Hey Dean,

I think one of the best things about fishing is that it puts you so in the moment that all the voices in your head die down and you can take a break from the constant thought/analysis of the overwhelming world we live in.

It sounds like Arkansas is a good place for that.

Hey there Angler Wannabe,

I for one would love to know what Youtube channels are your favorite.

The video is pretty great, thanks for posting it. I've been wondering for quite some time why the "Fishing" genre at Netflix hasn't added any fly fishing dvd's or streaming movies as well. Maybe it's a good thing? There aren't enough of us to make it worth their while?

I think you're doing a great job with the new format and layout. I'm looking forward to more posts!

Ahem...here they are

1) Costilla Creek - north of Taos - high mountain valley - not a great photo but here's what it looks like http://farm3.static.flickr....
2) Cimmaron - east of Taos - small creek with small flow, and LOTS of rainbow and browns, lots of people too though, compared to the other spots listed here, but none compared to Colorado.
3) Red River - good flow and very desolate, especially in the upper reaches...i still am trying to hilke up into the high mountain lakes where it starts to find some Cuthroat and stocked Rainbows.

Glad you had a good time. Riudoso was a huge dissappointment fro me too. Next time do the extra time and head for Taos, or at least Tres Ritos. I know it's an extra five or six hours, but i promise it's worth it.

Water stays in the deep pools year round, at least the ones on that map linked to above. They got incredibly small this year though with pools that are normally three to four feet deep getting down to one or two feet. Right now is the perfect time to be down there though. And remember there is a lot of Barton Creek out there. That Lost Creek area on the map just happens to be where i spend most of my time, although i did find a section recently that is new to me and just as beautiful. Check it out at

Man. Pretty depressing isn't it. This summer has really been crushing as far as water goes. I've even started fly tying this last week, 30 years before i thought i would, in an effort to keep from going stir crazy.
