I smiled while reading the AOL discs and Microsoft comment. I completely agree that we need this moment... feels like mobile platforms will bring it forward. Or, social platforms (e.g. TikTok). Feels like large reach platforms have easiest path to distribution.

Re: Grinding

Completely agree. You've been an inspiration to my career and the way you treat this blog has had a profound impact on how I go-to-market. I love how you test your hypothesis naked and in the open, something that I've adopted , and inspired by you. You are a true stand up gentleman and are an inspiration to many of us. Keep doing what you do. You have a loyal following much larger than you know.

Re: Paris

Paris is a beautiful and rich city in many ways. I've experienced those Labor Laws before in a previous life and they do make it hard to quickly scale up or down but the protection for the citizens is incredible. One of the issues I'm having lately is around email and phone call trust. Spoofing and phishing are done at such a high quality these days that I am loosing trust with my incoming emails from my banks and other institutions of similar importance. I received a phone call from my bank recently and refused to have the conversation because I couldn't verify that they were my actual bank. This is an issue.

Re: Why Tesla can leapfrog rivals without spending big on advertising - Digiday

The amazing part of Tesla too is it's community. They came with headphones and all sorts of dictation restrictions/needs. Isn't it amazing at how much simpler it's become? Instead of $499 software packages, it's now native to your device. I'd imagine it still can improve, but at least it's huge leaps over yesteryears.

Re: Celebrities in Connected Networks - The Gong Show

Good post Andrew. I'm going to come at this from the vector of influencer/celebrity from an advertising or marketing POV. At my previous agency, we were working on the launch of a certain electric vehicle about 2-3 years ago. In order to do this, we wanted to do a campaign that didn't use "paid advertising" but rather influence and celebrity to raise awareness for the new line of car launch (from a very well established auto brand).

When we did all of our social media runs to see who was most influential across electric vehicles or the future of mobility, it wasn't the "mass celebrities" that most people would recognize or assume.... but it was academics, niche bloggers, and other "network" driven celebrities that certainly had a name within their community.

.... and we worked with those leaders and launched the car... and did phenomenal. If we had relied on pure big-name celebs, I don't know definitively, but I have to assume that it would not have worked as well - or even good at all.

I think there is something truly valuable in "network" based celebrities. Federated Media started out this way, repping blogs + bloggers and getting them involved with brands for their audiences. There has to be much more opportunity here.

Re: Are You a Mozillian?

Noted.
