been interested in cup ties, He even places more importance on Europa League than finishing in the top 4...3 months to go!!

Just play as weak of a team as possible...provided Oscar, Hazard, Ramires, Ba and Mikel/Ake are fresh for the FA cup game im pretty sure that would get us a win and a good shot at Man United.

Mata is a machine so he can probably play the first half of the game against Southampton.

I think its more about getting rid of Torres than getting Falcao. There arent that many clubs that Torres would be willing to go to considering he gets around 175k a week and wants to go to a top side. He still has 3 years to run on his contract and no club in their right mind would pay him that much considering how terrible of a player he is now.

I'm not a huge fan of Falcao..he is a good striker and all but for 50m i think we should rather buy Jovetic, Schurrle and recall Lukaku.

Falcao is also 27 now so he will have no resale value and since he is a mercenary he will just pocket the 200k/week and run down his contract like Malouda because once he gets to the age of 32 nobody will want him.

I think its all too risky

His contract wont be extended...simple as that! Like Lampard, he has a huge ego and although he was great in his prime, he doesn't accept that he isnt the heart and soul of the club anymore...

He has also brought a fair bit of negative publicity which doesnt do the club any favours (especially from a financial viewpoint)

Legend and all...but i dont see him playing past the end of next season.

He could retire...cos i dont think he will go down the road of moving clubs

Oscar is more of a Modric mould. A little bit deeper than Mata and Hazard and unlike them he isnt actually a winger by trade....He should play just behind mata and hazard but through the middle. He did however impress against Juventus in that role...but i think he will get bored playing as a man-marking central midfielder

There may not be a perfect replacement for Lampard when he was at his prime...but there are plenty of replacements for him in his current form. Don't get me wrong, he is a legend for the club and was wonderful but recently he has had to change his style of play and hasn't been able to do that.

Sure, he scores goals and that's great....but he isn't a striker and what he should be doing is setting the game up so that other people can score. He takes up space outside the box and makes it harder for the 3 in front of him to create chances.

The game style has changed now and we don't really need a box to box midfielder who has played counterattacking football his entire career.

He is a legend, a great role model and what not....but he is also an anchor for the club and if he cared as much about the club as you think he does...then he would stay on reduced wages and with less game time and eventually move into a directors role or an ambassador for the club.

He has been one of the major players that has had managers sacked and you can't ignore the fact that he has an ego.

Long story short, we can't replace Lampard...but we can move on in a different direction and improve the team without him.
