If a man shows up at a knitting group of mostly women, he's either fussed over or made to listen to female health problems. Glad you had a good time.

Re: Afraid of Knitting

I do like your color choices on the garter scarves. I continue to upgrade my windows desktop when necessary and use it, and its nice big keyboard, at home. You're right iTunes sucks, and now they force you to use the cloud to synch instead of the PC for apps and files. iTunes still works for music, but I find I don't care so much about my playlists these days. I like my iPhone 7 and iPad Pro. I use my iPhone camera exclusively since I dropped my last "real" camera and broke it. I like IOS Snapseed for photo processing on my phone. KnitCompanion on the iPad is a necessity for lace charts and PDF patterns. Like you, I'm used to them and don't think I would switch to Android any time soon.

Have you ever tried Kim Salazar's explanation of Ann Kreckel's Jane's bootie pattern? It's my favorite. https://string-or-nothing.c...

Re: Yarn of Mystery

In the "lid for every pot" sentiment, I vote donate or garbage. I love this Winter Holiday and bring a fresh tree and garland inside each year. You can't bottle that smell!

I once taught knitting to a super christian who looked for signs of other cristians like it was a secret handshake. Phooey.

Re: Men Who Crochet

I'm going to start calling you Color Boy.

Re: Openings and Closure

Congrat's on the knitting retreats successes.

I've been reading your blog for some years and seen a few blankets go by. These online videos are a terrific addition to our tool set. Maybe I'm old, but I still like the "Learn To Knit" skinny book for its clear pictures, and then Sally Melville's knit/purl/color books. Also, after the basic stitches are in hand, I would recommend a trip to all the local yarn shops to see their atmosphere and what they have to offer in the way of lessons, especially help with reading patterns and fixing mistakes. Sometimes even Michaels stores have pretty good knitting classes. A local knitting group is a good way to soak up knitting chatter. If your friend is a man, he'd have to be brave to listen to all the talk about uterine problems and girl talk :-) My only man knitting friend likes Men Who Knit web site and ravelry groups. You are kind to do all that investigation for a friend.

Re: Please Vote

I hand wound a few balls recently. I didn't feel any closer to the yarn and it took forever, so I've gone back to my ball winder. The nostepinne is nice to have for long trips where you might just happen upon some yarn you need to work with "right now" and the seller doesn't have a ball winder handy, which has happened before. PS: The afghan is coming along nicely.

Re: The Big Picture

I don't believe it til I see it.
