Hey Eric,

Completely agree. I'm very thankful that I found fly fishing years ago. It's helped me get through many of life's challenges. It's the one thing I can do that I can just focus in on something and yet not really have to think about anything. I can just be in the here and now and enjoy the simple beautiful things around me.

I've always been a solitary angler, like you years back. I've followed your blog for a while now and have seen you evolve into a more social fisherman. I don't think I'll ever be the kind of person that when the fishing urge hits, I start tweeting or txting for partners, but I think I could enjoy some company now and then.

So, yes, let's hit one of the streams around here soon. I have a pretty regular M-F 9-6 schedule but should be able to leave work a little early sometime or take off a day. Let me know when you can and I'll see if I can clear out some meetings for the day.

Thanks for the comment. I'm dying for more online fly fishing videos. I too was disappointed that Netflix streaming has literally zero fly fishing movies unless you count "the movie."

I'll post a link to some of the interesting YouTube channels I have found soon. I have another development venture that I've just started related to fly fishing video that I'll post details about a bit later after I make more progress. I have a few too many projects going right now but I guess that's good.

I enjoy your blog posts too. You have a real talent for design and storytelling. Keep it up. You make fishing in Texas much more enjoyable.

Thanks for stopping by the blog.

Definitely have nothing against guides. I'm very happy that the Guadalupe can support guiding businesses.

I think I started off a little negative because I met another grtu member walking up the trail and he was saying that he finally left because the guides stayed floating around the good spots. When I got down there, I just waded past them and kept going. No problem. I'll take your advice next time and say hi. I usually just try to stay out of the way and not bother them.

Anyway, if you see a silver Saab 9-3 in the parking lot, it's probably me. Would love to meet in person.

Thanks DF. Plan is to turn it into a resource for people just starting to or wanting to start fly fishing. I've learned a lot in the years since I started fly fishing and hope to start the obsession in others.

I was following that. Sounds like you are getting a lot more fishing in than I did. You are there in much better conditions than I was as the runoff problem should be over by now and the fishing in top form. I really love all the fishing opps in CO. Everywhere you turn there are streams or lakes to fish.

Thanks! I actually bought a nice Canon Rebel SDLR camera to use for my fly fishing trips and general landscape photography, but it's bulky so still doesn't solve the issue with doing all parts of the fly fishing photography process. Your suggestion looks really excellent (hint to wife - birthday coming up). I've been looking for a good waterproof camera and the price looks right. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks! I'll investigate Horrocks Ibbotson rods. I haven't seen any Horrocks Ibbotson rods in the length I have as someone else told me it was likely a salmon rod. I'll keep checking though. Thanks for the lead.

I'll definitely go back to the Rio Penasco, but no more attempts at fishing other Sacramento Mountain rivers for me.

That's a Texas Cichlid or a Rio Grande Perch. It's native to southern Texas and is the northern-most Cichlid. Turns out that it is a pretty common aquarium fish. It's pretty cool to catch one. That one in the picture was the first one I've caught.

It's awful. Fly tying is a good alternative that I need to start back up but I don't enjoy tying warm water flies as much as cold water. Think I need to take a trip soon.

No, not common to dry up every summer. We've had a horrible summer with no rain and I think 70 or 80 days over 100 degrees F. It happens periodically but this summer is much worse than normal.
