Purely charging from fast chargers (like on a road trip for example) will be more expensive at ~60c/kwh than petrol at $1.70-$2/L.

Overall the EV will be cheaper thanks to charging at home and cheap/free AC charging, but if you make heavy use of DC charging, those savings will be eroded.

Re: Spec comparison: Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs Tesla Model 3

I've had both a US made and Chinese made Model 3 and I can absolutely say the Chinese unit is way better built. Not to say Tesla has nailed quality control (I've seen some howlers on Facebook come out of China), but the rate of duds is certainly lower.

But also, Hyundai is wayyyy more proficient at building vehicles, particularly at scale. I'd have way more faith in Hyundai delivering me a problem free vehicle than Tesla, despite Tesla's improvements of late.

Re: Spec comparison: Hyundai Ioniq 5 vs Tesla Model 3

I agree with that - the Ioniq 5 looks fantastic.

Re: GOP senator on Trump pardons: "This is rotten to the core."

 fJddpz.Org

Re: Peer pressure could be the key for electric vehicles to succeed in Australia

Is the thesis available to read online? There's now an environmental clause in the regulations that will allow cars with low emissions to be added to the SEVS register, regardless of age. The only condition is that they aren't already on sale in Australia (e.g: you can't import a Hyundai Kona EV or a Prius from overseas as they are sold here, but a Prius Prime/Plug-in can be imported, as can a VW e-Golf).

Might not do much to bring the price of low emissions vehicles in Australia down, but it will certainly increase the variety of models available to purchase. If the manufacturer doesn't make them available in Australia it'll result in imported models where they get no profit at all, so hopefully that's enough of an incentive for an increase in the range of PHEVs & EVs locally.

Re: Queensland’s most popular EV charging locations revealed – and they’re free

Would be great to get stats on how long each charge was for and how much power was consumed per charge.

Re: Using diesel to charge EVs in the outback is greener than you think

Wouldn't moving the roadhouse's electricity to solar & batteries be a solid investment compared to using diesel generators? Money would be better spent setting up a business and sales force to convert these roadhouses to solar & batteries via finance from the CEFC or similar green loans.
That Veefil charger is around $30k-$50k isn't it? A diesel generator to output enough electricity would be around the $20k mark too? $80k-$100k gets you a lot of panels and batteries.

Re: Electric vehicles: What is available and at what price in Australia

You're correct and to take it even further, only 10 are battery electric and zero emissions: LEAF, Kona, Ioniq, I-PACE, Model X, Model S, Model 3, Zoe, Kangoo, i3.

Re: Nissan Leaf’s added range, vehicle to grid technology earns first Aussie award

100% correct Dennis.
