Horace Patterson is covering for the police, I feel it is time for District Attorney Steve Giddens to impanel a grand jury, supobena Eddie Tucker to give testamony under oath, then investigate what Eddie says and if proven he has lied, then charge him with perjury. Once this story makes the rounds, who in their right mind would want to come to a town to live, go in business or attend church where there is a crooked police dept and councilmembers covering for them. While he admits to being disciplined at least twice, he did not tell that he is allegedly being investigated at this time. He tired to cover up corruption in the water board and in todays Daily Home, there is a story about his part in trying to cover up a theft. If all the citizens who have had a run in with Jake Montgomery would come forward and share with you the turmoil they have gone through dealing with Jake, he would not be considered for dog catcher. It is my opinion at least three of the board members who voted for Jake Montgomery, must have gotten their palms greased/ or some type promise from Senator Preuitt. It is a known fact that Preuitt has been bragging around town and in the coffee shops that Jake would be in the top three and the governor would appoint Jake as Judge. This cannot happen and I hope the citizens of Talladega county will contact Governor Riley with e-mails and faxes and ask him not to do this to our county. It would be more safer in prison than living in Talladega with Jake Montgomery as judge....this is my opinion based on having lived in both places. I believe also, your stories will reveal that the city manager was supposed to do many of the other jobs that Mr. Stampfler has hired someone to do. Since Stampfler has been in town, less than a year, the cost of doing business has gone up close to $300,000.00. Through the years, Senator Preuitt has had his head on right...but of late, everything he touches becomes bogged down. The third Circuit Judge for Talladega County, his envolvement in trying to get Jake Montgomery appointed District Judge, the Shelby County bridge, his attempt to block Lincoln from being able to control their destny with the 2800 acres and the list is endless. The question still remains. Why is the Senator and the Talladega County Commission all of a sudden interested in a recreation board to control the proposed park? The commission has had the land for more than five years, yet this is the first time Prueit and the commission has mentioned a park board. I believe that someone is trying to take control of this park so they can sell the timber....and then whose pocket will be lined? Maybe it is time for one of the DH investigative reporters to pull back the covers from the courthouse and take a look at what is going on behind closed doors. A lot of action/decisions are being made at the commission meetings without any discussion...I guess they all have ESP and just know what each member is thinking. The mayor of Lincoln and the city council passed a resolution opposing Senator Preuitt's bill to have a state rec board to oversee the 2800 plus acres at Brecon. However, in the April 25 edition of the Daily Home, County Commissioner Jackie Swinford was quoted as saying, "I'm confused," at the county commission meeting where Councilmember Kykendahll requested the county commission deed the acreage over to Lincoln as ordered by the Federal Government. Swinford went on to say, "I met with Preuitt, Kitchen and Watson in Mayaor Watson's office and he told me he was good with committee working as a regional authority."..Now based on the article in Wed DH, and the action taken by Mayor Watson and the city council, you don't have to be an educated person to know Swinford lied. It appears he is getting a great start, in politics, since he has only been in office for a short while. As I have said before, something is going on in the wood pile. It is a shame that we have five spineless commissioners in Talladega who are apparantly controlled by Preuitt and Preuitt Jr, AKA as Steve Hurst. If there were rape laws on the book charging a person with financial rape, former Judge Jerry Fielding and the chairman of the Cheaha Mental Health Board would be serving long terms in prison. Once again, I commend you and the DH for not having any "sacared cows". Judge Fielding states in the article that he had not planned to serve a long time and did not take his contract seriously. If this be the truth the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, then why was it drawn up using the clause that he would be paid for a year, regardless of whether he worked or not? Strange language coming from a lawyer and a former Judge. Why is the Judge hiding behind his lawyer, who just happens to be where the judge has an office? Is the Judge using his office for the financial gain of his friend/landlord or whatever their association? Is there not an ethics law that addresses using ones position for the benefit of friends, relatives, etc? If a public official does not have anything to hide, they don't mind being questioned and providing necessary documents for the public to see. Most citizens are very intelligent and can make decisions once presented the facts...It is obvious that something is amiss. Several weeks back, Judge Fielding indicated to me and others that he intends to run for Senate next year against Jim Preuitt.. I thought at the time that would be great and shared with the Judge, that he would win....now I don't know...As the late former Governor Wallace use to say, there a'int a dimes worth a difference between the Democrats and Republicans....it appears to me that this could apply to the Judge and the Senator...Just my opinion .... DIG KATHERINE, DIG. My name is still Larry Barton.

Re: Daily Home - King criticizes practices of Sims, Dobson and Haynes

Looks like there may be more than one crook in the judicial system....Former Judge Fielding has been making the news, and now this.. Judge Julian King is to be commended for taking a stand and exposing corruption in high places.....long overdue. Through the years, Talladega has had many politicians (sherrif's, judges, mayors, senators, county commissioners, council members, water board members,) who were charged with crimes.....Whether they were actually guilty or not, a jury and or a judge found them guilty and they served time. or were removed from office. Looks like there may be more good ole boys added to the list soon. I appreciate Chris Norwood and the other DH investigative reporters pulling back the covers and digging up the dirt (corruption). A special thanks to the powers that be at the Daily Home who is backing the reporters...Even though it is negative news, it lets folks know there is still those in office who will come after folks in high places when they break the law. There are still more investigation needed into the various city/county officials in Talladega County. Do you ever wonder how some of these elected officials get elected and don't have a dime to their name, but in short time, they are buying houses, land, and making big investments and wind up wealthy...If the reporters continue their investigation, and visit the court house records room , they might just find out the truth. Please don't let up reporters... These officials may be able to fool the voters, but THEY CAN'T FOOL AN EX-CON.....I am still Larry Barton.

Re: Daily Home - King criticizes practices of Sims, Dobson and Haynes

Thanks Richard. I agree that a reporter, writer or whatever
name tag they use, when writing a story about an individual, all sides should
be given an opportunity to respond. I did talk with Chris Norwood about the
King article, and he shared with me that he was unable to reach Dobson &
Haynes...left a msg and they did not or had not called him by press time...I
don't know. I do know that as I read the various articles in different
papers around the state, many times the writer will say that certain
individuals were not available for comment or did not return calls. In many cases,
politicians ignore the news media unless it is a favorable story. While I
served as mayor, I would always talk with the media, regardless of whether
the news was favorable on unfavorable about/against me. When I was in
court, Paulette Miller with Channel 40 at that time, asked if I would talk
with the media once the trial was concluded if I was found guilty. I shared
with paulette that I had always been accessible to the media and I would
respond...When the jury found me guilty, and I was released on bond, my wife
and I went to where all the media was waiting and did an interview. I
personally have a problem with politicians who play hide and seek...they hide
when the news is bad against them and seek the reporters when the news is
good....this is not fair to the citizens who pay the bills. I guess the bottom line is why would Commissioner Tony Haynes, Senator Preuitt and Rep. Hurst continue to block an economic boom that would benefit the entire county/state? Is it possible someone has placed a suitcase full of money on the front porch of one of more of these elected officials? The Daily Home has printed several stories about the proposal about Brecon acreage, but I don't believe the citizens of Talladega County really realize the tremendous impact that this 2800+ acres, developed, will have on the entire state. I know first hand what is proposed for this acreage, using private funds, grants and numerous business people waiting to invest. I, too, hope the Governor will veto this bill and the county commissioners will obey the lawful order to transfer the land to Lincoln...One positive thing for sure is there will be an election next year and Commissioner Tony Haynes, Sen. Preuitt and Rep. Haynes will have to face the voters.....and by the way folks, in case you have forgotten, Lincoln and the surrounding area citizens are registered voters and I don't think they will forget how you have snubbed them....In case some don't know who lhb1 is, try Larry Barton.

Re: Daily Home - Fannin appointed district judge

This is another great day for Talladega County....not only that Jeb Fannin has been appointed to the unexpired term of Judge George Sims, but that the Governor did not listen to Senator Jim Preuitt and appoint Jake Montgomery.
